Great video, I just got my copy of the book at the end at it's great so far. Definitely makes this video even more helpful. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hola, turning 40 in Feb and same boat as well 🎉. Maybe it's a good thing as it gives us the capacity & need to look within and self improvement. Peace be upon all of you 🙏
I think the best thing about journaling is that it allows you to be completely open about everything. Looking at yourself and life with an unfiltered view is really important to ensure success.
Although I’m not a person who is doing journalling regularly, I find this lecture really interesting. I particularly like the idea about the best case scenario and worst case scenario. If we have an idea about the worst possible outcome nothing can hurt us. The dichotomy of control is a really good concept!
Crazy how the universe works. I just started journaling 3 days ago. This morning I was searching for videos on Marcus Aurelius and this is the first video I come across. Thank you. Instant new subscriber
I have been journaling on and off for 10 years. Then after a horrible breakup, my mind was so blinded on my ex that it started to blame me for the breakup. Reviewing my notes on my journal reminded why. It was a good idea to end the relationship. It was a very bad relationship and the daily journals I have kept showed me the way. It was instrumental for my recovery. I highly recommend you to start journaling now. (I use day one)
My Project is all about telling the story of the building of the "Original Transcon-RR", and having issues concerning collating data into bullet-points I can refer to as I speak to my audience. Concentration in-face of "overwhelming" information overload is daunting, and quitting before results' obtained, is spirit-damaging. This video helps me to open up my journal writing to better usefulness as a sharpened tool to overcome this deficiency. Thanks. PS...I am ordering the Journal.
Hi would you like to make a video on 'The Bhagavad Gita.' The translation of Ranchor prime is really good and reliable. Would really like if you could make a video on this timeless classic's philosophy. And really thank you for your videos😁
I will suggest you do that my dear. It will help others definitely but doing that will transform your life. Come on. Have the courage. The world needs your contribution.
Stoicism: How to Use Stoic Philosophy to Find Inner Peace and Happiness by Jason Hemlock is a good one. He also recommended a journal at the end which I'm going to check out.
There are some fundamental problems with stoic advice when it comes to determining what you have control over, what you do not have control over, and what to choose to be your goals. It would be easy if these things would be easy to determine. But why many people have difficulty in life is exactly because of the great degree of uncertainty as to what they do or do not have control over. Add to that another question. What if you have made false conclusions as to what you have and have not control over? This can lead to disastrous results whichever you get. False positive, or false negative conclusion. Additionally if you take stoicism to its logical extreme then you technically do not have any control over even yourself since you do not know whether you are correct or not. Simply making a decision what actions to perform should technically be impossible due to inability of knowing the results. So, stoicism largely depends on pretending to know that you have can actually determine what actions to make. You still need to know what the ultimate end goal of life is. Stoicism doesn't help one determine it.
Murphy’s law seems to fit too. People who only think positive thoughts & visualization, go bat turd nuts, when real life doesn’t go as visionalized (fantasy).
The law of attraction is honestly just pseudoscience. I wouldn't rely on it to achieve anything, but the idea of looking at the bright side can be helpful in maintaining a healthy outlook in life. But negative visualization is also important because there's always the possibility of failure and I think that looking at the negativity in life allows you to maintain a holistic and objective view of the world.
@Astha G...I got what he was talking about. The idea is to visualize the worst, realize you will survive, and move on to the next right activity. An excersize in positive and negative visualization, one after the other, IMHO. Hope this helps. Thanks.
Before taking this advice from a Roman Emperor people should remember that he was still an Emperor. I wonder whether he thought about whether any of Rome's thousands of slaves should have a journal.
Can you talk about Apuluis the numidian who wrote the first book the golden Ass and Quintus lollius urbicus he is numidian who was born in Cirta and led Rome one day please 🙏
I want to contribute to the knowledge of society. But in this day and age doing that can cause a MOB to appear at your home to shout you down (or worse). Besides, with today's social media - THEY control what can be on the conversation. SAD...
For the most part, yes. You can’t control your genes, you can’t control the various germs around you, you can’t prevent accidents etc All one can do is try to eat healthy (if they can afford it), keep at a good weight and exercise - this is all good and helpful but will definitely not prevent most diseases. When it comes to wealth, people tend to stay in the same social class they were born into, even in democratic, capitalist countries. The ones who drastically move from one social class to another are rarer than you think. You don’t have a lot of control over your wealth and generally if you were born in a poor family you will continue to get poorer as resources become more and more scarce, and the rich will only be getting richer even if they don’t do anything because they have passive income that swells up every second.
@@TheLastProzacNation Couldn't be farther from the truth. Science has proven the majority of diseases and deaths that happen are 100% preventable through proper diet and lifestyle changes. This isn't up for debate anymore.
There are many factors that not depend absolutely of you in being healthy and wealthy. Those factors are outside your control. What is in your control is your diet, exercise, work, etc, etc. Then you focus in the things that you can do (save money and invest) and not the outcome (be wealthy) That's what I interpret at least. You can check out the idea of tricotomy of control from William Irvine. He explain it better for sure Saludos desde Argentina

Good luck to you, and remember when you call off the wagon, pick yourself up and continue celebrating like a human

Exactly this is huge
Journaling is very helpful for getting into the flow state. I appreciate the stoics for their contemplative nature
Definitely! ITs the last part of my morning routine before working in a flow state
👍You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this and you will find strength

Since age 15, I have done written, audio and video journaling, and I am now in my 81st year.

The habits we pursue have so many different effects, that it makes sense to track a whole array of different things!

The Obstacle is the Way - Ryan Holiday

Daily Stoic/Ryan Holiday has a good recommendation list

Wish you did a fact sheet with this xx

For me, it's a 'brain dump'. Very helpful!
Negative visualization is against the rule of law of attraction...
I'm not getting it how both can work at the same time ??
The law of attraction is honestly just pseudoscience. I wouldn't rely on it to achieve anything, but the idea of looking at the bright side can be helpful in maintaining a healthy outlook in life.
