Great question! Most American insurance policies, will not cover you in Mexico. Medicare is not covered here unless you are on a short vacation they may cover some things. You can get insurance in Mexico through private hospitals but there is a 2 year wait period and they usually don't take pre-existing conditions of any kind. If you are planning on moving to Mexico it's good to get that figured out first. It's usually less expensive than US insurance, but it's not necessarily "cheap". Once you have your temporary or permanent residency in Mexico you can use their national health care system and there are private hospitals that are very affordable. Phil ended up with DVT this month and his treatments, ultra sound and appointment with a cardiologist were less than $700. He received excellent care, and his dr speaks English. This was at a private hospital in our town. If you were to do this on Medicare you would have to pay the first $1600 per incidence anyway. Google Mexican health care for Expats and you will find lots of info. We do not have insurance because Phil had a pre-existing condition.
@@thewellnessworkshop1 Thanks. Over 65 it becomes extra complicated. But the hospitals that have their own discount plans in many cities make it much easier to pay cash. I suppose a resident does well enough with the public system for routine problems, and the discount and cash arrangements can deal with the rest. It's so atrocious the way things operate in the US and Canada. In Canada the struggle is because of waiting time and they Don't allow private care.....
Thanks for the video, great information. My car was stolen from San Clemente CA, I tracked it on GPS to ROSARITO! Went there and worked with local police and got it back, $300 paid to them for the help. CHP told me the police there are some of the most corrupt in all of Mexico which says a lot. But keep your nose clean and you'll find it is a great place to visit or even live.
Hi There... yes it did, although it wasn't meant to sound snobby. But hey, we were looking through the eyes of the culture we grew up in, "American Dream." You'll be happy to know that today we live in a Mexican neighborhood on the southern Pacific coast of Mexico. We have been here for a year and we love it!
@@thewellnessworkshop1 I have a lot of respect for you in how you replied back to me. Not many people own up to things they say, even if it wasn’t intended in a bad way. Kudos to you for being self aware and also congrats on the location. I hope you’re enjoying it there. :-)
Good question! I believe it si based on your country of residence. If you only have a tourist visa in MX then your residence would be in US. If you live half and half I'm not sure. Let us know what you find out!
Thank you sir! We are doing our best! Our age and our budget encourages us to be wise :0) We are enjoying the process. Feel free to add any of your wisdom having lived there for so long!
The wife and I moved from Knoxville, Tn three years ago to south Florida. After 3 years here in south Florida, the people here are nasty for the most part and plain mean. We are looking to sell our home here and move to Rosarito and rent for a year, and eventually purchase a home. Can't wait!
@Be Respectful sorry, I just saw this for some reason. Yes, they were just like a gated apartment community in the US. Washers and dryers were outside on a patio, which I thought was weird but now, living in southern Mexico, I get it...all laundry facilities here are outside.
Hi There, thanks for asking! When we lived in the US and only had our bicycles, we did go to Costco on our bikes a few times...especially when Toilet Paper came in...we filled our saddle bags with TP and bungeed the rest on the back. We were quite a sight but we only had to go a short distance, less than 2 miles :0) we lived in Nashville, TN then. We were virtually a mile from everything we needed. Now we live in Huatulco, Mexico...you can learn more about our adventure of an affordable and fulfilling retirement here at www.retireon2k.com Are you looking to relocate to Mexico?
My SS check every month Is $1750 USD is that enough to live on in Rosarita I just want a nice safe, 1 bedroom furnihed, aircon, good wifi, safe, location to walk to restaurants etc Thank you in advance
i'm thinking about retiring to somewhere in baja. i don't think I would ever buy. I'm noticing homes that have been on the market for years and years. i think i'd rather have the option of being mobile, and rents are more than reasonable in many places.
Retire on 2k Exploring Our Options that’s so exciting!! I’ve been considering Rosarito, Ensenada. My family lives in San Diego so i like the idea of being close to them. But I’ve also considered Ajijic
Rosarito is a fine Town been going there for over 40 years .What are American standards .Many Americans complain about not having granite counter tops stainless steel appliances dishwasher etc.The weather in Rosarito is pretty much the same as it is in San Diego .As far as location goes it all depends on what you are looking for. There are many beautiful places and cheaper places deep down in Mexico .Correct Rosarito is not bike friendly .Since you don't want a car I would recommend you buy a scooter type bike . Have you seen some of the Jerry Brown Travels and retire in Mexico Now Fred and Cindy you tube videos they show many beautiful homes for rent or sale and cheap.
My husband are on the same page with you two. Want to move this spring and GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!
This is so awesome!
What about health insurance plans? Especially over 65?

@@thewellnessworkshop1 But maybe it's even easier in Panama and the Dominican Republic. Plan B or C.
@@thewellnessworkshop1 People might feel more comfortable in Rosarito or Tijuana with Medicare across the border ....
@@dovygoodguy1296 Yes I know some who do that, it's just difficult to get across the border at times.

Yes that’s plenty .. I don’t know based on experience, I’m basing it on so many apartments to rent for $500 USD
you could raise a family with that money depending on the place
Lower class?, think lower income is the better term.
