I think it'll be pretty apparent what the script is going to be about. It is one of my favorite PF songs for sure especially with the lyrical commentary on war.
Law of coincidences. SOMEONE had to have the song stuck in their on the day...those that did are likely going to feel like it was more than a coincidence.
'Money' is my favourite part of The Dark Side of the Moon, though I always found it kind of ironic that a song denouncing money made so much of it. There are certainly some people out there who could do with watching this video.
I’d like to know why it’s called Dark Side of the Moon. Im guessing it’s because we speak so little of what we don’t see. We see and talk about about the moon and all the goods in life; but we don’t mention the dark side of the moon, or the dark side of life. By far, favorite music album.
@@marcsullivan7987 Of course everyone is free to interpret anything any way they like, but when that interpretation goes against the author's stated intention, it makes these people no better than these narcissistic "philosophers" who think that art only exists for them to "deconstruct".
This project is the best I've ever seen! Spectacular! The problem is that I'm from Argentina and fortunately I speak English, but I know a lot of people who would love to see this but can't easily translate it into their head, you should put subtitles in Spanish so that the entire Spanish-speaking audience can see it!
My first reaction when I saw the video in the "bell"-feed: "Aaaaaaahhh!!!". Because I was so excited like for every video of this series. Keep up this great work!
Man, I've been watching your videos for ages, and was always happy with them... but now you really seem to have stepped out beyond the more straightforward notes about each topic, and you're expanding on more background material, providing more interpretation, and going in hard on clear ties to wider politics and society. Credit where its due, you've really gone up a notch!
"Money" "Us and Them" Dialectical tension. Guitarist pedantry: Gilmour used a Binson Echorec, not reverb. That's an old magnetic drum delay unit. It's better than reverb. The first solo is double-tracked - not ADT, he did it manually (ie: two takes of the same solo). He doesn't use reverb FX in his live rig. There's probably some room 'verb mixed in with the DSOTM take. Gilmourish and Kit Rae are the best resources for Gilmour-heads
Those blends of Fuzz Face, Colorsound Boost, Univibe, with the Echorec, is just a beautiful sound. The Echorec will Sound like there’s reverb too, although they may have put some in post, but he also used a weird processor for the tremolo effect, and a synth processor as well. He really knew how to get the most out of his gear. *Shout out to Gilmourish! He’s definitely the go to for those sounds and gear.
@Toxic Potato I'm hopelessly biased so it's not like I'm saying it is objectively better (except, of course, it is :D ). The thing about Echorecs, Echoplexes, all those old drum, tape, oil-can delays (and so on...I think I got al the heavy-hitters...Roland Space Echo has reverb as well I think) is that once you've dialed in a few tones the Reverb pedal tends to sit on the shelf. A good analog delay can achieve a similar result, but with actual tape delays, if the tape is clean it's remarkably Hi-Fi. That's why Davey G. went digital with his MXR rack units in the late 70s- to get that clean tape Hi-Fi thing without the hassle of using real tape. I'm not an expert. Bjorn at GIlmourish has all the gravy on DG's gear. Kit Rae for BIG MUUUUFF (that came later)
I will never forget the time in last July were me and my dad we’re flying first class to Las Vegas to see Aerosmith live as a bday present. When the flight attendants came out with my dinner which was this assortment of cheese, salami, crackers, hummus, etc, I put in my earbuds and played Money while I was eating to jokingly get that greedy bastard feeling.
It's an incredible work you did, not only with the analysis and audio cut wich is the heart of a work on Dark Side, but with the graphic design too, you surpassed yourself on this project
Brilliant as always! I'm unemployed right now but as soon as I have some more money I'll gladly support your work. Amazing analysis, thoughtful explorations of all the themes present in the album, and deep examination of the music and sound employed. My biggest thanks and congratulations, keep it up!!!
One thing is missing though, wich is easliy look past behind Gilmour solo, is Nick drumming on the dry part. After staying on a heavy groovy beat on the wet part with its fair share of pure Mason style fillings, he guiets down, stay on his mark a few bars, then starts building with fillings that quickly becomes the closest thing we have in Pink Floyd studio discography to a drum solo, wich ends with the start of the last part.
The early pink floyd discography has some things that are much closer to a drum solo than this, such as the actual drum solo from the "song" called the grand vizier's garden party
Thanks so much for these videos! Amazing work for my all-time favorite album. Roger Waters' tour a couple of years back, where the band played nearly the entire album, was by far the greatest live music experience I've ever had.
David said somewhere (I forget the source) that they changed to 4/4 for his solo because he didn't want to put the effort into writing a solo in 7/4 but they wouldn't allow Dick Parry the same luxury and I think that's funny, and boy does it add a lot of dynamics to the song.
Money was my high school senior quote. Ive always loathed money and capitalism and I contribute that to the lyrics in this song. Its amazing how a couple lines of poetry can shape how you view society. Thanks to Pink Floyd Ive lived my life away from the control of money. Thanks for this video. The Dark Side of the Moon was my favorite from like 17-20. Real formative years. This series on the album is bringing back a lot of long forgotten memories. Cheers
Great analysis, love your editing and graphic design. I'm looking forward to this series. Hope you also cover other Pink Floyd albums like Animals or Wish you were here.
money is such an odd song for how popular it was. 7/4 time, using real sounds as an instrument. yet the 7/4 doesnt sound unfinished, and the cash machines sound great, and the song overall has an outside of a song about money, and how it is good, but underneath it is about the problems with money.
The sound collage may have been inspired by a similar sound collage which opens the theme to "Are You Being Served?", a British sitcom which had premiered only the prior year.

Envy much?
I will take this video as a graduation gift. Thanks.
After "Dark Side Of The Moon" can you do a series like this on "The Wall"?
Is it not ironic you’re pushing this Nebula thing on a video about “Money”
I love David Gilmour's explanation as to why the song changes time in the middle to 4/4.
"...It was easier to write a [guitar] solo."
"Art that seeks to criticize the engine of the machine is turned into fuel to feed that very engine"
So poetic.
This is a recurring theme for Pink Floyd.
ikr
The original phrase is "The *_LOVE_* of money is the root of all evil..."
That honestly makes much more sense
Polyphonic releases a new video? What a time to be alive.
