Happy 30th anniversary to this game. Also always loved the early 1930s asthetic of this game with black and white sprites that look like rubberhose animation and music that highly resembles late 20s foxtrot.

I originally played this about a year ago on a crappy mobile emulator and it's still in my top 5 games of all time. It just goes to show how good this game is.
I remember beating all of the worlds except the last one on a school Chromebook. I kept mistaking the lava in Wario's castle for water because it was all monochrome!
I'm still impressed how funky they could do a music on a console that is really limited on the sound engine. And it was 4 years before pokemon came out!!
Even until today, I still think that I heared this in some other part..., maybe in a popular song of the time when this game came out. Come on, Overworld themes from the original Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World were created based in popular song of their times..., I have the feeling that this one too.
