I’m personally glad to see Topps doing this. The pricepoint is very fair - all generations can enjoy it, and the checklist is stellar. For the chronic complainers who like to complain about everything in the hobby, I’m sure they’ll focus on the licensing - which is fine because they can go drop $1k on a Panini box with 1 auto.
I do understand the unlicensed perspective. Being someone who came back into collecting in 2022, I literally had NO IDEA Topps wasn't making football or basketball, it blew my mind! I had never even heard of Panini, seriously!!!.I was still looking for Upper Deck baseball cards!!! So safe to say....all is right with the universe.
First time collecting these last couple of years and it makes me sad to see all those years I neglected cards in the early 2000s. I just wasn't a sports fan in those years.
Topps Chronicles. Fun rip for those that want it. Not sure about long term ceiling. It will satisfy the itch for football heads and that's all Topps needs.
love the "Topps Chronicles" comparison lol... however, you forgot to mention Topps Chronicles with Stroud, Young, and Levis autos mixed in! More like Topps Chronicles Hobby on steroids haha :)
I never, and I mean NEVER buy hobby but this one spoke to me and I didn't hesitate! I was all in and was blessed enough to be able to have gotten one when they dropped. I mean, 3 autos with the shot at a Stroud, Young, Levis, etc??? When you can't get that anywhere else (for the most part) and not mention all the parallels, numbered cards refractors etc... again, all in! Panini has been dumping out absolute TRASH this year and to get even close to this caliber of cards at the "Hobby" level, you're looking at $600-1500 only to get garbage vets, mem cards that aren't even player worn (are they even mems at that point?) and all the products with sticker dumps (let's not go down the Panini points rabbit hole)... all at a fraction of the cost? That's what I consider a really nice ceiling at a very low risk investment. And there's a good amount of packs to rip as well .... so the fun factor like you said is there as well. I can't wait for mine to show up in the mail! Enjoy your rip too man!
Thanks for the update NEO. Clearly with this product selling out in 10-minutes means it is not too expensive. Looks like a fun rip, where else can you get a product that has both Chrome and Heritage. That said it is unlicensed so I will probably stay away. Has the feeling of Leaf, which I don't hate, but I will say the Topps brand name makes it essier to sell. Looks like on-card autos, which is a big plus to me. Until next time.....
I think the fact topps has had unlicensed cards before helps a little bit. Its more familiar. Circumstances may be different but still. The history is there.
As a baseball collector, my problem with Panini isn't the unlicensed part but instead the product quality. Prism and Donruss are just boring, plain and simple. And the prices were always close to Topps prices, so what's the point? I don't collect football because I don't like Panini cards (I can't afford the high end stuff of any product), but I may start now that Topps is in the game. A Topps Heritage NFL set would be fantastic, licensed or not.
Remember when people were saying Topps taking NBA and NFL would equal 10x less issues and 10x better prices. Licensed stuff will be sky high just like Panini.
I feel like we're all doing the malik and pickett overreaction with bryce, Richardson and levis. If we're being real cj is probably the only promising qb of the lot.
Don't care about football cards, especially retired players in new products.....however, some of these auto's are interesting. Let's Go Topps/Fanatics!!!
No the hobby will not embrace unlicensed product IMO. It will be short lived because its all hype because its the new shiny toy. A year from now straight trash
I agree pretty much with most of what you're saying, but I feel that Stroud, Young and Levis won't fall into that mindset. Especially Stroud autos... his Topps Composite #'d auto cards will be bullet proof/impervious to the hobby not embracing unlicensed products. When that's pretty much the only game in town for said autos, it's King in it's respective category. Guaranteed rookie Topps Composite Stroud autos will bring in big bucks!
Embraced while new and influencers tell people it's cool. We will see where this stood stands in 10 years. But still a hard pass from me. But getting a "Street Clothes" Ben Simmons card would be pretty accurate.
I damn sure would if it had Stroud, Young and Levis autos in it! Without hesitation. Heck, it'd be the only Panini product that had them so that's a no brainer and an absolute steal! I would absolutely hope people would have the same negative sentiment on it so that there would be so much more for me! lol
I avoid unlicensed like the plague. I will not buy until logos are back. Until then, everything football and basketball from Topps will be an easy pass. In my opinion, releasing unlicensed product hurts the brand. I wish Fanatics had the patience to wait until they have the licenses. My negative opinion of them just gets worse by doing this.
People fawning over this but not Leaf are so hypocritical. Once licensed prices will be pushing panini prices and nothing will have changed but tje manufacturer.
its not hypocritical at all. all that wild card/leaf/pro set trash looks like some dumb shit made by a 12 year old on his computer with crazy waves and purple backgrounds and weird looking uniforms. these are very different. they are legit card brands like topps chrome black in their real unis just with no logos. its a huge step up.
please let me know if you ever find these for $70 and I'll buy every single one of them. And every Stroud auto I pull I'll promise to give you a shout out! lol
@@CliqueBaitsImo, they just won’t hold long term collectability. Will someone buy it? Yes, but that person isn’t me. I would advise you to sell it fast while the interest is there. As soon as the panini license ends in 2025 and topps can put out licensed cards, these will be less sought after. I don’t want to yuck your yum, if you like it, buy it. It’s just shitty that a rc card like stroud is wasted on an unlicensed product for no fault of his own. I love topps and can’t wait for them to reenter the nfl and nba space with licensing.
@@posterbag I definitely agree with what you're saying but I also feel that would apply to most high profile vets not Fanatics bound rookies... as it pertains to players like Stroud, Young, Levis etc... it's their ONLY autos they'll ever have on a more "attractive" and reputable upper-tier brand aka Topps. I think what you're sayin holds more water when referring to say Leaf or Wild Card or low level/quality cards. But Topps, however, they've been around and respected for quite some time and do have a rather decent quality product that those other mentioned brands don't hold a candle to. And therefor, this is just my opinion so take it for whatever it's worth lol, those Stroud Topps RC autos are of the Panini equivalent rookie autos. Now, will they have the same price points as a Prizm Silver Auto or even a Rookie Ticket auto? I definitely don't think so. But I do think they'll have considerable value and will most definitely hold said value long term because, again, it's the only RC auto they'll have and with a solid brand like Topps. You're also right in selling fast as the hype/interest will drive their value up immediately upon release and then go down in value but that is also the case with all licensed cards that Panini prints out as well. If there were other licensed product out there with those rookie's autos on them then yeah, I'd agree with you 100%, but that's just not the case here... unfortunately. I'm sure if I'm thinking that way, other PC collectors will be thinking the same. I guess we'll just have to see. Thanks for the reply!

Topps used to do unlicensed football before. It's not worth anything now, but it is nice to look at.
Are $250 prices gonna be same at local shops likely day of release?
I think the fact topps has had unlicensed cards before helps a little bit. Its more familiar. Circumstances may be different but still. The history is there.
Now they want 399 for em
Gotta love the markup. Basketball was $299 and now sells for just under $600
I ordered this and CJ Stroud Rookie Campaign for $777 months ago. Topps has $1000 of my money interest free, and I have nothing yet.

@@AnthonyDorneyTopps Chrome Jumbo is $400 for 3 autos. That still blows away any value you’d get out of a Panini box of Prizm.

3 autos and the fact you can pull a stoud, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith autos are worth it. $250 is a steal compared to the Panini equivalent
Agree
I guess you never heard of leaf or wild card? Same stuff but cheaper. No license and airbrush.
