June 10, 2016. - we lost a very dear friend, Christina Grimmie. I never could have prepared for the effects this night would have on my life. Being that the tragedy of losing Christina happened at our own show near where I grew up, this was very close to home both literally and figuratively. It took years of strong friendships and rebuilding to feel like a functioning human again, but it is something that will live with me forever. There were many different waves of real depression unlike I had ever known before that night. In times of sadness, my way of healing has always been writing songs. June 14, 2019 - a few days after the 3 year anniversary of losing Christina, I was really struggling at this time and life just didn't make sense. On this day, there's a voice memo I made of a song calling out to God where I asked "If I could only catch a glimpse of you". 6 months later, Dec 16, 2019 - I had a last minute writing session on a rainy Sunday with @connormcdonough, @i_am_castle_, and @idarosemusic. Many times in sessions I will just scroll the titles of my voice memos to see if anything jumps out. This day I saw the voice memo labeled 'Glimpse' and said "I love the word glimpse for something" and an entirely new idea was born. The song 'Glimpse of Us' was created that day. It wasn't until two years later, Joji heard the song and after some changes, the final version was made. June 10, 2022 'Glimpse of Us' was released to the world and went on to become the most successful song of our career as well as our first extremely notable work as songwriters. It wasn't until recently that I remembered what was said in that initial voice memo those years ago. Calling out for some bit of a sign. I now see that what I got back was tenfold to what I could have ever imagined. I write this to say that you never truly know the beauty that is constantly forming from the pain. Our hurt is never wasted. This is why I will forever pour my heart into everything I ever make. Sending only love. Thank you for listening.
i mean they credit who wrote it tho so its not like it matters, ofc it will disappoint some people that they didn't write these songs, but the emotion and expression they give to the song gives life and makes people relate and feel to these songs
@@mzllrr I mean they credit who sang the song so its not like it matters. Without someone writing the lyrics or melodies there would be no singers to give emotion, expression or life in the first place
I remember when Christina Grimmie passed, it was really big news at the time. I saw her in a bunch of song covers on RUclips. I’ve forgotten about the incident since. No shame in it. Tragedy occurs and life moves on. But it’s touching to know that she created beautiful music in life, and that her presence was so great that even her absence can inspire more songs
This really makes me love Joji even more, not only did he release it on the anniversary but just the way he sings it is just too perfect for the background on the song.
There's a video on RUclips of Riley McDonough and his brother, who is a producer of this song, Connor McDonough, joining in with Allie Sherlock to perform this song in a street of Dublin. Check that out. It's a pretty great performance.
I think if Christina knew she played even a small part in this song, she'd be beaming. She was always meant for something big with that voice, and in some small way, she was part of a huge hit and i think that's beautiful.
If you've been in music industry or music related stuffs you know that mostly lyrics are written by other and famous singers or singers with good voice which fits the music performs them, and honestly if joji hadn't picked up glimpse of us then this shit would've been talked less relative to what joji did.
There was a podcast ( i literally forgot the channel) after the demo they gave it to charlie puth and he didn’t worked on it and so they gave it to miller and later charlie said he kinda regretted it. (Correct me if im wrong)
Just search Jon bellion and you will see how many pop hit songs he wrote for other top artists. Music industry is like that, a lot of artist don't write all their songs
I was really hurt to know that joji didn't write the song, I know a lot of songs are not written by the singers but didn't expect that from joi, Don't really blame him though, thats how the industry works. Truth hurts I guess
Jesus saved me in my room when I cried because I dont have friends and I wanted to end it all, I have a big family but I never felt fulfilled nor have peace, it was always a deadend. I gave God a chance but it was him who gave me life and has been there with me all this time. As soon as I confessed Jesus as my lord and believed he died for my sins as a ransom and rose again after 3 days, I ask God to fill me with the holy spirit and he did and I was freed from pain I had all my life, all depression left in an instant, I realized my purposed on earth was to do his will and not mine own, I am fulfilled and loved. I begin to sing for God as that was his gift to me, Ive never accepted it because my voice is low and not pop (I wanted to be liked by others) but God has other plans and I am used for his Kingdom to sing Gospel like Harmonie London etc. I would love to make a Gospel version of this song.
"Joji heard the song and after some changes, the final version was made"... also know as Joji co-wrote on the song. He's credited for doing so on ASCAP under his real name George Miller. This is nothing new, in fact this is how the majority of songs come about. Source: ASCAP and I have friends who attended Belmont University and have written/co-wrote hit songs.
Maybe if you are a shitty song writer. Joji straight up just took an already finished song and changed a few sentences around then put it out on his own. It's a great song, but a little disappointing. And I think by majority you mean majority of pop songs are produced that way. There are still many musicians/artists who do all their own writing.
nowadays everybody says that he is the author of glimpse of us XD This one is true but i've seen dozens of videos on youtube of someone playing glimpse of us on piano and suddenly some random roman comes up to the player and says that he is the author of the song.... and before someone debunks it in comments the video already has million of views... fucking cringe.
if you wrote one of jojis songs, why are you constantly posting fan videos of him and leaking his music? I don't wanna discredit your story, but honestly your entire page gives crazy stalker vibes...
I feel like people like you really don't get the point. This video isn't discrediting Joji at all. Rather it celebrates the fact that it became a huge hit BECAUSE Joji chose to work with them. But amidst all that, the original story was lost, and videos like this are just shining a light onto the original creator. We often just gloss over the titles and never bother to check, and I think sharing the story behind it is really beautiful.

i always knew that joji didn't write that, but the message that Riley gave, I think it gives it much more depth because of the story behind it
The world is gonna lose their mind when they find out how many hit songs were NOT written by the singers 😳🤤
Search “Max Martin” songs and you will see the industry of Pop from another perspective
@@argenispena5306 I've watched that before , it's called the melodic math formula
i mean they credit who wrote it tho so its not like it matters, ofc it will disappoint some people that they didn't write these songs, but the emotion and expression they give to the song gives life and makes people relate and feel to these songs
@@mzllrr I mean they credit who sang the song so its not like it matters. Without someone writing the lyrics or melodies there would be no singers to give emotion, expression or life in the first place
its does seem to be an abnormal concept that a singer would want to just be that and not the composer of thier work.

what a nice story behing the song, im glad my favorite artist joji did a great job singing it
He was credited properly and get royalty share for that song. So nothing to worry about.
that not even what this video was about, did you not read the words?

“You never truly know the beauty that is constantly forming from the pain”
This is such a beautiful yet painful way of framing the essence of hurt.
bro *discovered "songwriters" section on wikipedia*
bro didn't watch the video
It was in the credits for god sake

was originally sent to charlie puth who made the number 1 funeral banger
youtube shorts moment
And Joji deliver the depth of songwriter feeling in that song successfully. Hat tip for both songwriter and the singer 🫡
Joji always lists authors and producers in details on Spotify.
He didn't claim to write that song but good damn he made it popular. Not everybody is Eminem to produce bangers.
True. Nothing beats 'thats an awefully hot coffee pot'
it was kinda obvious anyway, look at the credits on the song
There was a podcast ( i literally forgot the channel) after the demo they gave it to charlie puth and he didn’t worked on it and so they gave it to miller and later charlie said he kinda regretted it. (Correct me if im wrong)
I uploaded that too- ruclips.net/video/DhmL4JYc9xY/видео.html
my friend showed me Christina's cover vids on yt before she was on the voice. I was devastated to learn about her murder.

Well it's not a surprise. It's in the credits.
Sweet that's such a meaningful song and so many people are making a living from it.

Didn't write it, but you sold it :)
I thought it was about an ex
Same
I don't think you wrote this still. let us hear a sample of the song you "supposedly" wrote
dont be such a tool!!
if you wrote one of jojis songs, why are you constantly posting fan videos of him and leaking his music? I don't wanna discredit your story, but honestly your entire page gives crazy stalker vibes...
The story isn't from me?
bro is stupid
😂😂
Absolute donut
fr this whole channel 🤣
