    Washed stone is the absolute worst for a driveway.

    Nice job.
    I do this for a living.
    I compact twice.
    Once after grading and once after the new stone is down.
    It helps over time, and the customer is usually impressed.
    Once again. Nice work.

      What is the best stone to use? What if you’re on a tight budget? How do you even START finding someone to redo a somewhat long driveway? About 600 feet.

  • @mtrx765

    Township should be replacing that silted culvert and doing ditching, that driveway will be back to square 1 in a year or 2 without proper road drainage.

    • @mithgo_outdoor
      @mithgo_outdoor  Год назад +2

      There’s no township in this area to cover such work. It would be up to the homeowner. Projects are budget driven so we did what we could with the allotted budget. You do however have a great point and are right about the proper drainage

    All their original gravel is still there in the ground, on the sides, and under the edge grass just waiting to be resurfaced. Why did you have to bring in more?
    Just resurface, cut edges, and grade all that unearth gravel.

    • @mithgo_outdoor
      @mithgo_outdoor  4 месяца назад +3

      Some can be repaired with existing stone, some can’t. This one needed gravel…clearly, or I wouldn’t have added it. Resurfacing existing stone that’s lower the lawn does nothing but put a bandaid on an open wound. Start posting some of your jobs for people to critique lmao

    Don't use drain Rock for driveways. The worst for driveways and roads.
    Loose Rock like that is the first thing to get washed out to make potholes.
    You need material that compacts well, like base rock or class 2 rock, or even fines which is crushed up concrete and brick.
    Base rock is what they use to build permanent roads with as a base under the asphalt so that it won't move. It's also what they use to build what they call gravel roads which is more than just gravel. It is made with several different types of material that pack together well. There is an actual recipe for it.
    I am a 30+ year Operating Engineer.
    Copies from the internet:
    "What is class 2 base made of?
    20 mm or 3/4 inch Aggregate Base, Class 2, is used in roadways and is an aggregate made of a specific recipe of different sizes and quality of rock inclusive of 20 mm (3⁄4 in) to fine dust. An aggregate is normally made from newly quarried rock, or it is sometimes allowed to be made from recycled asphalt and concrete."

Very frustrating having to spend thousands of dollars on gravel and stone and culvert pipe all the time because either people don't really know what they're doing when they say they can fix or they just see fast $$$$.
