The mastery of a reference!! As a kid you never get it, but as an adult it hits you like a ton of bricks... a good, "OOOOOOHHHHH", notsalgic ton of bricks.
I'll show you what getting hit with a ton of bricks feels like if you need it for reference. May finally teach you the difference been being literal and an expression.
You know what's funny? I remember this sequence vividly from when I was a kid and only recently started checking out Twin Peaks related things with the new series set to premier. Anyway, I stumbled across Cooper's dream sequence and instantly knew that's where The Simpsons got this from.
I'm disappointed that there's no comments talking about Alf Clausen's fantastic parody of the Twin Peaks soundtrack! Like always, Alf delivers nothing shy of fantastic work.
As someone who finished all of twin peaks recently I appreciate more of this show for being faithful to the source material. Like even the shadow in the background is accurate.
I finally understood it! it's a shame not to understand this kind of jokes until you understand the language. I wonder how many jokes did I miss for watching the translated versions...
ahhh, his hair!!! I always knew this was from Twin Peaks (must have seen it mentioned somewhere), but I only watched Twin Peaks recently so I never thought anything of that specific bit...
I watched Simpsons as a little kid with my brother not understanding the references. Its fun to watch now that I've caught up on 20 years of pop culture references
+Vitalidze if you saw the original episode from Twin Peaks Special Agent Dale Cooper falls asleep. has a really weird dream (this was an exact take on it) and wakes up with that kind of hair.
00:52 Look at the attention to detail in this scene; they even have that shadow (was it supposed to be a bird) 'flying' behind the red curtain just like during the first appearance of Cooper and the dancing dwarf in the red room in the original Twin Peaks (Cooper's dream sequence in Season 1).
Yeardley Smith was recorded saying the normal lines, then they had them reversed, then they had her recite the backwards speech so they could reverse it again for the performance.
I remember seeing this segment when I was younger. And the way she talked or she said burns’ suit while holding the card really freaked me out when I was younger. I never understood what she was really saying when her voice was slurred like that. It kind of creeped me out.😬 Edit: I also always thought she said, “Burn the suit!” 2nd edit: I should also say that I’ve never sat down and watched The Simpsons. This just happened to be on 📺 once and I saw it.
Watching this as a child with absolutely no knowledge of Twin Peaks whatsoever, I wish I could remember what I thought 🤣 but I suppose kids are quite good at accepting whatever apparent randomness they're presented with!
People always say ____ ripped off the simpsons but the simpsons legit in 15 mins of a 20 min show of other movie and tv references reworked for their episodes
In the dream sequences from Twin Peaks, they had the actors read their lines backwards and play it in reverse, so it was a sort of eerie imitation of normal (forwards) speech. I don't know if they did that same technique for this, or just an imitation of it.
it took me 20 years to finally watch twin peaks and understand this reference

Regardless of the Twin Peaks reference, the whole "This suit burns better" thing is quite clever.
