I’ve been watching RUclips for 5 years and I have to tell you, this was one of the best put together informative videos I’ve seen. Congratulations and I’m going to watch the rest of your content now. Congratulations on an excellent presentation 🎉
This is my first year to grow turmeric. I searched for how to store it and your channel came up. I live in south Mississippi in zone 8b. Im amazed at how many tropical herbs and plants we can grow here. I’m so happy I found you! I look forward to binging your past videos❤️
I harvested my first turmeric n ginger today. And I decided to watch a video after the fact. I'm glad that I didn't compost the root balls yet. Thanks for the tip. 👩🏽🌾
Just harvested my first year of turmeric. Since I live in Alabama as well, I’m going to replant the root balls and see if they come up in the spring. Thank you for the information and you also gained a subscriber.
Grew my first turmeric this year way up in Cape Breton, Canada - in a greenhouse along with my peppers - and am delighted with the results. Thanks for the info. I didn’t know that I can replant the root ball. We like to make a ginger garlic turmeric paste and freeze them in ice cube trays for use in Indian dishes. Thanks again!
loved your video. my first year growing turmeric in pots (bought it at Publix from the organic produce section). Now I will replant like you did and will always have it. I use it on almost everything I cook, even the food I cook for my dog. Can't wait to harvest. Thank you for the info and tips
Thank you for this video . I also am in Alabama and this was my first year growing Tumeric I can’t wait to harvest . Iam a studying herbalist so I will be drying them out and storing in my apothecary cabinet
i live in southeast asia and i planted a piece september last year. i harvested earlier today, 2 big bunches. amazing how a single piece produced a lot
First of all WOW! What an excellent video. I too have subscribed to your channel. I do have a couple of questions. 1 where can I purchase turmeric, I have called all the grocery stores around me. 2. What is the brand of boot you have on in this video. Thank you so much for all the thorough information.
I have grown ginger two years in a row in window box containers and had successful harvests. I have tried to grow turmeric 3 times and have not had any success. I'm searching RUclips now in order to see what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks for this informative video. I'm in Zone 9B in the Houston area. It's October now and I am planting again tomorrow. I'll take a bite of yours if only I can.😊
I'm also in Houston and have grown turmeric in the ground for a few years. A very lazy gardener, I'm a bit late getting ready to harvest now on Feb 1 and will re-plant the mothers (with the big roots) as well as some rhizomes soon.
Great vid! The only additional info is store roots in peat moss in the entry. I live in zone 6b. Harvest in October and replant in May. The stored ginger didn't sprout until July and is still quite firm.
You have the best video about turmeric ❤ I have watched several others. I have some growing and I wanted to find out when I should harvest it. Thanks for sharing 😊
I want to try ginger soon as well! Thank you for sharing about your spiritual practice! I love the color as well! It makes my smoothies and juices really vibrant. What is your favorite way to store it?
Hi 👋...nice vid...been growing tumeric in our green house for a few years now..have tried various ways of harvesting, replanting and storing. Wanted to add a comment on storage...for me, the crisper works really nice as long as can get good air circulation as I like to use fresh as long as possible, so I use the plastic, net like bags like lemons, etc come in. In the beginning as learning I did the sand storage which I was not happy with as it caused my beautiful roots to swivel up. If mine start to look compromised in the crisper, I just dehydrate. We call those little crowns 'mothers' 😊 Maggie/WV
Thank you so much for I've been searching for just this video on how to grow and take care of turmeric and ginger. Your instructions are spot on and I'm now a subscriber of your gardening family. This is my first year growing turmeric and ginger. I have them growing successfully in containers here in zone 8a and I needed to know my next steps in harvesting, preserving and replanting. You answered all of my questions. Thanks and I'll see you in the garden 🤗
This is one of the best video, thank for this info. I am planning to plant this in me garden with gingembre. I am in zone 5a Mirabel north of Montréal.this will be m’y first expérience with these two plants. I Hope for the best. Thank you again for these fortunate info. Robert.
Thanks for an informative look at tumeric. I have planted it for the first time this spring in New Zealand (under pea straw as it gets quite dry here over summer). I'm hoping for a crop so at least I can continue growing on. Zone 10 where I live, so we're warm and wet. I'm hoping they don't rot! But I can grow ginger, so I'm hopeful.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I’m really interested to know how it grows for you in your area! My instinct tells me that it should do really well in a warmer, wet climate. It’s very tropical. I want to grow ginger for the first time this year. I still have to find a source for ginger rhizomes. Do you order yours online or get it local?
Enjoyed the video - I would say you had quite a harvest. When storing in the frig, what part and did you put it in anything like a bag or just in the crisper ? I got my start with ginger at the local health food store - everything there is organic so no problem (hopefully) with pesticides.
Thank you so much, Margie! I store it in the bottom drawer of the fridge in a produce bag, but you may not even need a bag. I can’t wait to try growing ginger this season!
Question... I just harvested mine. When I. It into them, they aren't that orange. Wondering why... Did I hear est too early? Some of the older rough woody looking stems were deeper orange...
Clean them completely outside. Why bring the dirt into the house ? Why put the dirt down your sink drain ? Why waste that water down the drain when you could clean it outside & let the water go back into the soil ? Yep store it in sand 😊

I am going to raise some ginger and turmeric in pots. It is sacred to Lord Ganesha so I use it as an offerings. I love the color of it!
