@@ronnieboycomics Yes, the Robin is my favorite character and this series was one of my personal favorites. He played a big role in making Robin his own man.

Such a great interview! Wish I could hit like more than once. Chuck Dixon is simply one of the best comic writers ever! I read so much of his work in the 90s. He was practically everywhere for a while. His Nightwing run with Scott McDaniel is one of my favorite runs of all time. And the first Robin mini series one of my favorite minis of all time as well.
Great to see Chuck Dixon on here! The author of so many of my absolute favourite Batman stories. Wes, your channel is one of the best around. I love it.
The thing that really makes no sense about Lady Bane is that why on earth if they’re using cloning, why would they create a female? Why would you not create a male who is going to be stronger.
Great vid Wes!! Seeing Chuck shake his head about the current line is everything. I wonder how he feels about Denny's Knightfall novelization and the backstory he wrote for that in the novel. It was very adult oriented.
This was fantastic! I met Chuck Dixon at a small comic convention in Orlando. Very nice man. He also writes novels. I have a box set of his Levon Cade books I need to read (I've read the first one and enjoyed it a lot).
Wes that vid was awesome always loved Chucks work especially his Batman stuff growing up. Hope you can get Chuck back on as that was really entertaining and insightful to see how one of the legends of the medium feels about modern how modern comics and the creators are now. Dixons long tenure on the bat family is stupidly underrated. The narrative was tight, things actually happened, everybody mattered. One of favorite eras of batman, easily. Really only beaten by denny oneil himself, who's on my Mt Rushmore
We want more Chuck! Also I think having him appear time to time on the this week in Batman to see what there doing in the current line of Batman stories being put out now would make for great content.
Knightfall was the very first Batman story I ever read in comics and Batman 500 was the very first Batman comic I ever purchase. Thank you Chuck you did an amazing job!

Wes, great video. Speaking of CrossGen, I was a big fan of all those titles back in the early 2000's. I think the creators working together in a studio setting really helped the quality of the books.
All your episodes are always great and informative, Wes, but this one is a really, really great one. Chuck is a voice of experience and good sense that the industry is greatly lacking in and needing, and the results we're getting, in my opinion, clearly show it. I'd love to see Chuck as a regular on your channel. I tune in to him weekly, and his treasure trove of knowledge and insight are invaluable and entertaining. He's regularly demonstrating why this medium is so great, even if the current status quo isn't. And, I agree with Tim Lim; 13:40 is a classic moment. If that isn't a clear, though unintended, indictment on the state of creative bankruptcy in the industry -- DC and the Batworld in particular -- I don't know what is. Classic. Classic. Thanks again for a great episode. I hope your wee one, wife, and the other wee ones, as well as yourself, are all healed up and doing well now.
Chuck Dixon has written some of the best comics. The Nightwing and Birds of Prey are both smart and suspense filled books. I met him at Wizard World Chicago during his Nightwing run, really cool guy in person. This was all good to hear, including his talking about Denny and how Denny’s rules and his vision were cornerstones of the culture.
Chuck and Graham did a Joker graphic novel that is one of my all time favourite Batman/Joker stories. His Robin minis made accept and then fall in love with the Tim Drake character and of course he wrote a great Nightwing(A top 3 fav character of mine). Being a big GA and Black Canary fan, I also loved the Birds of Prey and his Green Arrow with his introduction of Connor Hawke.
The man’s a legend. Re-read so many of his books over the shutdown last year and this year. Winter world, airboy, Batman, punisher, so many titles, and they were all fantastic. He doesn’t get enough credit these days. I’d buy Batman again if he was involved.
Chuck's story about the Superman creators wanting to disguise The Man of Steel as Batman for a few months must've been turned into the King of the World storyline where Superman creates multiple Superman robots to patrol the earth when the original pitch was declined.
Awesome interview! Definitely want Chuck back for more, could listen all day! Bane is my favorite villain and top 3 comic characters of all time. If DC ever clean themselves up and get back to work producing good content, I'd love to see some new Bane, or even Vengeance stories from Chuck. I'd also love to see Chuck write Spawn! The main title needs it.
Another great interivew...love Chuck Dixon, grew up on his works and became a solidifed comic reader because of writers like him in the '80s and '90s. After James Tynion IV's over boring and depressing run, i can not think better name for the title...
I remember going to a comic store in 2020 I think, and seeing this new marvel comic (usual 20-30 page size) that costed something like 12 or 20 pounds. I asked the clerk if it was some special/rare issue and he said "no it just costs this much" lmao
I agree that the logical choice is Dick Grayson for the next Batman, however I wonder if his longing for a "normal" life actually makes that entirely unlikely. You gave me something to ponder for some time.
Great to hear from Chuck Dixon, definitely a truth teller for comics! Hilarious to listen to you guys talk about the mess that DC/Justice League has become lately because of gender/race/sexuality swap they have been trying to do.
Boohh, what kind of episode "candel light with Wes" was this; I was expecting you to make some kissing sound effects in celebration of this glorious moment in comic history hehehehehe :). Hey if there are people out there who genuinly enjoyed "The Kiss", than good for them. I asked a gay buddy of mine what he thought about it, but he considers it a hand me down (no pun intended) which only came to pass through conflict. Like most people I know that fall into the catagory of people the woke fundamentalist claim to stand up for, they dont want their knock off but uniquely and newly written/designed carcacters. Props to you for reading it, whether it is or isnt "fun & games" most channels wouldnt do it.
I have read/purchased every Chuck Dixon Batman, Nightwing,,Robin,IDW Gi Joe comic and I miss him. I shake my head at some of the stories written today like the Batman/Joker interaction in the wedding story that you mentioned. That is not Batman. One correction: Batman did not send Damien to rescue Alfred, Robin did that on his own. The result is the same however. We lose the arguably most important Batman family member in a story arc that doesn’t warrant it.
Wrong. Batman did send Damian into Gotham to take out GG [he had a spell that take the powerful meta out] face Thomas, take a fall and be captured so he can gain access to the cave and let the rest of the family in. Batman explains this in issue 77 of Batman City of Bane. Also in issue 83 he explains again in detail everything in his plans and the instructions he gave Damian and how he got a signal from Alfred telling him to go ahead and send Damian in [issue 76 he also tells Catwoman that Alfred has sent him the signal that he was save so he had sent Damian to proceed into Gotham because he felt Thomas wouldn't kill Damian] It was 100% batman's plan and Robin did as instructed but Batman's plan failed. Also batman intentionally allowed Bane to take the city just to smoke out his partner issue 77]. The issue numbers where Batman tells us himself that he sent Damian are provided so you and others can go read them. Thankfully it's made very very very clear in 3 issues that Batman sent Damian in he wasn't acting on his own. He was given very clear instructions and he followed them without deviation. Don't know how anyone who read the story could miss that detail since issue 77 is basically a huge exposition dump and issue 76 had that memorable scene when he tells Selina he has sent Damian in while the two are gazing at a beautiful sunset and later make out.
I didn’t read it that way, but will reread it to to see if I am mistaken. Even though I have read numerous Batman stories repeatedly I didn’t feel City of Bane warranted that so I may have missed it. Either way Alfred deserved better and I feel the comic is poorer for his absence. Even though we constantly hear about Bruce’s trauma about his parents, to me Alfred was the true fatherly influence.
Did that Tim King story actually happen? What's the source for that? Shits wild. I know about the Jae Lee story because that happened pretty publicly since it involved Tom King posted on Twitter but this other story I've never heard. It sucks because I actually like his books. I view them as elseworld stories. I think they would be better if most of them weren't in canon. I think alot of them aren't anyway. It's hard to day what batman or what joker is the correct one. I like when creators have their own takes on it all. I don't know when the line is where you go so far it should be elseworld. It's hard to say. I even read a Vita Ayala story in one of the Desth Metal one shots that I actually liked. Not the best thing ever but not as bad as youf expect from the way they are portrayed online. I think some of these creators are shitty people at times but I try not to let it affect my opinion of the work. Unless it's to the extreme like a Bryan Singer type. Can't watch his films anymore. The stories about Tom King are getting worse and worse though so depending on how true this new story is its going to make it harder to want to buy his stories.
@YellowSpiderman You know what’s funny? Aside from the controversial moment she actually wrote solid Character arcs and deconstruction of Dick as a character
I’ve heard so much about Chuck, but I’ve never read anything by him (I think), I’m only reading *DC* for 10 years & it’s all floppies, I’ve read nearly nothing before that.
It’s funny, Spurrier did a very similar story to Priests both on Justice League, but Spurriers was absolutely terrible. That’s actually the worst JL story that I’ve ever read, my god it was stupid. But I also didn’t like Priests run on Justice League, but I love his Vampirella run.
Chuck Dixon is a competant journeyman, but it is extreme hyperbole to call him "one of the greatest comic writers of all time." As much as I enjoyed his Airboy run, it is categorically ridiculous to place him even in the top 30 writers of all-time. Knightfall was an adequate execution of a gimmicky idea that resulted in some of the most convoluted story arcs in the Batman mythos, and it has not aged well at all. Funny that Chuck calls out Milligan, whose writing is exponentially better across the board -including his Batman. Dixon's tenure benefit heavily from publication at the height of the Burton Batman movie franchise popularity, and pretty much every other Batman book was better -those by the aforementioned Milligan, but also Grant, Morrison, Moench, Mignola, Starlin, Wagner, and Dini. Basically, Dixon's comics were the nadir on the title at the time, and the art direction of Knightfall specifically was an egregious copy of the Image house look -and with all the impossible anatomy of Rob Liefeld. Most of those stories were instantly forgettable except for the ones that were noticeably and comparably bad. I would absolutely disagree that Chuck's writing of Dick Grayson was better than Marv Wolfman's which was the high water mark on the character, but I can understand the inclination to fanboy a bit during an interview, so I'll cut you some slack. I know you don't have much good to say about Tom Taylor, but the first dozen issues of his Nightwing run with Bruno Redondo are the best take on Dick since since Marv and George's Teen Titans. While Tomasi is also more of a journeyman than a great writer, his work is infinitely more memorable than Dixon's and scripted with a degree of panache instead of merely delivering ultra-juvenile fan service. And in that respect I guess if Dixon is noteworthy for any reason it is his lack of sophistication. This explains his vocal disdain for the superior work of Alan Moore, who obviously set the bar impossibly high for a writer of Chuck's limited abilities. It's funny to hear Chuck brag about diversity, since his Punisher Kingdom Gone is one of the grossest examples of poor Asian representation in comics post World War Two. And to correct yet another false Chuck Dixon claim: the origin of the Dick & Babs' romance goes all the way back to Batman Family in the mid 1970s. So he wasn't the guy that, "kicked that off."
Chuck Dixon's reaction to Tom King's Batman plot is priceless!! This man is a treasure.
