That's fantastic!!! I just bought my Merlin yesterday and was immediately baffled by the loss of the C because I almost always sing in G

Interesting. Very cool. Certainly miss C for a lot of songs I play on guitar. Thanks for sharing.

I used an 18-gauge steel wire, held on by two very thin strips of Duck brand duct tape between the strings. Works great for me, without having to drill any holes (I would NOT recommend Gorilla tape, afraid it may stick TOO much). The wire should just be cut long enough for the middle string. May seem silly and not too "professional" (unless you find a tape color to match the wood), but I only did this for the sound, and it does work for me.

He also gives you an F so you could play in the key of C

Smart yet on Fretless Bass Guitars work why won’t this work halfway without a “staple”? Just curious

would you consider having the extra fret there permanently? Would that interfere with the “normal” D-tuning chords?

I've been thinking of buying one of these for some time and your videos have been really helpful so thank you. BTW did you know Seagull have now announced an electric version so that should be an interesting option.

Thanks for watching. Ya I have seen that but for some reason getting these new models in Canada (where they are made) isn't that easy. I'm still waiting for a G Merlin and no one around here carries those yet.

That's crazy. I'm in the UK and the G Merlin is on sale in several stores now but the electro version in on preorder for delivery in April(they say)

Ok so went a bit further with my merlin and had a extra fret put in so could play the c cord but now it doesn't sound right when tuning it to d,a,d not sure if this is due to the new fret any help would be great

The extra fret should not have changed anything. Most likely it comes down to either pressing to hard or not pressing straight down.

    Hey Ryan.
Would it be worth adding a full width second fret?

Honestly I dont know if it was worth doing what I did. I never use it any more. I guess it would depend on you and your needs.

Hey, what's happening! I got one of these, the spruce one. I want to ask you something. The action on mine is pretty high. From the top of the last fret to the bottom of the strings it measures 3.5 millimeters. Is this normal for these things. There is no room at the saddle to lower it by sanding down the bottom of the saddle because the strings are already almost touching the bridge. There is way less than half a mm before they bottom out on the bridge. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Sean. Sorry for taking so long. I just measured mine and it comes in around 3.5mm as well. It may seem high but the string tension is not the same as a guitar so the higher action shouldn't be a problem. And if you did take it lower then you would decrease the play-ability when using a pick because it doesn't have a raised fret board like a guitar. Which means the pick plays closer to the wood when strummed. I had to put a pick guard on mine cause I was wearing holes in it. Hope This helps.

Thanks for responding. I couldn't lower it even if I wanted to. There is not enough saddle. Any lower and the strings would be laying on the base of the bridge. I was just wondering if I got a dud. Thanks again for the response.

couldn't you just put your finger in the middle of the second fret without the wire?
