- Truck Haulage came to Bingham canyon mine in 1963. This was when large haul truck development was taking place. Companies like Wabco, Unit Rig, K W Dark, and Euclid were building trucks, experimenting, and improving them, constantly making them larger and larger. Pictures show an experimental Euclid truck they used at the mine, R-X rear dump hauler, known as the R-105, it came around the late 1960s. It was unique, being four-wheel-drive with an articulated frame and a pair of tires on each 4 wheels. The truck was good for downhill hauls because of its aggressive retard system, but it had a bad suspension that made it bounce. These are the only 2 pictures I have of this truck we had for a short time.
Very interesting and great information. Have a great evening 👍🏼🇺🇸😎
Every boy loves big trucks and shovels
So true, Thanks!
Very cool! Those are some BIG trucks. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, and so much bigger now.
The iron mine my dad worked at in Minnesota bought into these R105's in a big way, mainly because they couldn't get Lectra Hauls or Wabcos delivered in a reasonable time and they needed 100 ton trucks to replace their 20 year old 34 ton Euclids.
They weren't very good trucks and only lasted about 3 years.
They even had a turbine powered version as a test unit.
Thank you, what a great comment, I didn't like them much.
I bet it was ruff riding in one of those but it probably be fun to drive a few times 😄
Thanks Dwight, fun but weird to drive.
