I have the Go 2 Pentium, 4 gb ram, 64 gb. Honestly, it's a steal at this price. You get an amazing screen, a 1080p webcam which is much better that those in even the most high end laptops, very good sounding speakers, great battery life (thus far), full windows 10 Home and after a few updates, this device runs surprisingly smooth- even when medium to heavy multitasking. I am sure the M3 is a much better device and I would have gotten that if could afford it. But again, just think about all the things you get at this price. If I had enough money, I would get the M3 LTE version, though. Just to get as much computing in as tiny a form factor as possible. That's what really does it for me. And people who say at the 729 plus keyboard price you get close to Surface Pro 7 territory - I'll say you loose something the moment you go into that territory; the small form factor and the big brains!
I totally agree. I just bought for my wife the surface go 2 pentium, 8gb ram, 128gb. And we really like it. It's a very big step from her surface 3 10" (2015). For student, i think you don't need to get the m3 version. Here in Canada, this one retails at 849$ CAD, the LTE version @ 989$ CAD, way to much for our budget and if you ask me, way to much for any surface go tablet! At this point, might as well go with a surface pro 6 or 5 .. even brand new (we can get some good deals online with a keyboard!!). So that's why we opted for the pentium 4425y, 8gb ram, 128gb storage @ 664$ CAD (student discount), + surface pen + keybord bundle @ 259$ = 923$ + tx = 1063$ CAD (outch). But it does what we expected it from it!
64 GB has eMMC memory, which is bad. And the whole product is very niche. They should ditch kickstand for Go and make it 6 mm thin. Go stands for mobile, but it’s not mobile. It feels big and far, like most 10” Android tablets. Also make bezels smaller and 4:3 screen, so it would be usable in vertical orientation. Also offer free Office, at least mobile versions and start working with developers. Windows still misses a lot of apps. And sell it under midrange iPad Air price to compete. ARM version would also be useful for those who needs to test and debug ARM apps.
Yeah I've been really salivating at this device as a productivity machine for web development, something tells me it'd work great in-bed, on trains, outdoors, and on desks. The ergonomics of type covers is surprisingly good.
Using the Surface Go since 2018 as my daily driver and only windows machine. No complains with the performance, handles daily tasks like a pro, no lag or anything. Special mention would be its front facing camera. Way better than the front cameras of many $1000 laptops, amazing for video conferencing/calling. I never game on this device. This is never meant to be a gaming machine. The only unimpressive thing about the Surface Go is its battery life. I just wish for a bit longer battery ife on this. Otherwise its still a very capable windows machine that is a 'wanna be' tablet I would say!
Seriously! Same here! I love the multi tasking abilities of S6. And both the Dex version and tab portrait version is great. The S pen is flawless. But I am concerned about two things: 1. how will MS office and Adobe PDF work and look on the Tab6? Can I use the S pen to write in word, ppt, excel or onenote? Or to fill forms in Adobe PDF reader? Will the tab convert it into text? 2. The longevity of the software. I have noticed that I don't like to use my android cellphone more than 2 years. The apps which are continuously released on playstore, need the system updated. Otherwise you start feeling that your device is old and needs to be replaced.
Nicely done intro. Looking forward to a more in-depth video. I'd love to see how it handles basic photo editing on Lightroom/Photoshop or Affinity Photo/Affinity designer.
It’s a testament to your channel that I have zero intention or interest in this product but yet I’m watching. I have the 2018 Surface pro6, so I have no use for this. My only wish is that they slim down those bezels at some point
Great video once again, will you be reviewing the Lenovo Chromebook Duet anytime soon? Surface Go devices look good but are maybe a little expensive for me so looking for a cheaper alternative
The 4GB 64GB eMMC Surface Go 2 is absolutely fine for Office 365, email, Netflix, RUclips, MS edge. Multiple web pages, full blown multiple Excel, Word, PowerPoint files, multiple RUclips channels can be opened at the same time. It reads and writes to a microSD card pretty fast. So, for a secondary PC it's worth it for business users / office goers. As a primary PC, the screen size might be a bit of a limiting factor. Overall, it's a great device even in it's lowest configuration for the type of usage mentioned above.
I just ordered mine for €240 including 21% VAT. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price, finally some tech that's cheap in Europe, too. Yeah, newer model is out already, but I still wouldn't expect such an extreme price drop.
I just bought a renewed surface go 2 tablet with 4gb ram Pentium version, I hope It's good. I bought it for web browsing or taking it with me, I do have an HP victus gaming laptop, Great device. terrible battery life and it's bulky.
The SG2 (8 ram, 128 ssd, Pentium Gold) is a great small, light-weight, well-built portable COMPUTER. I get 10 hours of continuous RUclips viewing (50% brightness with Bluetooth, Wifi, and battery saver all on). It runs MS Office apps and statistical software (R-studio) with no problem. With 10 RUclips videos playing simultaneously there's no lag or stuttering when opening a new webpage. On the downside, speakers aren't great, needs a USB-A port, and full retail price is too high. Wait for a Best Buy sale or go open-box (mine was only $389US)...
The only thing in this video I disagree with is that the black type cover is actually microfiber. I have the black type cover and both the outside and the inside are soft fabric. Maybe it’s varies by county, but this is at least true in the US. Great video btw!
Not seeing any reviews on the base model which is disappointing and can only assume that MS never sent any out and that worries me. So I can only conclude that "starting from $399" is a bit of a misnomer, in the UK, starting from £639 (+£130 keyboard) for M3 version. So getting close to £1000 if LTE and pen. At that price, it is a hard buy as an M3 chip is barely acceptable on Windows in 2020. However, the consumers who buy the Go probably know its limitations and accept that. Given a choice of an iPad Pro with a keyboard and pencil at the same price as the Go with accessories it is an easy win for the iPad for me, and probably for many others.
This is not a review unit from Microsoft, I bought it myself like I do with almost every tablet. I picked the Core m3 version because I reviewed the first Surface Go and don't expect any noticable performance differences in the base versions.
@@MyNextTablet Hi, wasn't a criticism of you, just a general point. It is hard to get a review of the base model to see if it is fit for my purpose and if it is too slow and laggy for just basic use in S-mode? I fully understand if it is your own money the m3 is a far better choice, and look forward to the updates. Cheers.
Disappointed how dear the core M3 version is in the UK. Was hoping for the £500 mark. Maybe it will come down in price in a few months? All major retailers don't seem to be stocking the core M3 version
Great preview video! I’m glad MS shrunk the bezels and added an M3 version. The Surface GO needed those updates! The new red type cover looks good as well! Any plans to review the Lenovo Duet?
Would you say its better to get the pro version for Lightroom (and maybe photoshop)? I'm a photographer and looking for a tablet device where I can upload my raw images from my sd card while on the go. Rather not go through the route of adding add-ons to the device. Looking for suggestions.
