    Just finished the dome last week with cables up. The hard part is the distance combined with significant elevation gain. Exhausting. Temperatures were in the low 90's. Bring no less than 3 liters of water with a plan to filter and refill additional water in the Merced River near LYV camp on the way up and down. Nice video.

      Yes, I took 3 liters and a Nalgene and still filtered my bottle twice. It was exhausting, but I would go again in a heartbeat. Thanks for watching!

      That's a great hike. Started out at 2am so we were at the cables around 7am.
      Did it the first time when I was 12👍

    The one thing that is kind of cool of cables down is that the lack of posts means that you can use a prussik for a bit of safety.
    Looks like you had really nice weather for it.

      The hike was intense, surprisingly climbing the cables was that bad.

      the cables looks steep in video n from afar but is not really bad at all..

      @@josephsaeteurn9158 yea, the footage from the GoPro makes it look way steeper than it actually is. It’s not that bad, really.

    Why do they take the cables down ? Nice video btw; thanks for sharing!

    • @CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures

      They lay the cables down in the off season. Instead of being propped up on rails, the cables are just lying on the granite. You don’t need a permit during this time.

    • @seanspangler7385

      Because people are dumb and will try to climb the rock when its Icy.

    • @CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures
      @CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures  Месяц назад

      @@seanspangler7385 great point, even though you can climb during the off season, there is a lot of snow and ice. Definitely use caution. If you do go during the off season, late spring, just before the park installs the rails is best because most of the snow and ice has melted.

    What difference ..cables up and cables down...?

    • @CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures
      @CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures  2 месяца назад +2

      When the cables are up, the park installs metal post drilled into the rock that lifts them up about 3 feet off the surface along with boards that lay across the post. It makes it a lot easier to climb and the boards give you a place to stand and rest.
