- Russia's progress to the Quarter-Final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup was one of the surprise stories of the tournament. We asked some Russian fans to talk us through what made their World Cup so special.

I was on an airplane in Moscow getting ready to fly to St Petersburg when the penalty shootout between Spain and Russia happened. everyone was watching on their phones together and even though the pilot was telling everyone to sit no one wanted to and we stalled the flight so that we could watch the shootout. it was insane after they won it all the russians were chanting and the atmosphere was crazy. one of the greatest things i remember from the world cup!!

It's sad people still think it's the Soviet Union out there. I am from Serbia, went to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Rostov, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Nizhny Novogorod and Yekaterinburg and it was awesome, Beautiful and fun. I am not saying this because of my Serbian passion to love Russia, it is true, it is great. Western propaganda always scares the possible tourists from Russia.
Great world cup, Been to two games of Russia, against Egypt in Saint Petersburg, and against Spain in Moscow, which because of that I had lets say not the most Patriotic wishes in the match against Uruguay of Russia losing so I get so them in Moscow. But everything turned on the best side and the party in the streets was awesome after the games. the match against Croatia I already watch in the far east of Russia at 4AM local time , and there was a great moment when everyone started cheering for Gazinsky who was a native of the town I was staying in.
Russia were just a penalty shootout away from the semi finals, but they couldn't hold on. I wish Lev Yashin was watching russia play in 2018
