Yeah, they have been a cover band since they brought Arnel into the group, and while he's as good an imitator as any, that's as far as it goes. I believe Steve was instrumental in penning many of the great Journey hits and the odds of replicating Steve's incredible singing ability AND hit song writing are astronomical...proof that it's not only the singer(s), it's the songs that make for greatness in that business. Just the way it is.
Funny they mention Steve Perry's childhood. By a quirk of fate I ended up with many of his school books and a rare book of his about the recording industry.
@Mark Shell ... did you ever find any videos of Steve playing the drums (or any other instruments) ?? ... I would like to know that too ... if you did, can you share the links ??
Hey to those who are not aware, Steve Perry now has a new 2018 album called TRACES with a new website, merchandise, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Fan mail address. His album went to #6 on the BILLBOARD charts, #3 on the digital charts and WE'RE STILL HERE went to #14 on the Adult Contemporary charts.
and me ... never knew back then he was that close to me here in VA ... and now, he may never make it all the way back to the east coast again 😥 ... but Steve will stay at the top of my bucket list !! (if not for a live performance, than to just see him somewhere somehow, lol 🙂)
There is not a day goes by that Neal Schon" regrets" making that decision. All his karaoke singers, and Steve Perry still overshadows his now tribute band. It's what he gets!! Steve Perry made Journey famous and is still considered Journey.Steve was recently in NY and a photo of him was in a news article and it read lead singer of Journey.Bet that made Schons day when he learnt of it .
What pissed me off was when they got the HOF award. The band were "upset" that Arnel wasn't included. They said Arnel was deserving because he has been with the band for 10 straight years. "Unlike Perry who was off and on". I heard that and I'm like seriously? Hall of Fame means the past and the impact of their music altogether. Not just the last 10 years with a Steve Perry wannabe!!

JTA 1973 Rolie was too hippy dippy for me. He was singing a la Beatles era style. Kinda of a imitation style. Didn't like it at all. When Steve made his stamp on the band and Role left it was much better.
I couldn't ever bail on any of Steve's music, no matter what the era ... from the first singing I have heard Steve do even before Journey, and all the way through today & beyond ... can't wait to see what he'll surprise us with next !! 💜
Even Neal said in a different documentary referring to Steve's first solo album, quote "it sounds like Journey". No shit! Because SP was the major influence on the Journey sound. Not entirely but a hell of a lot.
In 2001 here, though VH1 was not always playing music videos anymore, anything outside of music videos was all music related still such as this Steve Perry/Journey documentary. Back in 2001 here on VH1, you had a combination of music videos, music documentaries such as this one, music talk shows, music movies, and anything music related. Now in 2019, VH1 no longer has music videos and is overrun with stupid reality shows that glorifies drama, stupidity, and ignorance. Same with Discovery, MTV, TLC, History, etc... SAD!!!
Tidus Jecht I had to change the channel. I saw all I needed to see, Steve being humble and showing respect for himself and those other idiots ( mild compared to what i wanted to call them ) Steve showed class, very proud of him.

By a quirk of fate I ended up with many of his school books and a rare book of his about the recording industry.
wow 😮, really ?? ... that's amazing 💜 ... there's a lot of fans that would love to have some of his old books like that (including me, lol 🙂) ...
Lets not forget that Steve Smith is one of the most accomplished drummers ever.
Attractive steve perry with beautiful voice and hair. Just lovely
Steve Perry has and always will be Journey ❤️ Love his sexy voice and even now still charismatic and sexy as hell😍 Rock n roll baby 🎸
You get me☺️
I love Journey. Great memories of the "Escape" Album!
3rd best American band ever! Steve P the best singer in histpry!
Steve Perry is journey; Robert plant to led zep ; fred mercury to queen they music will live forever.
send her my love
When Steve left Journey I left Journey
Me too... Steve can't be duplicated!
Me three ... Steve Perry is why I listened ❤️
@Danielle Perry me too
Had no clue Steve started out as a drummer! Gotta see if I can find some video of that!!
Mark Shell he also played bass! have you found anything yet?
And a little bit of keyboards.
Mark Shell Steve's official website:
Steveperry.com
@Mark Shell ... did you ever find any videos of Steve playing the drums (or any other instruments) ?? ... I would like to know that too ... if you did, can you share the links ??
Hey to those who are not aware, Steve Perry now has a new 2018 album called TRACES with a new website, merchandise, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Fan mail address. His album went to #6 on the BILLBOARD charts, #3 on the digital charts and WE'RE STILL HERE went to #14 on the Adult Contemporary charts.
Where too write or send fan address
I missed him in D.C. with the Eels in May...still kicking myself for that. That may have been my last chance to see him perform live again. SAD!!
wheels216 I know how you feel, me too. 😢😢
and me ... never knew back then he was that close to me here in VA ... and now, he may never make it all the way back to the east coast again 😥 ... but Steve will stay at the top of my bucket list !!
Wow, I never heard Cain sing on his own before! This was a new one for me!
Thanks for sharing this it was GREAT!!!
Who sings while they're bleeding? Only Steve Perry
and still just a little kid at 3 or 4 ... and laughing as he tells his grandpa's story "blood was dripping down my nose and I kept singing" ... omg, he was just as unbelievable even then !!
El mejor cantante de Rock. Nació para cantar felicito a su mamá por averlo traído a este mundo y disfrutar de de sus canciones y su sencibilidad y carisma hoy que es su cumpleaños es un señorón felicidades
LOVE ❤️ STEVE PERRY
Send her my love
He's one of the best 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Thank you ldyintn for finding this! I love it! Been looking all over for this!
Love this!!!
Shout out to my 1990's TriCities Wa assistant buss driver who sounded exactly frickin like Steve. ;)
Thanks for sharing! Awesome Journey
Thank you good to see exactly how it all came together! tho gregg rolie and steve perry are my favs along with Neils guitar playing ! appreciate the post --1979rocker
Journey w/ Perry & Rolie was my favorite era. I bailed after "Escape".
It ain't journey without Steve Perry
The best, Steve that is!😍
Even Neal said in a different documentary referring to Steve's first solo album, quote "it sounds like Journey". No shit! Because SP was the major influence on the Journey sound. Not entirely but a hell of a lot.
Never had a #1 hit. Amazing.
The tender ballads are for the boys too!
SAD!!!
I thought i had heard just about everything about Steve & Journey. But first i have heard about his early childhood. Very interesting.
awesome!
love Steve Perry I will never listen to that new guy
Unfortunately I heard him when I watched the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Poor guy sounds terrible.
In Hall of Fame, Steve not sings !!!
Tidus Jecht is talking about the new guy Pineda who sang with Journey at the RRHOF.
Tidus Jecht I had to change the channel. I saw all I needed to see, Steve being humble and showing respect for himself and those other idiots ( mild compared to what i wanted to call them ) Steve showed class, very proud of him.
Steve Perry wss the hart and soul of that band, it's not the same with out him....
Yeah well they have gone from a great band to a tribute band to singing Perry songs,Schon knows that. How do you know Perry can't sing ? Did you hear him? I say he can still sing as does some well respected guitartist in music.. Schon and co would jump through hoops to get Perry back .Because with Perry comes status, respect, every label would be knocking..With Perry it was about the music ! With Schon it is about the money.Tapegate proved that!!.

Excellent Post. All True.
My wish for steve perry is that he could have had more passion and confidence to keep going as a rockstar and be in much more control of his fame and art so my generation would have really loved him along with the popstars we have now.
Here's something really funny: Steve Perry and I not only share the same Azorean Portuguese heritage, but also the same birthday.
Journey's music wasn't: this for the boys and that for the girls, I loved every single song they cranked out. With Steve Perry of course, sorry Arnel. If they ever got back for even one tour, they'd all have to tamp down their egos.
trini I would mortgage my house to buy tickets to see that concert !!!
me too, but it will never happen 😥 ... Steve is good with his life now as it is, and very happy making his own music 🎶🎶 ... seeing him perform live (or even just seeing him out somewhere period) is still at the top of my bucket list 💜 ... but even if I never do, I can be ok with that, cause I'm just very grateful that he is back again sharing that new music with us all ... I love 💜 that Steve is happy, still making music, and again releasing it to the world 🌎 !! ... and God bless his angel 😇 Kellie for getting him to keep his promise to her ... we all owe her a huge thanks ... welcome back Steve Perry, we're still here, and we never stopped believin' !! ... love you, your big heart, all your talents, and your amazing Voice !! 💜💜🎶🎤🎶💜💜
What Schon said, thats what happens to just about all musicians and is why the music stops flowing... familiarity breeds contempt. sad, so make it while its alive! and enjoy what you had
Thank you
