    Nice video! You really have some nice set-ups for fishing the swimbaits. I'm mainly a Lew's fan, but you have some great stuff. Appreciate you taking the time to share with us!

      Thanks for watching. Lews makes some nice gear. I have some Lews for throwing my conventional tackle.

    My workhorse set up in a Dobyns Fury 795SB and a Piscifun Alijoz 300. Great set up for A rigs, bullshads up to 6" and glides. For big swimbaits I use a Irod large swim and a Daiwa Lexa 400 for swimbaits are bigger than 7". Also have some shimano curado 301e on a fury 795SB..trik fish mono on all my setups.

      Great setups! I haven’t used an iRod before. I’ve heard good things about them.

      I was looking into the Alijoz and it seems good but I don't know if it's going to be a good real to pitch under trees with swimbaits unlike the Tran X but at the price point if you say it can that would be great I just don't want to buy more than one reel the next couple years if its not capable.

      @@harrisonhull1832 I can’t answer that. On the river and in heavy currents like I fish, I’m not pitching under trees

    I like to use at least a 7.4 gear ratio for a 200 size reel for the smaller choppy glides. Or a minimum of a 6.6 with a 300 size reel. The bigger diameter 300 spool gets more IPT than the 200 spool. 35 vs 32 in my case. Really like those IPTs to pickup the slack line. Never tried a 150 size reel, but I'd guess a 8 gear ratio would be ideal there.

      I haven’t tried the 150 size either. Completely agree with the IPT making a huge difference.
      Thanks for watching!

    I use that same daiwa tatula 200 reel and rod but the 7’9 heavy swimbait rod up to 6oz it’s great for mid sized glides. I have the savage gear squad 8’ XH that I use for Deps 250s/striper fishing paired with the Lexa 300. I need a good softbait rod made for driving owner beast hooks and savage gear pulse tails but I’d rather not just go grab a dobyns I’m trying to shop around. Maybe get an FTW Rod, local to Sneedville TN!

      Thanks for watching! I’ve been looking for one too. Depending on how heavy a bait and which gauge hook, I’ve used the Dobyns for it, but I’d like to find one a little more designed for weed less swimbaits.

    excellent video! thanks for sharing the information. i have been fishing swimbaits and glide baits for a long time now and I am still always tinkering with new baits and rods. I am about to pull the trigger on a new leviathon rod as i have heard they are incredible and you just confirmed that in your review. would you go with a heavy or extra heavy for a 6-7oz Hinkle shad?

    • @perkinscustomswimbaits
      @perkinscustomswimbaits  5 месяцев назад

      I would probably go with the XH. The heavy I have is great with my 4.5 oz baits. I think the XH would support that next size up a little better than the heavy.

    I'm looking for an all around rod and the Dobyns Swim bait rod is my #1 choice but I don't know whether to get the med heavy or the heavy for just every swim bait style for large mouth. I think the lighter one would work for everything but if you have another opinion I would wanna hear it.

    • @perkinscustomswimbaits
      @perkinscustomswimbaits  3 месяца назад

      I would personally go with the 806 vs the 795. The reason I say that is Dobyns typically over rates the weight limits on their rods. The 806 tops out around 5-6 ounces that is comfortable to throw on it. I use the 795 a lot for my A rigs, 8 inch magdraft, and lighter glide baits around 3 ounces or less. In my opinion, the 806 gives you a little more room on the top end if you want to throw some heavier baits.
      How heavy of baits do you want to throw?
      I hope this helps.

      @@perkinscustomswimbaitshelps a lot, I was to throw anything from a 6 inch magdraft to a 12 inch glide bait and all the inbetween, I was wondering if the heavier rod would affect my ability to cast accurately because it would be more of a broom stick

    • @rickyrodriguez9831

      @@harrisonhull1832you’re not going to want to throw a 6” Magdraft on the same rod as a 12” glide bait lol that’s can be a 8oz difference or more. Just like with small baits treble hooks need more moderate action and big jig hooks need more fast.
