Willy is the greatest character. What a personality. Glad to see a bit of this part of our country. Here in the Northeast, we have some beautiful parks as well.
Thank you for coming along with us Tom to the Piney Woods!
I'm blind and can't travel anymore I love Volkswagen so I travel along with y'all and get to see places I'd never get to see thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for joining us. We love that we have the opportunities to go on these old VW Bus adventures!
You Guy's know how to have Fun, love your road trip and Old Willie Boy...
It was a great Bus Bash!! Thank you for watching !
My Pertronix story: Pertronix SVDA Ignitor III distributor, .032 Flamethrower III coil and generator equipped 1600. It never ran quite right with a stumble below ~2500 rpm and finally burnt out the coil. I replaced the .032 ohm coil with a Pertronix 1.5 ohm coil. Cured the stumble and so far so good. Turns out that the generator can't supply the voltage needed for the low ohm .032 coil and eventually cooked the coil. 1.5 ohm coil or alternator is the secret sauce.
THIS makes sense and helps to explain my theory of generators being the issue. Jake and I both now running Bosh Blue coils. fingers crossed
I went to school at Stephen F. Austin S.U. in Nacogdoches from 1973-1978. I had friends with split window and Bay Window buses, and we camped all over the Piney woods. Including Ratcliff. I met my wife in a math class, and to impress her I took her on a picnic to Ratcliff in my 1971 Bug. It must have worked because 48 years later we are still together. We camped at Ratcliff a few years ago when we came to Texas from Wyoming to visit family in Longview and Austin. It’s still a beautiful spot, especially in spring with the red bud and Dogwoods blooming. Its cold and snowy in Wyoming now. So its time to replace the boots on the CV joints on my 1978 VW camper bus and replace the leaking oil filler tube. And i have new bushings for the shifter. Got to get ready for spring in March. Or April. Or May.😎👍
Holy smokes Bill! Yes, you know the area very well! I had always stayed at Mission Tejas SP when Jake and I would head to my Dad's up in Texarkana. Now, Ratcliff is gonna be on my list of best places to camp in Texas!
If you go through Daingerfield on your way to Texarkana, checkout Daingerfield State Park. And Tyler has a State Park. Both are beautiful.😎
That was one of the nicest camp sites we've been in. We can't wait to do it again. Thanks again for organizing everything!
Lola!!!!! What a great Bus Bash!!!
Hey man, it's that commonality that has brought us all together across the internet and wherever we all may be. You are a legend Gary.
Chris, appreciate you watching!
You can't beat fun wherever it takes you. Be safe.
Thank you for watching!
I swear, Gary, you are one cool cat cruising around with that windshield popped out! :)
I cannot imagine driving without the Safaris open, unless it’s under 60 degrees! Thank you for watching
When I got my ghia built last year, I put a Pertronix flamethrower coil on it. It's the only part that's ever failed on me (so far). I run an alternator, and Pertronix electronic dizzy.
Well, there goes the generator theory??!!! Maybe they are just crappy coils?
..and right on with the peace and love, too, man!
Yeah, well...green tea Gary? Bleecchhh!!
Since I don’t drink coffee or hot chocolate, I figure green tea is the next best thing. I should make my own flavor, Velvet Green Tea!
Camping from NC to Austin, TX is not something we'll repeat too often, but it was a wonderful set of family memories when we did it in our Eurovan. Our family has been camping with Scouts more than the VW recently, but it's still building memories.
If you want another Eurovan, see Marc!
Makes me want to go camping can't wait until I get my 74 Bay window sometime in the next couple weeks and I get to start taking my boys out and making memories ❤
This is what it is all about!!
Hello Garry and VW lifers from Sydney Australia, love watching your travels and love the way you guys do things, love the old buses.
We appreciate y’all joining us!
Word from a part time plumber. Look into a 5 lb propane tank and see how much money you save over those 1lb cans. I have a 2013 bug and i find a place for my 5 lb every time i go out, that looks like a Real nice time. Thank You for sharing! I have to agree with the coffee drinkers, the day will not start until i get my cup of coffee!
Thank you John for the great tip on the propane tank!
I’ve got to get me a bus. I’m a wanderer, and though I don’t want to give up my motorcycle I am older now and a bus would make a better bed than the ground. Love the channel, my #1 view.
Thank you for watching! Yes, there is just something about seeing the countryside in a VW Bus!
You're so right bro. I'm from the hood in Long Beach California..but I'm into vws so heck yeah I'd roll with all you guys! Vws brings people together
Nice trip! Glad you all had fun. I have been running pertronix ignition since prob 2003. Never had an issue. I run flame thrower 3 ohm coil, electronic ignition and 8mm wires but just switched to 7mm wires recently with no noticeable change. Same Coil and ignition in my beetle for 20 years
Yep, it's all about a comradery!
Truer words never have been spoken.
cool footage- goodybe~
Good content Gary. One of these days I may join you guys. Maybe the Marfa trip? Agree with dustyoldhat. Started camping with the HD and sleeping bag. It's cool to be with like-minded folks.
The Route 67 VW Road Trip is coming in March! It is gonna be epic!!!
Thank yoh for sharing! I am looking forward to hearing what people are using on the Petronics coil.
Yes indeed.
I've lost one on Jerry and Jake lost one on Ziggy.
i need more vw life videos! MORE...
Thanks for sharing!!
Camping is FUN! I need to go to Texas.
Cmon and join us for the US Route 67 VW Road Trip in March!
Watch out for gators!!
They literally had a sign that said:
watch out for gators, fire ants, snakes and chupacabras! ()i made that last one up!)
Great trip. Interesting history. Is that a small St. Christopher statue on your dash?
It is a St Francis statue. My very first teaching position was at the greatest school on the planet, St Francis Episcopal Day School in Houston. So, as homage to St Francis and the fact he was the Patron Saint of Animals, I have a tiny little St Francis riding with me in Jerry the Bus.
That's a great story. I worked in secondary schools for 39 years until 2019. 👍☘️
Just a thought: try taking some cold brew coffee on your camping trips. Just a friendly suggestion.
We picked up some cans of cold brew during this trip to keep in the fridge as a backup.
Pertronix Electronic Distributor w/Flame Thrower Coil on 1500cc SP for 2+ years issue free, engine with 12v generator on 62 DD Panel
Run pertronics seven years ,blue coil no problems.Alternator.
Generator or alternator?
And, the 7 years might be the key too, all the ones we are having issues with are within about year or 2 old.
First like! First post! FIRST CHANNEL!
Ok, now, having watched it, what an epic trip! Great folks, beautiful country, good times! I have to admit, I felt a bit of melancholy at the end, like I'd been there along with you and just didn't want to go home! Happy motoring!
Thank you for being first in line!!!
