Redex does not increase fuel mileage. It does a great job of making the engine run well

    • @glchow
      @glchow  25 дней назад +2

A poor running engine will consume more fuel.

Being in the fuel industry you'd be better off filling up at a branded fuel station eg Shell, Esso etc as their fuel contains additives already. Their more expensive range of fuels eg Vpower etc will after a while make your car run better and get more mpg and responsive vehicle. Ok it costs more and you don't necessarily notice it on one run but after a while you will notice the difference.

As you would know working in the industry all fuels have additives. It’s part of the EU standards. The premium will have more hence the increase in cost. I don’t know whether it’s coincidence or correlation but when I fuel system failure and talk about fuels most people are using Vpower. Each fuel will have a different additive and if you always use the same fuel you can get a build up of additive, probably the cause of component failure. The reason you can feel the ‘ boost’ effect when switching fuels is that this can clean out the additive buildup.

@@glchow First try was fill the tank on top of a single bottle of emissions reducer, and within 20/30 miles, the engine warning lamp disappeared! 👍 It came back next time I topped up more than half a tank. This was all about 3 weeks ago. I tried the system cleaner next, but didn't read the words and added the whole bottle instead of half. After a few miles the service warning light came on. I kept topping up and eventually was back to the engine light. I know my intake needs a clean out, but a bad back stops me working on the car for more than just having a quick look at the EGR. (Very sooty!)

@@glchow Yes, ours is cheaper. It about $3.89 here in Texas which is $1.02 per liter. But our smaller diesel pickups (Jeep gladiator) get 25 mpg. We don't really have smaller cars that run on diesel. I think our older VW diesel cars used to get great milage because of their small engines and light weight.

We went to Torquay twice from South Wales and on the first trip I used a whole bottle of Redex, on the second trip I used a whole can of Liqui Moly super diesel additive, I found Redex was better, the car had better pulling power and the gauge didn't move until we got to the camp site, we were towing a trailer and the first trip we had more to take with us, the second trip with the Liqui Moly the car did seem quieter however pulling the same trailer which was lighter this time struggled up the same steep hill and had to drop into 3rd gear.
Overall for us the Redex was the better additive, our car is a 1.9DCI 2009 Grand Scenic if that makes a difference 😅

Thanks for your feedback. The best part of posting these videos is getting other drivers perspective and this was the inspiration for this test. The redex does not have any cetane boosters so I cannot increase the explosiveness of the fuel, but does help with upper cylinder lubrication and may lower exhaust temperature. Maybe this means the egr /cooler is not being utilised as much? Hard to test for. I initially got some remarkable economy, but the engine quickly re-tuned this out.

@@glchow I don't know how dirty the fuel system was, the car is a 59 plate so it could have just had a good clean. The Liqui Moly I can't quite figure out why it worked the way it did, It could just be one of those things.

I've never used this in my diesel car. The last time I had to put stuff in was 2 years ago for an emissions failure, my mechanic told me to put a bottle of Diesel Magic in the tank. I'm not sure about performance but it did the trick for my MOT. Is Redex the same type of stuff as Diesel Magic? Cheers 👍

It can’t hurt it. As others have said I believe it’s just kerosene, a cleaner. I would imagine the injector version is a stronger mix. If it was damaging the package would need a warning. I ran 2 bottles though with no issues

I think you need a basic mechanical knowledge to run these tests accurately.
To actually scrutinise the product fuel filters should be changed after tank number 1.
Also , the valves need inspected as do injecters.
I am pretty much against adding anything into the fuel tank of a well maintained vehicle.
However, you really need to understand that the product is meant to be a fuel system cleaner and not an immediate gain of MPG. As I said, I do not buy into quick fixes and do not believe in pouring additives into a fuel tank!
Also, to add....even wind direction will effect mpg test results!
The only test I carried out with fuel was carried out on a rolling road.
The instigation for this was a misfire under load when using Sainsbury's unleaded. ( sierra cosworth 4x4 371bhp ) I wony insult people by explaining the results!
But basically, Redex is a product meant to keep your fuel system clean....if you ate doing service correctly then you replace these fuel system components anyway!
Only benefit I see is a low mileage vehicle using Redex every month to keeo a clean fuel system not subject to maintaining like Valve, Injection, inlet ( coke buildup) etc
Nice Idea, but not a good test. Better to check results after 3 months of using with new filters. If it helps keep a fuel pump of SCV operational and clean then it sure pays for itself.
    Or not 😂
