Howard Huntsbury also smashes it with a cover of Higher And Highet on the Ghostbusters 2 ost. All from film soundtracks that released in 89. Love your work prof. Much respect from Manchester England. I saw Tesla at the Miami Arena about 1989 or so. My friend and I intentionally did the opposite of what I normally do and sit as far and high up in the nosebleeds as possible. It was only Tesla right, and I wanted to know what it was like up there.
One thing I'll never forget is at some point the 2nd guitar player, 1 of 2 in the band walked right off the stage and onto the concrete floor (about 10 feet) and hit HARD! He was of course plugged in and cranked up so that made it sound like he could have been dead! I don't remember the houselights going off but I remember the band was backstage for at least 10 minutes before the "primary" guitarist (curly blonde hair dude) came out with an acoustic and just played and scatted. He was singing but nothing in particular, vocalizing so we figured it was a good sign the guy who fell was not dead!
After that the other 4 came out to thunderous applause and finished the show, WELL! 🙏🎸🎶☮️🎵

I was in the Army in summer of '93 and won 2 pair of tickets for Great White at a local club. So my wife and I, along with another couple go. He was a drummer in a band so other than getting drumming advice throughout, it was a great show. The seats were front row and as it turned out right next to the "route" that the band took on and off the stage. So anyway after they played my buddy wanted to get a drum stick signed so we all lined up at the exit. It was summer time in Ga. and the humidity was 112% there as a rule. So as they come off stage the crowd starts closing in I found myself pressed back to back with Mark Kendall. He was sweating like " enter your favorite sweating bad clique here" and I swear it was like someone just laid a wet towel over my shoulder lol. Now I am a music fan. A rock fan. I AM a Great White fan ...a true head banger!....and up until that second I was thinking how cool it was to get that close to the band in that setting. But as a man,to suddenly and unexpectedly to be drenched in the sweat of another man...I was more 🤢🤬!!! They were all like you should have got him to autograph it! Took me awhile to " recover" my Great White love after that. They still tease me about my Great White souvenir lol.

Ok Professor, I've seen 3 of your videos and decided that the RUclips algorithm was right about me when they suggested your channel. Music is my greatest passion, always has been. I love being analyzing lyrics and music and the rock and roll stories and trivial things that wouldn't concern anyone else except someone similar. I just spent 20 minutes of my life watching you chat with the former guitar player from a band that was popular in those magical years of discovery.
Discovering Dylan and Hendrix, huge Zeppelin and Rush fan, but also the Pop music of the late 70s early 80s like Motley Crue and Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Beatles, Sinatra, eclectic tastes in music. I think it's because my first album was "Grease" . Listening to the soundtrack to the movie a hundred times on a little record player that resembled a suitcase until I wore it out. I loved it so much I even bought a 45 of Physical, the Olivia Newton John single . I had my mom promise not to tell anyone that I liked her and Elton John, Billy Joel lest they think me uncool right? 😂 I'm 49 and I'm trying to get back into music after a season of letting music take the backseat for too long.
I bought a guitar in September and I'm getting my chops back, listening to more music and letting it take over my head again.
I accepted a life with very little music involved because life happens. Health stuff in my case but I'm doing great. I had a back surgery and I have emphasema but I'm really doing better than 98% of the world, I've got it made right now. I'm not walking, but I intend to walk. I play guitar from the bedside. I've been listening more cause I can but I don't have anyone to talk to about it, shoot the breeze about bands like the cult , great white, Tesla (I saw the poor guitar player walk right off the stage at the Miami Arena in around 89, the band didn't play for 10 minutes but 1 guitar player vamped until the 2nd guitarist was ok)
I'm surrounded by people who are culturally unable to relate to my music so I found this gratifying, it's like being in a conversation without the ability to interject or participate. I like learning little trivial things as I've said, I've always loved stories, Dr Seuss served a purpose at one point in my life. Songs can be little 3 minute stories right? Janis or Kris, will you tell us the story about Bobby McGee again? 😂
Anyway I've talked enough but I liked the Bob Seger - Night Moves video and I really like you. If you'll keep em comin', I've almost always got a half hour to put toward learning something about music, especially with you at the helm as curious as I am at least. Nice goin' Professor 🎸🎶☮️🙏

How many times have I wondered if you would ever do anything about Tesla? Quite a few. They were always amazing live. I saw them every chance i could. Not only an incredible singer but the guitar work was mind bending live. I remember telling my older sister (music teacher) about the way the guitar players would play different things that fit together (counterpoint) and that they each had different styles but complimented each other perfectly and she looked at me like i was nuts. Next thing i know she sat in my car and listened to Mechanical Resonance from end to end. All she said was we need to see that live. Not only where they talented, they had artistic integrity. They didn't do all that dim the lights crap, they didn't leave the stage and wait for the encore like they needed their little curtain call, they came out and rocked from start to finish and left it all on the stage. Hell I saw them when Tommy left and they continued the tour because they felt they owed it to their fans. Next thing i know it's in a fine arts theatre because they didn't sell enough tickets for the arena and as soon as we sit down Jeff walks out and tells us that they aren't going to use tape, but they only gave one guitar so Frank is going to play his part and do his best trying to cover Tommy's too. The true fans appreciated that show more than any concert i have ever seen.

Another song that came out while I worked at a record store. My boss was a huge Ian Hunter fan and was thrilled to hear somebody doing one of his songs. I knew Ian was the singer in Mott The Hoople, but really wasn't familiar with anything beyond All The Young Dudes. It was funny hearing my boss say how nice it was to hear somebody covering an Ian Hunter song and the rest of the staff stared at him blankly. He referenced Mott The Hoople and got the same stares.
This album sold well, but the single was a huge hit. I think the b-side was a non album track so I expected to move a few more copies for that, but a lot of the people buying ithe single was either the top 40 crowd or older customers who remember it from Mott The Hoople.

Ah, this is a time I remember well. This is the summer right before I turned 22. I was about to go back to a university (got into one right after high school, but it didn't turn out so well for a sheltered small-town kid who didn't have anyone there to say, "hey, maybe you shouldn't do that shit!") and worked at a place where I was pretty tight with my co-workers at the pizza joint where I worked as a delivery driver. And we all had similar tastes as far as music went.
Funny story: Right around the time I was about to turn 22, one of the girls at the Domino's I worked for mentioned her birthday was about a week before mine. And she said, "You better give me something good for my birthday!" I had a bit of a crush on her, and didn't realize she was joking. I was scrambling for ideas, and ended up giving her flowers. It didn't lead anywhere (she already had a boyfriend), but she was genuinely surprised I had thought to give her **something**. She did give me a nice card with a very sweet message written inside when my birthday came around.
But was Great White really a "glam metal" band? Yeah, they had the right look, and in their early years they sounded a bit metal-ish. But where they really found their voice was the point where they shifted to bluesy hard rock. And that is how I have always seen them, even at the time ... Twice Shy came out.

What I've always found interesting is that Ian Hunter, who wrote "Once Bitten Twice Shy" for his first solo album, also wrote "Ships," which was on his fourth album. It failed as a single for him, but of all people, Barry Manilow took it to #9 in 1979. Also on that fourth Hunter LP was "Cleveland Rocks," which was covered later by Presidents of the United States and made famous via The Drew Carey Show. Hunter was never able to secure that one big solo hit himself, but luckily others picked up his tunes and made them hits.

I remember Mark stepping over the stage monitor to play on a little piece of the stage that was right in front of me, and the idiot standing next to me grabbed his foot as it was coming down. How did dude not know it was huge hit in 75? Mick Ronson plays perfect solo as always. Bowie's long time guitarist co producer in the Spiders From Mars up to Pin Ups. Highly recommend "All the Young Dudes" album. "All the Way From Memphis" was a rocking boogie Ian Hunter track from late 70's. Great choice for a cover. How about expose' on the English Band The Sweet? They were doing stuff in 1973 totally lifted by Motley Crew and the 80's bands. Except the 4 part harmonies. Nobody not even Queen came close to Sweet's vocals.
