Big misunderstanding, Some aren’t afraid of the dark itself, But what could be potentially in it. The fear of the unknown, mixed with the fear of being almost blind. Who knew it would be such an unsettling combo?
If i was blind it would be fun to have scp 096 as a child but there is negative stuff 1st people would wanna pet him so they will look at his head and rip to them and 2nd he will cry when he hears loud stuff Ik my kids very good it doesn't matter that I'm brown and his whiter than the skys
I have a pretty big fear (or maybe phobia at this point) of the dark, but seeing the images doesn't scare me. HOWEVER, being in those spaces irl would scare the shit out of me. Knowing that something, anything, anyone could be there and you can't see them. Forests and cornfields would probably be the worst since they're such big, unending open spaces. Hell, something could kill you and maybe no one would ever know. Plus, the rustling and sounds in these areas are made louder due to the open space. The dark is horrifying, so I usually never walk alone in dark spaces alone even in my own house. Something just could, just REALLY could, be there.

I wasn't really scared if the dark until like 6 months ago while I was waiting to go to the restroom upstairs, I just turned off my lights in the room so I can turn on a brighter light. But as soon as I turned off my lights, I swear that something or someone I could not see touched my shoulder. And to make matters worse, I have 2 mirrors facing each other in the front and back of me and I swear I saw a silhouette of some sort right behind me and it scared the living daylights outta me. I literally just closed me eyes because if there was something there, there is nothing I could do in that situation. I literally was like in shock for that time. It still gives me chills when I think of that experience.
Well the light would be better because if it was something dangerous, you would see it coming but otherwise, you might die because you didn’t see it because it was dark

Something crazy to think about is cavemen (before fire) would sit in complete black in caves... Then again the night sky was filled with lights and stars.
There was a time I was going on a night walk with one of my friends. We decided to go through the woods. At first it was fine. The trees were distanced far enough apart that our flashlights could get a good view of what was around us. But as we go deeper into the woods, the looming trees began to block all sight from our flashlights. Having that vast empty space be dead silent was eerie enough. Couple that with the looming trees guarding the vast void of the dark gave me a sense of impending doom. Then a wild animal screamed from a bush behind us. I nearly died of fright and began whimpering. All these photos painfully remind me of that moment.
I have a fear of the dark. I can barely sleep when the lights are completely off and I feel like I see things watching me, and when I'm outside or just generally somewhere at night, I start shaking uncontrollably, fumbling, and my heart apparently feels like a hummingbird. this sucks for my soul man

I'm not sure which is spookier: the forest, or cathedrals. The evil spirits mess with your mind in either case. It takes a very strong will to be able to avoid succuming to the panic and mortifying fear that they torment us with.
I very much agree. But you can also use this to your advantage. If you know that it is spirits and not reality, then you can put your mind into a state where anything scary isn’t reality. Until you lose focus or change the setting/scenario. Most people do not realize this and so they become very vulnerable to these spirits. Sometimes they will even physically do things to make you scared and that’s the point that most people give in. It’s not the dark, and it isn’t what “lurks In the dark” it’s the spirits that control your mind to think it. Now, if you are smart enough you can recognize if what is happening is a spirit’s doing or not, and this also means that you can know if you are truly in danger or not. Let’s say you focus so that nothing scary is reality, but what if there is an actual person stalking you. In which case you could be in real danger, but your mind won’t let you understand it.
Yo I where I used to live there was a cemetery and church like right next to my apartment and I used to walk by it to go to work form day shift to night shift but tbh I wasn’t spooked the worst to me would be being followed by a person then I would shit myself.

I think this phobia is related to the fact that a lot of people are not scared OF the dark, they're scared of what's INSIDE the dark. (I.e wolves, monsters, serial killers, etc.)
The one with the forest scares me the most (ignore isabelle or whatever the hell it is) because when I come back from the beach with my parents it's night and we always go through forest and it pisses me off when they stop to piss or to see the stars because I get afraid as hell about not really the dark but what could be in the dark and I just get creepy vibes everytime we have to stop and it's even more creepy when theres another car that passes by or stops near us because they could come and kidnap us I just really hate when people have to stop in the middle of the forest at like 11 at night and it scares the shits out of me

no, man, its not everyone that is afraid of "what is in the dark, not the dark itself". i am nictophobic and being in the dark scares the shit out of me. just not being able to see. i have nictophobia because of my paranoid anxiety and sometimes i even see shit where it is nothing. not being able to see if someone is coming to me it horrifying. i always imagine that when the light comes back, a lot of creepy stuff will be waiting for me, and they approached me because i couldn't see them before. i know there is nothing, but i think in the same moment that i'm deprived of my eyesight, horrible stuff will happen to me. not just eldritch creatures, but also people and even animals like creppy insects, arachnids, snakes, etc. i'm not scared of those hurting me, but just of them touching me while i can't see what's there.

I really didn't know I have this phobia until one night in my house every lights turned off. There's was not even a single point of light, everything was dark and I was like a blind. That time I panicked, went on shouting, stood up and begun to run randomly around the house. It's the first time in my life that I came to know about one of my weaknesses. Second time, I literally would've died from short breathness.

The one with the forest scares me the most (ignore isabelle or whatever the hell it is) because when I come back from the beach with my parents it's night and we always go through forest and it pisses me off when they stop to piss or to see the stars because I get afraid as hell about not really the dark but what could be in the dark and I just get creepy vibes everytime we have to stop and it's even more creepy when theres another car that passes by or stops near us because they could come and kidnap us I just really hate when people have to stop in the middle of the forest at like 11 at night and it scares the shits out of me

I’m somewhat afraid of the dark and that’s why I have two night lights I’m only afraid of it because I don’t know what could be in there I don’t like the feeling of not being able to see
Most people say "its not the dark its whats in it" , but that is not true , the reason anyone and any animal has fear of the dark is that it evolved as any random fear and animals with this fear lived more because it kept us away from potential danger , so we are afraid of the dark whether we know there is something in there or not

no, man, its not everyone that is afraid of "what is in the dark, not the dark itself".
i am nictophobic and being in the dark scares the shit out of me. just not being able to see. i have nictophobia because of my paranoid anxiety and sometimes i even see shit where it is nothing. not being able to see if someone is coming to me it horrifying. i always imagine that when the light comes back, a lot of creepy stuff will be waiting for me, and they approached me because i couldn't see them before.
i know there is nothing, but i think in the same moment that i'm deprived of my eyesight, horrible stuff will happen to me. not just eldritch creatures, but also people and even animals like creppy insects, arachnids, snakes, etc. i'm not scared of those hurting me, but just of them touching me while i can't see what's there.

The darkness in the distance is what scares me, like in the pictures. Couldn't see what further ahead and that messes me.
I really didn't know I have this phobia until one night in my house every lights turned off. There's was not even a single point of light, everything was dark and I was like a blind. That time I panicked, went on shouting, stood up and begun to run randomly around the house. It's the first time in my life that I came to know about one of my weaknesses. Second time, I literally would've died from short breathness.

People always ask me why I'm not scared of the dark. It's because I spend so much time in the dark to be afraid anymore,and when I'm outside at night I always remember the stars and moon can light the way. Not even trying to be inspirational,this is just why I'm not afraid.
