What? You mean a viscous "Sea Shanty" won't cut it? Ha ha.. just a joke from Texas..... Peace out... this is the best I've heard. Salonen is Tops in my book.
Salonen always searches out those unexpected dissonances, timbral clashes, surprises popping out all over. That he can so transform the sound of this familiar piece as to make it his own we have a new masterpiece: Debussy-Salonen's La Mer. Bring it on...
What a versatile and unconventional composer Debussy was ❗🌊🌸💮⛩️🎌 No performance is as interesting and intriguing and captivating as performance of La Mer This splendor of words can not arrive
It is Salonen who makes this orchestra sound so delicious. Velvet with sparkles. Salonen in Sibelius (3rd Symph) in Sweden: idem dito. I had forgotten how good he is. This is 'merveilleux, prodigieux, miraculeux'.'
Claude Debussy - La Mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre (Al mar, tre sclithade sinfoniche par orchestra) 00:25 I De l'aube à midi sur la mer (Da l'alba a mesdï sul mar) - Très Lent (Si minòur) 09:40 II Jeux de vagues (Duoghi de onde) - Allegro (Do diesis minòur) 17:18 III Dialogue du vent et de la mer (Ciacarada del vient e del mar) - Animé et Tumultueux (Do diesis minòur)
This masterpiece has the nostalgic scent of the sea Iam immersed in a dazzling sea of Debussy’s musical aesthetics and washed by waves of impression and comfort and pleasure 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

muslit I'll disagree respectfully. Although I will concede that this isn't his best version of it. He's recorded it three times (two live performances, and one studio recording with the LA Phil). They're definitely much better.
He's brilliant when making pieces his own. He conducts with such grace and passion. One is compelled to watch him.
Mais dieu que c est beau... On ferme les yeux.. On imagine et on se laisse transporter par cet immense chef d œuvre
La Mer looks great Turner’s seascape paintings
La Mer is unrivaled by any other sea music

Trumpet soloist’s sound is so soft and beautiful .
C'est toute la vraie nature impressionniste que j'entends, avec les parfums du romantisme dans les colères de la mer.
Wow! Amazing performance.
This is the definitive performance of Debussy's magnificent work.
His performance is always ellegant ‼

EXCELLENT INTERPRETATION OF THIS DEBUSSY'S MASTER PIECE. DIRECTOR PEKKA SALONEN

Look how far back the flautist's pinky bends back while he's holding the E flat key down. It's almost like a 90 degree angle.
That's wild. 😲😲😲

+Lüder v. Buxhoeveden & indeed, it is! What a finale the last 40 seconds of the first movement has!!
Lüder v. Buxhoeveden
A música de Debussy é pura magia!!! Nos leva ao mistério e mbriagando nossa alma!!! Excelente performance
The very highlight of human creation
thank you!
Sibelius wrote "Aallottaret" in 1914. I like very much "Aallottaret" and it´s very easy to like "La Mer" too.
Bravo! Bravissimo yes I would have shouted that too lol

Merci Giovanni pour ce Valery: magique, émouvant.
Comme aussi 'La Mer' de Debussy.
Bien association. Bien choix.
BRAVO
You rule over the majestic sea;
when its waves surge,
you calm them.
psalm 89:9
how do you get to grips with a piece like this!? I just gave up and let the sea rock and roll me...

nice....good tempo....Barenboim/CSO/Koln...La Mer was well done but the music didn't speak; the Finale did not come off..
Blah. Salonen is weak here. Rather uninspired. A totally inspired performance on youtube would be Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

Naah .. just another steamroller performance. This piece needs vigour and that is what we have here.
Bande son pas terrible du tout
