I don't see why they changed it. Illumination doesn't own the word. It only makes sense lore wise if they said "oh, since Megamind is a hero now, he thought the name Minion was too villainous, so he changed it to Chum".

Button of doom really should of been the sequel
It had the the perfect follow up plot of megamind trying to become a hero by copying metroman
If they make another sequel, they should actually call that one Megamind 2, get the original actors back and completely remove this from the canon story

It's not going to be like the Sonic movie. That had a budget between $85-90 million (and a lot of it wasn't animated).
This is the equivalent of a TV special and a TV show. I think Peacock was footing the bill because they're the ones who ordered it, along with several other extremely child-oriented shows like Dino Pops! and Babble Bop! Actually, if you just look at the list of what they ordered, it's obvious who the target audience for this is: "Abominable and the Invisible City" (another DW property that seems to be getting 0 backlash), Press Start!, Team Mekbots Animal Rescue and Dino Pops.
Basically, this was made FOR kids around kindergarten age. The only budget anyone ever saw posted for it seems to be $500k. Which also would have been spent to make the show as well.
Which makes it insane that people are mocking the extremely underpaid animators who did an INCREDIBLE job given the budget. They made a movie AND 16 episodes on that. Even if it's not perfectly accurate, we know they had a minuscule budget. Keep in mind that a cheaply made anime series is probably $90,000 to produce ONE episode. American animation is not only more expensive, but 3D animation is more expensive as well. It's one thing to complain that they weren't given a bigger budget. It's another to make fun of the people who worked on it, who put together a presentable project on pennies (and yes, it is presentable. The people comparing this to Foodfight! quality of animation are hyperbolic to ludicrous degrees. It looks just as good as similar projects for kids. The models are taken from the original movie, so it looks better in some cases. I watched the entire thing, and besides a few slips, there's nothing in there that would bother kids animation-wise. Kids aren't going through their cartoons frame by frame.)
It's not even Megamind 2. It's "Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate". "Megamind 2" would be the name of an actual theatrical release, most likely. They never called it "Megamind 2".
This is like buying a LeapFrog game and demanding it be like the latest AAA title. It's wildly different circumstances and expectations. While they might make "Megamind 2" eventually, it's only going to be if the numbers are there.
Ironically, the numbers might be there. I can only imagine how many people bought a Peacock subscription to watch "Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate" versus how many people paid to watch "Babble Bop!" or "Abominable and the Invisible City". People may have made this one of the most profitable kids' shows on their service. I guess we'll see in time. And hopefully, they do make "Megamind 2" eventually because I want to see Hot Flash, Psycho Delic, and Destruction Worker. The storyboards of them in the original movie were fun.

It would most likely be more of a Cinderella 2 case when that movie was hated so much they made a third movie that was a complete redo of the second movie but better (not saying Cinderella 3 was great but like better than the first sequel at least)

They forgot the original lore and premise.
- Megamind had no friends aside from minion.
- Minion was not named by Megamind, but his MOTHER. *Also said it was HIS minion, not his name. He was probably a FISH, that was the species of it. Minion*
-Roxanne and Megamind fell in LOVE by the end of the movie. She kissed him and everything. *Plus if they were.. Just complicated friends, she wouldn't have kept Titan's secret. I.e that MEGAMIND made him... If she did.... The city would NOT have pardoned him.. Like at ALL.*
Thankfully the lack of white cape, and mention of Metroman makes me fully believe the series and sequel take place in another universe entirely.
