So many versions of this drink! What is your favorite recipe for the white lady? Has anybody tried all of these? Maybe a video in the future on every version? Would that be even more confusing? Does it even matter in the grand scheme of it all? Are you still reading this?
I have a variation of it that i made that I love - "Blueberry Thyme White Lady" which uses a blueberry simple syrup in place of the regular, and adding drops of thyme tincture.
Your natural intuition for video content is terrific; your unique blend of history, booze pairings, spec choices, tasting notes, humor and Az interplay is very engaging. For me, I value discovering the decisions you apply to a cocktail's spec - honed over the years by countless trial and error as well as the best practices from other craftmen/women at Ward 8. There are always a few techniques, spirit options/pairings and spec alternatives you share that I find helpful as I mix cocktails at home for family and friends. Plus, I value learning about your favorite cocktails - after all the drinks you have served you've discovered good cocktails and great cocktails. Thanks for sharing your favorites. Your videos have helped me raise my home game. Keep doing what your doing.
I just tried your version right now while I'm teleworking LOL. OUTSTANDING!!!! Luckily I have the right ingredients. Awesome! Thank you... I'm a fan of Gin so its perfect for me. By the way, as a fellow Chicagoan what can we make with Malort? It's local, no one seems to know it outside Chicago, it originated in Pilsen... How Shh-caw-go can it get? Cheers
Will def try this soon. Probably this weekend. Question unrelated: can you help me understand how to use Amaretto in a way that isn’t too candy/medicine tasting. FYI I hate Dr. Pepper. Should I just avoid amaretto??
My dear friend. You're the kind of bartender who keeps the regulars coming back. I would gladly be a regular at any bar where you work, and I would never sit at the tables but always at the bar.
Thank you so much for this channel…I’m a new papa and my 11 week old has acid reflux and had the hardest time sleeping without being held…your videos taught me tons and helped me stay awake so I could hold my daughter while my wife slept. I promise someday to tell my kiddos how much you helped her. I’m hoping next time I’m in Chicago I can visit you at the bar and maybe even make you a drink you taught me to say thank you! Thank you
Thank you so much - congratulations on being a new dad! I really appreciate your comment, and happy you find the videos helpful. Cheers to you and your family!
Just made the Classic White Lady for my wife and it was a hit. We have had a “bush lemon” tree in our yard for over a decade and today it’s fruit became juice and then a cocktail - it will definitely happen again. Thanks Anders, my first cocktail with an egg white. Not only am I reading your comments and viewing the videos, I’m following your recipes.
I just made a couple of these, and I think this might be my new favorite summer cocktail. It's simple, refreshing, and luxurious all at the same time thanks to the egg white. Unless you're vegan, I strongly recommend folks add the egg white. It gives body and structure to the cocktail and lends it that special umph. Thanks Anders!
Back in 1990s San Francisco, we drank the egg-less version of the white lady, the Delilah. Sooooooooo good. I'm going to have to try both recipes now, Anders; they sound fantastic.
Started watching the channel recently, really loving it. Giving me alot of good options and tips for building up my home bar. Keep up the great content
I was recommended your channel recently, and damn. There is something about your personality, style, and presentation that I really enjoy. Your videos are amazing. I think you're giving me the motivation I need to start making some cocktails.
Started to watch this channel a few weeks ago. I’m working as a barman in Rome and you’re giving me so many great tips ! Love how you work and how you present the story of any cocktail you make ! Great work
Just found your channel yesterday and subscribed right away! Keep up the good work! And thank you for including the metric units as well, helps a lot for us folks in Europe :)
Yes, more of these comparisons to old versions please. Really neat to get cocktail history with the current recipe. And congrats to successful channel growth. It was just yesterday when it was less than 4k subscribers. Well done you both. 👍
Something I've been wanting to comment: I really appreciate that you have a robust "playlist" where you group the different types of cocktails. Really makes it easy for me to find something if I'm looking for a Gin cocktail or something. I would love it if you started a "morning cocktail" playlist and then I would also love it if you had a "clean" cocktail playlist. The clean one would include gin/vodka (or other alcohols not high in sugars) that don't add sugar to them. I'm sure there are an abundant of cocktails like this, and I would love to see you introduce some (maybe you already have?). Anyway, love your videos, thank you.
The original recipe definitely doesn’t sound like my kind of Sunday in the park. Since you ended up digging it, I wanna try it but I feel like it would probably rock served over crushed ice and a sprig of mint.
So good! My new favorite cocktail. Thanks! I replaced Plymouth dry gin with the more herbal/floral Barr Hill gin from Vermont, and replaced simple with Maple Syrup for a "Vermont Lady". Delicious!
Just made this (the standard version, without the egg), after impulse buying a little bottle of Cointreau then googling what I can make with what I have. I expected it to taste like a citrus martini, but you really don’t get the gin at all. Deceptively (or dangerously) non-alcohol tasting. I like it. It’s going in my repertoire.
I think this might have been the first video of yours I saw. I've finally gotten off my bum and made some creme de menthe (because it's not that easy to get it around here). Your description of the "Old" white lady is spot on. It's really lovely. But exactly what you said: mint on the nose, the orange is really subtle, the lemon is important. Great balance. Nice drink!
Loving the classic! This is my go to! Also....love your videos. I'm now stocking up my bar and trying many of your recipes, trying my hand at the twirly lemon rind string (no idea what it's called - like a telephone cord). But seriously, I do appreciate your videos and all of the information you impart. Love learning new things! Thanks again!!
I’ve been watching your videos for days now and just ordered the complete Anders accoutrements from you links. I’m so excited to start following along with your cocktails. I’ve been an old fashioned guy for some time so time to expand my horizons
Startled the daylights out of people in my house by shouting "YES" when you mentioned Cointreau instead of Triple Sec. This was one of, if not the first, gin cocktails I ever made. We had a very limited selection then, but still managed to have Cointreau as one of the mixers. I still use it as a bit of a gauge for new gins.
Most of the time in cocktails calling for triple sec or Cointreau I’ve been using Solerno… blood orange liqueur… adds a very smooth and classy element to the orange!
Hey Anders, found your channel a couple of months ago and i really enjoy your content. A little history of the drink with a very likeable presentation of the ingredients (booze) and how to build the desired cocktail. Keep it up! The recent growth of your channel is well deserved! Cheers from Germany
Just made the modern version... it is wonderful! I had an open bottle of Tanqueray, but I also have an "Old Sport" gin from Greece, which has hints of mastic (an aromatic resin from mastic trees, which only grow on the island of Chios - pronounced "Hee-os")... I cannot wait to try it, it should fit really well in the mix.
This drink is INCREDIBLE!!! I made two for myself and it has made this dreary, cold, Sunday night in Michigan just delightful! Thank you for making my night and I'm sure some of my friends nights as well! Cheers, Anders!
Your channel is so underrated man. It is pretty cool. I don't really drink, maybe once or twice a year, but I love watching these videos. Keep up the good work. The production is pretty good as well.
You’re channel has exploded since I last looked - congratulations from NZ! My first batch of your Orgeat Syrup recipe has finally gone mouldy, so I need to watch that video again. And make more Mai Tai...
The original cocktail was a miss for me, but your version was absolutely outstanding! My wife loved the original, however. I'm a huge fan of Whisky Sours, so I expected to like last week's cocktail (Artist's Special), but I hated it. I couldn't find currant to make groseille, so I had to use homemade grenadine. Maybe that's why? It had sort of a tomato juice vibe, which is probably why I didn't care for it. Still the best cocktail channel on RUclips! Congrats on all the new subs, Anders-well deserved! When you hit 5 million, I can say I "knew" you when you only had 3k. Keep the great videos coming!
Thank you so much! I'm happy you were able to try both recipes - a version for each of you. I'm very curious about the Artist's Special you made though - maybe it could've been the sherry? I'm sorry to hear you had a "tomato juice" experience!
@@AndersErickson I picked up a bottle of Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos Sherry just for this cocktail, so the sherry was on point. I'm going to keep my eyes open for currant or groseille, and I promise to give it another try when I do! Thanks so much to you and Az for these awesome videos-I'm learning a ton from y'all.
I was literally just about to search for some good "egg white" cocktails (besides the classic whiskey sour) and I wanted something light and refreshing for summer. This video could not have come out at a better time! Keep going an amazing job on your channel!
Found your ESSENTIAL spirits video just today and have greatly enjoyed the other content I’ve watched including this one! Happy I stumbled on your channel!!
I'd tried a couple of variations now on the White Lady (1930 version), and was about ready to give up on it. (Vague, flavours didn't really pop) your blend for it is the first one we have liked. The 1919 cocktail is weird as all get out....but oddly tasty. 🤷 Thanks!
You have awesome energy dude! I try to picture myself trying to exude a fraction of that and it makes me tired. 😆 Your passion is contagious. It makes us viewers passionate about something we love too. You deserve every sub you get. 😉

Great content and videography as always! 🥂

Mr Anders! I wanted to tell you that I love your channel! It is full of flair, class and it is light and fun. I want to create a bar that has a spin on whisky recipes here in my city with touches of brazillian flavours, like rapadura and pitanga, and you are a big inspiration to me. Thank you for your videos!
Just started watching your videos. Love the way you educate without looking like a snoody bartender lol....we've all been there. I subscribed - thanks for the vids!
Är du svensk? Your name is so swedish. Happy I found your channel, I am a new subscriber. Liking the "elegant" style of the video. It is elegant without being snotty
I love your videos man! I found you recently and have loved your content, and it seems like a lot more people have done the same. Hopefully a lot more people hear about your channel, because you deserve it man!
Stopped the video immediately after you tasted the first one (classic) to go make it... YUM! Never had one before and this was awesome!! I'll try the original as soon as I can get my hands on some high quality creme de menthe! Thanks so much for the great and entertaining videos!!
For fun try making two identical cocktails wit grocery store egg white and farm fresh organic egg white. It’s amazing the difference that old school cocktails were from what we make now.
Hi, just started watching the last couple weeks. I thoroughly enjoy your channel, very informative. Question; for cocktails with egg white which is better dry shake 1st or reverse dry shake. Curious cause I've heard the reverse foams better?
Hello Thank you for sharing, I also learned more about this cocktail. Yesterday I had some disagreements when discussing this cocktail with my friend. In which book did Harry MacElhone change the ‘creme de menthe’ in the recipe to gin? I found out that Harry MacElhone bought ‘New York Bar’ in Paris in 1923 and renamed it ‘Harry’s New York Bar’. 1923 《Harry of Ciros's ABC of mixing cocktails》page P77, the ‘White Lady's’ recipe is still ---creme de menthe1/6, cointreau2/3, brandy1/6, unchanged. My English is not very good. I tried my best to express my question. I look forward to your reply, thank you.
I tried my 1st white lady tonight - hahhaaaa. Funny I watched this, then after I had a gin n tonic the bartender suggested a white lady. I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously it was the newer version - gin forward. Thanks for expanding my horizons.
I think if, in the classic recipe, you replace the lemon juice with half-and-half lemon and orange you get a cocktail called "the maiden's prayer", which takes the bite off the lemon without the need of simple syrup.
Hey Anders love your channel. Original recipe kind of reminds me of a kamikaze. Love trying new recipes and enjoy listening to your experiences. Cheers!
Thanks, Andy! The small bottles I use were repurposed - I don't remember what was in them initially. There are similar bottles online if you search "woozy bottles" or "mini wine bottles." Good luck!
Cointreau is a great middle of the road orange liqueur for people or bars that want to cut down on their number of bottles or confusion for new bartenders. Great video, great drink.
Randomly saw your channel! You are amazing! I love the comparison between then and now for different drinks. Just a question, if I want to learn (from the scratch) to making proper cocktails, where should I start? Is there courses that you would recommend or you went through?
Depending where you are, different courses might be offered for bartending. I'd recommend looking up some classic recipes that interest you, buy a couple of bottles, and experiment at home with substitutions and differences in ratios (that's what I did). If you want to learn more about the techniques, you might want to consider a part time job as a bar back in a cocktail bar - no better way to learn than by getting a feel for service while picking the brains of those mixing. Hope this helps and good luck!
@@AndersErickson Thanks for the advice, I love the history of cocktails as much as the drinks themselves, but I have no experience in bartending xD Part timing is an option but I wonder if there's some real beginner course or videos that you would recommend! (or make xD).
I don't appreciate only finding out about you yesterday! Beautiful inside and out. I've learned so much from you! Can't do eggs any way but fully cooked so I will try the aquafaba one if I'm feeling more frisky than usual.
Sara, I hate eggs (exception for some egg white cocktails), but some companies make great foamers like "Ms Betters Miraculous Foamer" is an excellent egg white/aquafaba substitute
I do find it interesting that in the uk a cocktail bar is seen as a higher class bar with most others only having one or 2 different cocktails, while it seems that in the us every bar does cocktails
I wouldn't normally drink cocktails but I have been binge reading Agatha Christie where everyone seems to drink a lot so I thought I'd give it a try. I surprised myself by really liking the white lady! Cheers!

My drink making equipment arrived today (definitely bought the stuff you recommended in your video).
Excited to start following these recipes!
Yes! It's a good day then - happy mixing!
Mr Anders! I wanted to tell you that I love your channel! It is full of flair, class and it is light and fun. I want to create a bar that has a spin on whisky recipes here in my city with touches of brazillian flavours, like rapadura and pitanga, and you are a big inspiration to me. Thank you for your videos!
Thank you so much, Leonardo! I wish you all the best with your your bar - it sounds like a wonderful concept! Cheers!
I just tried making THE CLASSIC WHITE LADY RECIPE. It's absolutely delightful. Will definitely need to make again for my wife and friends.
Thanks, Logan! Cheers to you!
Just made both of these and the original recipe surprised me as well. Two completely different drinks, but both lovely.
Stopped the video immediately after you tasted the first one (classic) to go make it... YUM! Never had one before and this was awesome!! I'll try the original as soon as I can get my hands on some high quality creme de menthe! Thanks so much for the great and entertaining videos!!
Thanks, Gene! I'm so happy you enjoyed the cocktail!
For fun try making two identical cocktails wit grocery store egg white and farm fresh organic egg white. It’s amazing the difference that old school cocktails were from what we make now.
You have a very binge-able channel. I've never heard of the White Lady, but will try it. The lineages of these old drinks are fascinating.
Thank you so much! I'm happy you're enjoying the videos. I hope you enjoy this drink - cheers!
I haven't met a ton of cocktails that I do not like, this is one of them.
Hi, just started watching the last couple weeks. I thoroughly enjoy your channel, very informative. Question; for cocktails with egg white which is better dry shake 1st or reverse dry shake. Curious cause I've heard the reverse foams better?
Making this at ten am . Refreshing
Tried this last night. Fantastic! Almost like a gin version of a whiskey sour.
Hello
Thank you for sharing, I also learned more about this cocktail.
I look forward to your reply, thank you.
the first new video since i subscribed... many to come. Ill try your version soon.
Welcome! Thanks for the sub - Cheers!
I tried my 1st white lady tonight - hahhaaaa. Funny I watched this, then after I had a gin n tonic the bartender suggested a white lady. I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously it was the newer version - gin forward. Thanks for expanding my horizons.
Loving the metric measurements in brackets for us Rest of Worlders. Cheers.
I think if, in the classic recipe, you replace the lemon juice with half-and-half lemon and orange you get a cocktail called "the maiden's prayer", which takes the bite off the lemon without the need of simple syrup.
finished drinking your take on it. A very good drink, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for giving it a try, Nathan! Glad you enjoyed it - cheers to you!
Thank you for another great video! Anders, what cocktail recipe book would you recommend to a complete novice as a first purchase?
There are so many good recipe books to choose from, but one of my first was The Savoy Cocktail Book - a classic I often refer back to. Cheers, Aaron!
@@AndersErickson Thanks! I’ve seen you reference that one several times in your videos. Just didn’t know if it would be beyond a noob! 😉
Hey Anders love your channel. Original recipe kind of reminds me of a kamikaze. Love trying new recipes and enjoy listening to your experiences. Cheers!
Love the videos! Can you share where you get your glass bottles and pourers for your juices?
Thanks, Andy! The small bottles I use were repurposed - I don't remember what was in them initially. There are similar bottles online if you search "woozy bottles" or "mini wine bottles." Good luck!
Substituting Dillon’s Maison Selby Pineapple Honey Gin and Real Quebec maple syrup for the simple syrup. A nice tropical take on it.
Beautiful. And I have all the ingredients so I can make one tonight! Cheers!
Wonderful, Moshe! Enjoy your cocktail - cheers!
Amazing video as always
Cheers to you, Rafael! 🥃
I wonder if the "1919" White Lady would be good with the egg white also?
That's a great question, Marc. Only one way to find out!
Great drink!!! Made the Classic!!!
And, garnished with.... a homemade marshmallow!!!
So delicious!!!
[... a gin lemon drop w/ egg white?!]
Cointreau is a great middle of the road orange liqueur for people or bars that want to cut down on their number of bottles or confusion for new bartenders. Great video, great drink.
I agree - Cointreau is a great option!
Great content. Love the recipes and the history lessons. I'll be waiting for you to drop your own recipe book...😉😉
Thanks, Alex! I like the way you think. Cheers!
Great vid Anders, I'll be adding your version to my repertoire:)
Thanks, Stefan! Hope you enjoy this one - cheers!
Congrats on reaching 50k subs!
Thank you so much! Cheers! 🥃
this video is amazing i really want to try both
Wait.. weren't you at like 10'000 subs like a week ago?? I mean you deserve every single sub, but wow! Cheers and keep up the good work!
Haha thanks, Federico! The last couple weeks have been busy. Glad you're here and appreciate the support!
Can i make it a green lady if i don't have white creme de menthe? will the green one make a significant difference in the taste?
Of the 3 white Lady recipes I’ve tried today. Yours is the best. I also tried it third, so that might be it😉
Randomly saw your channel!
Great video :) you should make a video about the must bottle to have a home to create a home bar :) everything you need like you do :)
I don't appreciate only finding out about you yesterday! Beautiful inside and out. I've learned so much from you!
Can't do eggs any way but fully cooked so I will try the aquafaba one if I'm feeling more frisky than usual.
Thank you so much, Sara - I'm happy you're here! The aquafaba in this drink will be perfect. Cheers!
Sara, I hate eggs (exception for some egg white cocktails), but some companies make great foamers like "Ms Betters Miraculous Foamer" is an excellent egg white/aquafaba substitute
Do you suggest using a low (30pf) or high (80pf) triple sec?
I do find it interesting that in the uk a cocktail bar is seen as a higher class bar with most others only having one or 2 different cocktails, while it seems that in the us every bar does cocktails
My favorite!!! The first drink you made me that I sent back. Remember?? And I never left!
😂 I do remember - you know what you like! Cheers, Lea!
@@AndersErickson you're the best!!!
The White Lady is one of my go to cocktails, but I'm gonna give the original a shot now (never even heard of it before this vid).
I wouldn't normally drink cocktails but I have been binge reading Agatha Christie where everyone seems to drink a lot so I thought I'd give it a try. I surprised myself by really liking the white lady! Cheers!
A White Lady in Ireland was whiskey and 7up! Lol. One of my favorite combos! Dang, now I’m dying for one! 😢
