    • @court2379
      @court2379 Год назад +10

      There are dozens of types of seals, orings, PTFE vee rings, sprung elastomers, leather, labyrinth seals (torturous path), solid carbon seals (very tight clearances at high temps), little pumping turbines that hold back the leakage, packing glands with various packing materials. Packing glands, orings and elastomers are most common.
      They are leaving out why magnetic couplings are not usually used. They slip, which means there is not positive control between each side (at least most of them, it would be possible to make one that only slips on over load). The slipping also means it is not very efficient losing a large amount of energy to heat. They are also extremely expensive.
      So they are only used in applications where the hazard due to a leak is extreme, or no other solution really works. Very caustic materials for instance. They have limited higher temperature use because the heat ruins the magnets, though maybe an electromagnet-eddy current design could be made to work at higher temps.
      These things all require custom engineering making them expensive.
      What seal is selected depends on many things. The speed of the shaft, it's material, the sealed fluid/material, the temperature, service intervals, the hazard of the sealed material, how it is to be serviced, cost, among other things. That covers the most common considerations.

A piston or a suspension are both "ghost pieces" that have no collision, which means if you need a through shaft (a part that does not exist in that game) you would make such "magnetic coupler" connecting two shafts using a piston.

Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

    Thank you for the video, I've been wondering about magnetic couplers for a while now and always wondered how they can transfer torque.
    Edit:
    I wish it went a bit deeper into the types of magnetic couplers and compared them, there were only advantages and disadvantages on the axial magnetic coupler.
    What about the radial one?
    Are there electromagnetic couplers?

    • @ahobimo732
      @ahobimo732 Год назад +1

      I've never seen an example of an electromagnetic coupler, but in theory there's no reason it couldn't be done.
      It might be a rather complicated and bulky coupling, but it's definitely possible. Just replace the permanent magnets with electromagnets.
      It's quite an interesting concept, actually. It would give you the ability to adjust the coupling force by adjusting the strength of the electromagnet.
      But of course the disadvantage is that the coupling would require constant current in order to function.

    interesting topics but it is made supeficially: i am thinking to use it on water pump on car as rpm/torque regulator and energy saver: as engines rpm rises, and water pump rpm rises and after some rpm pump makes cavitation and coolant flow makes too much resistance but no gain on cooling and it needs high power , so goal is to hold pump rpm on some 4000 even if engine rpm rises over 4000rpm, so in coupler must happen slipping because difference of rpm between input and output shaft of coupler and question is do i really save any energy or it goes into heat in coupler
