I worked in industrial enviroment and i never saw magnetic coupling. Usually they use rubber gaskets, they last very long time if installed correctly, and very reliable if replaced regularly.
There are dozens of types of seals, orings, PTFE vee rings, sprung elastomers, leather, labyrinth seals (torturous path), solid carbon seals (very tight clearances at high temps), little pumping turbines that hold back the leakage, packing glands with various packing materials. Packing glands, orings and elastomers are most common. They are leaving out why magnetic couplings are not usually used. They slip, which means there is not positive control between each side (at least most of them, it would be possible to make one that only slips on over load). The slipping also means it is not very efficient losing a large amount of energy to heat. They are also extremely expensive. So they are only used in applications where the hazard due to a leak is extreme, or no other solution really works. Very caustic materials for instance. They have limited higher temperature use because the heat ruins the magnets, though maybe an electromagnet-eddy current design could be made to work at higher temps. These things all require custom engineering making them expensive. What seal is selected depends on many things. The speed of the shaft, it's material, the sealed fluid/material, the temperature, service intervals, the hazard of the sealed material, how it is to be serviced, cost, among other things. That covers the most common considerations.
Though it's still not so common. The method we saw in the beginning is still used on huge scale, doesn't cause any problem Though. Works even fine for high pressure reactors (Personal Experience).
@@SabinCivil You can also ask in one of your videos if someone has experience with this and can help you! Maybe they can setup an online shop, design the apparel, etc. This channel MUST NOT DIE.
Could be connected with reduction and multiplying gears, still working with the air gap and soft metal in between as a weak link to break in excessive overload.
If you even played Scrap Mechanic you would probably find out a similar design. A piston or a suspension are both "ghost pieces" that have no collision, which means if you need a through shaft (a part that does not exist in that game) you would make such "magnetic coupler" connecting two shafts using a piston.

Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.
This is a phenomenal advice for a new stock traders and investors who want that quick short term game, but don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

First! Thank you for the video, I've been wondering about magnetic couplers for a while now and always wondered how they can transfer torque. Edit: I wish it went a bit deeper into the types of magnetic couplers and compared them, there were only advantages and disadvantages on the axial magnetic coupler. What about the radial one? Are there electromagnetic couplers?
I've never seen an example of an electromagnetic coupler, but in theory there's no reason it couldn't be done. It might be a rather complicated and bulky coupling, but it's definitely possible. Just replace the permanent magnets with electromagnets. It's quite an interesting concept, actually. It would give you the ability to adjust the coupling force by adjusting the strength of the electromagnet. But of course the disadvantage is that the coupling would require constant current in order to function.
This channel is really amazing but the only one this to worry is there is no regular videos.......my wish is give regular video.....atleast 2 to 3 videos per week
Why would you need a magnetic coupling on a motor? It is already a magnetic coupler between the armature and field coils. If a motor is overloaded you handle that electronically.
great video as always. if I may ask, why is lesics in financial trouble? I would think a channel with over 6m subscribers would be making good money and could be self-reliant and am concerned there was mishandling of finances that led to this point. curious to better understand. thanks!

Hello, Nice work. What is the maximum output torque you think can be obtained out of these magentic gears? What would be the weight of that magnetic gear set then? Regards, Sam
they use these for the reactor control rods on US nuclear subs no? that way they can eliminate thru-holes and the radiation leakage problems they create.
interesting topics but it is made supeficially: i am thinking to use it on water pump on car as rpm/torque regulator and energy saver: as engines rpm rises, and water pump rpm rises and after some rpm pump makes cavitation and coolant flow makes too much resistance but no gain on cooling and it needs high power , so goal is to hold pump rpm on some 4000 even if engine rpm rises over 4000rpm, so in coupler must happen slipping because difference of rpm between input and output shaft of coupler and question is do i really save any energy or it goes into heat in coupler

i think electric car doesn't need clutch, sole purpose of clutch is to keep engine running while stationary and spinning motor while idle isn't efficient. besides i think you pertains to fluid coupler used in automatic.
Shouldn’t someone be worried about electric charge buildup while using the eddy current? Can a grounding device be used to discharge the buildup of a current?
But wouldn’t it be easier or the motor be the coupler itself? So that the rotor is the mixer part itself, and the stator coils are the fixedly parts on the outsides :) b
