  • This is an initial review and demonstration of my 2023 Forest River Ibex 19QTH. It's a toy hauler that you can tow with a 1/2 ton truck. I'm using a 2023 Toyota Tundra to pull this one. It is the perfect size for my small family and has all the creature comforts you could want. It's not the biggest garage space, but you can easily fit a few dirt bikes, an ATV, or a golf cart / small SxS vehicle. A lot of people buy these and convert the garage into a large living room too. I really like the patio and awning. The solar panel and chargers on these units keep getting better and better too.

    I fit a Honda 1000 pioneer in this trailer. I had to let some air out of the tires to get it in height wise. It was a tight fit but it fit. Hauled it to Wyoming from Louisiana.

    Fantastic review. I was debating about how big that couch is to sleep on. I have a 12 yr old and seems like it will work just fine!

    I was looking specifically for the Tandem Axle Enclosed Cargo Trailer conversion and came across your earlier video as it is a project I'm excited about. But now, after just a few months, such a big upgrade. Can you talk a little about the Cargo Trailer use and how that worked for you? Any issues other than needing more space for family? Thnx.

      Hey Justin, sure thing. Literally the only reason I upgraded to this more expensive toy hauler was because of my family needs. My wife loves to camp, no doubt, but definitely appreciates the more comfortable setup with a bathroom inside. It is also extremely helpful for taking our little baby camping to remote places where we boondock. The camper trailer conversion was an amazing setup for just me, or say, for a group that doesn't mind it a little bit more rugged. It was SO much cheaper, lighter weight, and it actually held more machines. I honestly miss that thing as it was perfect for me and my style of camping. Plus I could have continued making some upgrades to it as needed. But now with this new toy hauler, my wife is willing to go more often, so I'll take it! I honestly loved my old setup very much and only got to use it a few times.

    Any problems with the trailer now that you've owned it for a year? Read in forums about some pretty bad experiences like a gap between the fender well and the wall with light visible through from the inside, shelving coming loose due to too small of screws/staples, door coming open while driving because the striker plate was screwed in, but there was no hole made for the actual latch to go into, etc.
    This trailer checks off every box for me, but I'm holding back due to build quality concerns.
    Couple other quick questions, does the A/C only run on shore power and do the wall plugs have power 24/7, mainly to run a CPAP at night?

      @ThomperBeThompin  26 дней назад +1

      @@Harry_Ballsonya I haven't had any issues with it so far. I have had to screw in one panel that came a little loose but it was no big deal and took 5 seconds. It is holding super secure now. Keep in mind, I do not abuse this thing at all and I try my best to take good care of it. It is, at the end of the day, a tiny apartment that you are pulling down the bouncy highways all the time, so some repairs here and there is pretty normal. I upgraded the battery system and actually made a video about that, but yes you can run a CPAP all night off the Wall outlets. You just have to make sure you have enough battery capacity to do it. In fact, my brother-in-law is camping with me in a couple months in this thing and we will run his CPAP with it all night.

    Is the towing experience better with a 7' wide trailer vs the wide ones? I wish they made this one shorter because 24' is still long..

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  Год назад +2

      I unfortunately live in a fairly congested area with a lot of traffic, so a narrower trailer makes for a little less stressful driving on the interstate around here. I think technically an 8 ft wide trailer might be more stable but probably not by too much.

      @@ThomperBeThompin would you feel comfortable towing it up Cumberland pass? ruclips.net/video/MCHUetCi4dA/видео.html
      Ive been looking for a 7' wide trailer because it's not much wider than my full size truck so I can drive up roads like this..

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  Год назад +1

      @@MrRerod personally I would feel perfectly fine towing this up that road. Just take your time around the corners and look out for any low branches. Assuming you have quality tires on the tow vehicle, it should be fine. Maybe not everyone would feel comfortable in those conditions. My wife and I took one of our older 4Runners through some crazy trails in Utah and Colorado. We did Black Bear Pass so I'm pretty comfortable on shelf roads. Just have to be smart, take er easy, and respect physics lol

    Is it possible to fit 2 atv’s in the garage? An atv is 6’Lx4’w

      No it won't work. My Yamaha Grizzly, generator, and full size bike are a tight fit back there. but it works solidly.

      There's always this option: ruclips.net/video/1b3vuK3J18I/видео.html
      It's a fraction of the cost of a factory toy hauler and get's the job done. I really liked mine, but had to upgrade for the wife and our baby. Otherwise, I would have kept they old setup I had. It fit WAAAAY more stuff, two ATVs easily. Just another option to consider.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  8 месяцев назад

      Anywhere from 9 at the worst to 12.5 at the best towing this Ibex. It would do better on average towing a small ATV trailer.

    900 lb tongue weight only leaves you 500 lbs in the truck so 2 people & full tank of gas you're over

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  4 месяца назад +1

      It's definitely a bit close, but payload figures account for a full tank of gas. Between my wife and I we have an additional 200lbs of payload for gear inside the truck. Plus, I measured the tongue weight with all my gear, ATV, dirt bike, and generator loaded into the toy hauler, it was only 700-750, so there's 650-700 for us and our gear inside the truck when towing all our toys. Not too bad, but I certainly would appreciate another 200-400lbs of payload. I wish Toyota would build a HD truck. I'd be first in line!

    • @jimf1450
      @jimf1450 4 месяца назад

      @ThomperBeThompin you're right about fuel, payload is only a calculation of GVWR-actual weight which depending on exact options & scaled weight could change. Probably worth putting on a Cat scale to see where you're at. I have a Sherline scale which is pretty helpful with load placement.
