The dent is my favorite thing about this one. Currently it’s this treasured artifact, but I love the idea of it being loaned out, hefted around, and truly being used as a tool back in its day.
in the middle of London with all that light pollution and such a small diameter it'll look worse than just the camera they use to film this series pointed up
I hope there's a translation project or something for all that handwriting. It looks beautiful, but I find it very hard to understand. Keith seems to have no trouble with it. 😀
From my very ignorant search online of "tycho brahe quadrant," I wonder if the telescope was mounted to literally a quadrant of a circle to indicate and measure where the telescope was pointing.
I wonder what the odds are that Brady travelled back in time and nicked all those instruments to bring back for future Objectivity videos... probably pretty slim, since he can't read the handwriting in the charters without Keith's help. Although they might've worked out a deal where Keith gets credit for mysteriously "rediscovering" the Society's treasures... I'll keep my eyes peeled and my mouth shut, don't you worry guys.
I found two old animal skin tubes with lenses in them and put them in the rubbish that got taken away this past Thursday. Whoops! Should have watched this one sooner.
Does the Royal Society have any of the scientific instruments made by Sir Horace Darwin? Wouldn’t mind a video on him, but I suppose he’s a bit obscure these days.
What would an instrument like that be worth on the open market these days? I think something with five zero's behind it, if not more given its history and provenance.

Like a brand new car. Dents make things better
Yeah, that dent is really going to bring down the value. I'll give you $150. I mean, I'm going to have to make my money back.
Keith Moore, head librarian, here at the Royal Society 🔥🔥
Another gorgeous looking thing, I hear.
@@cwtrain ☺
Objectivity videos never fail to lift my mood!
Indeed
Best channel on RUclips
Definitely agree!
Happy day! Still objectivity in 2021!
Tea break, what watch ah Brady has posted another video.
Always interesting.
Thanks to Keith also.
I think there are two of the.
Nothing to say but I absolutely respect and am thankful they exist.
That thing looks interesting. Optics are always cool. Looking forward to finishing this one!
A beautiful object for sure!
Royal Society Instrument #78? Well that begs the question what is Instrument #1?
This channel is very charming, I think I’ll stick around.
Plenty for you to catch up on.
Beautiful artifact
Bradley Haran and Gorgeous Keith Moore!
Keith, you gorgeous-looking thing!
We've seen the archives where they keep books and papers.. where do they keep the actual objects? Is there a giant warehouse?
Are they still in “various storehouses”? Hopefully they’re more organised now, though.
Keith's home basement.
And here I was already proud of my 14-inch telescope......
can we get a vid of observations though this telescope?

Yeeees! Another Keith episode! :D
Keith is wonderful
Keith not knowing how to process that complement.
You make me turn into a telescope😎
Bradley Haran showing us Bradley's observations? Invaluable. Truly the best channel on RUclips, love from Bulgaria
Bradley... is that a Matt Parker reference?
@@_rlb pretty sure that his is real name
@@wierdalien1 it's not and you missed the joke :)
@@_rlb its at the end of humble pi 😂 makes more sense now

What do they mean by a "quadrant" in this context?
From my very ignorant search online of "tycho brahe quadrant," I wonder if the telescope was mounted to literally a quadrant of a circle to indicate and measure where the telescope was pointing.
Quick! Someone paint him doing a back flip!
To restore or to revere; the dent!
Oehhhh, I work in astronomy these days (software wise), so this even more cool to see than otherwise. :)

I'm a little surprised that Great Britain used feet and inches (at the time).
It seems that the maker of this telescope died 20 years before the metric system was standardized.
A 4 light-nanosecond long telescope ;-)
Damn he really just hit on Keith

I see 3 legs but don't see the 4 feet? *confused look*
Yer lookin' rite at'em.
FourFEET! (Lord of the Rings, anyone? 🤣)

You'll have to knock some of the zeroes off because of the dent.
@@Depressed_Dinosaur Ah yes. Condition: used ^^
