I think the pinnacle of live performances of this song was done on the 1973 Japan Lotus tour. Talk about a magical moment in time! A stellar performance!
Agreed 💯. And this was not that. This was beautiful and soothing as improvisational jazz, I just far prefer the classic song structure with the double speed section at the end, such amazing tension and climax.
so many of his album's vie for best ... but for me it is Lotus. i lived in the U.K. at the time of release and bought it the week it came out ... i guess 74/75 ... gotta love that huge fold-out sleeve of the vinyl!! boy they were jamming hot on the album ...
Love, devotion, and surrender are what has transposed Carlos to a higher plane of musical enlightment. He has been my musical Supreme hero since I discovered his music 50 years ago. God bless you, Carlos, for giving us guts and grace!
there a many guitarists.... there are guitarists when we hear them on the radio...... they have signature sounds ....and we know who they are.......... Santana is one of these guitarists
LOVE the 'slow jam" starting on 5:20 mostly...love this to the maxxxxxx..Santana has some very sexy tunes / Samba Pa Ti another fav... Everything Is coming Our Way my all time Santana Fav's.!! Orgasmic.
There are guitarists that can play circles around him....but nobody recognizes them or knows their names. Carlos is recognized anywhere in the world. Only one note....and you know, that's Carlos.
Looks are deceiving the way he phrases riffs especially the classics are unmatched there's been better faster technique with all kinds of effects but to each your own he does less and makes more one of my top 5
I think, that the best performance of this song, is done by the original band. Santana , the original band, should get together again and release the leftover songs, recorded for the Santana IV album.
The original members playing IAN is amazing. Their chemistry just flowed. It was a total jam with passion, soul and groove. Though it may be good, it pales in comparison. ruclips.net/video/s-s2uFgMRjA/видео.html
Huh? Why would he go and not do the piano buildup part after the quiet solo?? It's a magnificent transition. Why discard it? Was watching and waiting and it never happened.
Yes exactly... The man's a genius and has every right to go a different way this time or anytime... But I agree with you, and of course he knew damn well he'd be trolling his long time Santana fans by giving us the always unique & gripping tension of that slow buildup of signature Carlos bending long notes punctuated by brilliant bongos and congas.... where we absolutely follow the timing, anxiously awaiting those two inimicable notes that usher in the epic release and sheer delight of one of the most beautifully melodic keyboard compositions in the entire Carlos catalog... ... Only to this time confound our expectations and deny us that gorgeous pleasure and climax, replacing it instead with a much longer and yes beautifully performed jazz improvisation trading off keyboards and guitar... but never quite building to a peak before it ultimately resolves into a rather standard "slow down the music" artificial ending.
I’m Santana fan number one but his new people nothing will be like their beginner ones t This one is our leftovers from the original ones good ones sorry to say that Santana but I’m just song is speaking the truth
NO! Just no, Carlos! As always you play beautifully with unexpected improvisation, but as much as I like the idea of an extended jazz interpretation, you cut the whole Latin rhythm out of it and ruined the coolest part of the song, where it gears up from very slow to a much faster pace, it's one of the all-time greatest and most beautiful segments people have been enjoying for so many decades.
The studio version is so much more smokier. This loses its intimacy performed as it is here. I rather put on my headphones and enjoy it the way it was originally recorded.
Lotus and his other albums from his jazz/rock era such as Caravanserai were probably his biggest musical breakthrough. Heck, Lotus is one of the best albums of the 70s. He was making history back then. You can't expect him to reinvent the wheel every time he does a tour. Plus he's 72 now. He has nothing to prove. He's a legend.
with each passing day i realize more and more the quality of the music of the 70's. This song is healing.

Concuerdo.
The Lotus version is still my favorite of any song by anyone at any time. That one is musical perfection.
The San Francisco Fillmore West version is great too. It’s shorter, but it’s one of Carlos’ most tasteful solos
If you're talking about the performance with the Wayne Shorter Band! It's on here, a 19 minute version! That's the best one, I've heard!
My favourite Santana track. Still love my Lotus album as well.
I agree. His Lotus album was his best.
Oh yeah, Yours is the Light from Lotus is tied with this for my favorite thing Santana ever did

always love carlos since woodstock but my favorite magic was always the first 3 albums you cant beat the magic that is the way it goes.
No other sound ever like yours... ever! Great, Unique keep surprising us
Bless you more
Love from Africa 🙏❤❤❤
1973年7月6日、日本武道館でライブを観ました。50年前の記憶が甦り感無量です。サンタナありがとう!
there a many guitarists.... there are guitarists when we hear them on the radio...... they have signature sounds ....and we know who they are.......... Santana is one of these guitarists
A masterpiece. My favorite part starts at 5:01
I feel the same about this song. This part is so incredibly gentle in every version of this song, is the best
Realmente
Оригинальная блюзовая композиция очень непохожая на. Все остальные
Miles Davis said this tune was his favorite rock composition.
Check out the version live from Japan (1972) on the album Lotus. And Every Step of the Way.
A Legend !! One of the greatest guitarist.
LOVE the 'slow jam" starting on 5:20 mostly...love this to the maxxxxxx..Santana has some very sexy tunes / Samba Pa Ti another fav... Everything Is coming Our Way my all time Santana Fav's.!! Orgasmic.
Unmatched..!!!!!!
Excellent, still got it after all the years and just as good as original and better ( incident on Nashbar
Mon morceau préféré de Santana....Serais je le seul à l'adorer ??? Surtout à partir de la minute 5; 07
There are guitarists that can play circles around him....but nobody recognizes them or knows their names. Carlos is recognized anywhere in the world. Only one note....and you know, that's Carlos.
Oh Tom you're obviously not a player
Yes, there are other great guitarists but you can't ignore 9 Grammys and Rolling Stone listing Santana as no 20 in the top 100 guitarists of all time.
Santana can keep up with anyone, he’s played with SRV and Clapton who are the greatest ever
Looks are deceiving the way he phrases riffs especially the classics are unmatched there's been better faster technique with all kinds of effects but to each your own he does less and makes more one of my top 5

What a killer band! Not easy to get that many players in sync.
breathtaking ...
Caravanserai. Eterna da Reencarnação
My favorite musician of all time by Far
enjoy the "Afro Blue" segway around three minute mark
nothing to compare with 1970 performances
What about this one!?
good not as good@@rickbusson7260
The original recording was way better.
Frank Espinoza this one ain’t bad tho

Yeah, but I don't think the audience would appreciate Carlos putting in an Abraxas CD and playing track 4
La sessione ritmica è favolosa insieme alla meraviglia della chitarra
I miss Chester Thompson.

Man! I wish I was there front and center.
Fucking AWESOME!
'5.12...VERY VERY VERY CARLOS SANTANA. I LOVE YOU❤️
Santana's the man!
My favorite Santana song but it's hard to pick
What becomes a legend.
Mindig ez volt a kedvenc Santana-darabom, de ennyire tökéletesnek még sosem hallottam. Plusz a gyönyörű Coltrane-idézet...
love the organ solo, anyone know his name?
The original is done by greg rolie, idk who this guy is tho
It's David K. Mathews.
Santana at his best Jamming
definitely the best part is 5:20..the only part i like AWESOME Carlos!
When melody mattered more than mindlessly droning drum beat.
feliz cumpleaños hermano
CARLOS SANTANA.ALWAYS MONSTER OF THE UNIVERSE
GREGG ROLIE ???? MONSTER OF THE UNIVERSE
I like better the studio album
CT should have never left.
Great but nothing like the 70’s group. Gregg Rollie was great on the keyboards. And the percussion section

Viva Carlos Santana
theyre playing like amateurs compared to the 70s live version
Amateurs? Nothing like an amateur critic.
they are not amateurs but 1970 was better@@rickbusson7260
Mejor la original

Losing skills, better in the 70s
Fooooome no se reconoce aburrido
El Mismo carlos santana mato su propio clasico! Seguira siendo un incidente!
Compare to Lotus tour.............CS standards have dipped, markedly. Get the Les Paul and give Tom Coster a call.
This drummer no good
Agree
I’m not feeling the groove like I did Mike Shrieve or Graham Lear.
Sounds poor
Say what !!!!!! ??????
