Another thing I do and it's kind of stupid but if I feel like perusing the Dollar Store for no reason, I purposely don't bring a shopping cart inside the store, that way if I do pick up something I have to decide whether I actually want to carry it around everywhere in the store.
Chickens and dogs get my food scraps. I love giving the chickens food scraps, especially because it feels like paybacks for the eggs, and they are always grateful! 😁
Truer words have never been spoken about bras! That's the one thing I actually allowed myself to replace well into my decluttering journey, along with underwear and switched to all black socks. I might have to rethink that one now that we have a white bunny though! 🐇
When my son was little I would tell him to ‘look with your eyes, not with your hands’. I would shop with me hands behind my back to show him. I still use this technique because I know if I don’t touch an impulse item, it’s so much easier not to buy it.
I walked through hobby lobby yesterday didn’t buy a thing. But it brings me joy !! They’ve got fall and Christmas stuff out !!! Makes me want to clean out all the old crap and get new.
I don't meal plan, but I order my groceries online and I have a basic list that I know will feed me for at least ten days. I may remove or add a few bits each time, but I know that my fridge/freezer/store cupboard can provide me with the staples needed to create enough varied meals for at least that length of time. To be honest, it would probably feed me for longer, but I would run out of fresh veggies and milk. This allows me to make a good educated guess at how much my food budget will be for the month. Any meals out come from a separate budget, (the Fun fund) so that I know my spending limit there too.
yeah the water thing - I have a water bottle that I use (actually a Gatorade bottle) I use n reuse - for like years. Never done the Lottery . Generic brands! I like some Better than name brand 😋
Shop with a list. Online or in person. Shop your fridge/freezer/pantry/cupboards and make your meal plan/menu using what you have and only shop for what you actually need.
Interest free buying is good but be keen on your total cost. There is almost always some extra additional administrative fee for the interest free option. Almost like paying a small interest in advance.
Thanks for the nudge! I had printed out some recipes from Pinterest and I am now sitting at the table watching videos and meal planning for the next week. I just got out of the hospital on Monday with two new stents in my beat up heart. I had no idea my heart was beat up - 90% blockage in the Widowmaker and 80% in another artery and things are changing in this household. I have a Walmart order coming this evening, which is 95% produce and 5% cat food. For the cats, not me.
I have safe well water. I consider ready made bread a convenience food. ( I have been too sick to bake, plus the heat). Quakers do not gamble as a usual practice. I no longer need sewing or craft supplies, now that I am retired . I am stuck with the man condiments, though. Too cheap for late fees, On auto deductible. I buy as little as possible online. Elderly but son uses online for his art supplies. I am debt and mortgage free with an emergency fund. Never smoked, drank, or anything recreational, ever. We have minimal decor/holiday items. We garden, share, and compost. Our own cooking is better than anything near us.
We do a lottery pool at work (a high school) when the amount is super high, like 40 million. You pay $3 and can co-own 177 tickets with others. It’s not a weekly thing & it’s fun.
we have smallish fridge with freezer on top. Sort through/clean it often, especially before Costco run, so am aware of what needs to be used up. Keep notebk on fridge for fam to add whatever is out/low.
I have a cooling off period for a few days at least, when I click things adding them into my 'shopping cart's online, but then I DON'T 'check out'!!!! I just close out the app and I usually delete everything or at least almost everything the next time I get back in!!! I ONLY buy the item IF I've been thinking about it during those days when I wasn't in the app!!! I also try to maintain a cooling off period for my (killer) sweet tooth too! If I don't eat it now lol, I wait about 20 minutes and if I still want it later then I let myself eat it!!! Quite frequently the craving/thought passes and I forgot about it so I can save some calories for my next sweet tooth craving that I DO eat after my 20 minutes cooling off period!!! Lol
i quit smoking in 1986 and I just cold turkey and that is when the smokes where 1.75 per pack. I thought if they went up to 5.00 per pack people will quit.
Dennys gives you a free meal on your birthday. just bring in your birth certificate. but they only give you a 20.00 towards your meal . better check just to make sure.
Haha! I just bought VS bras with their buy 2 get 2 free deal tonight! 😂 I bought Walmart bras last year and they are NOT good… I expect my bras to last years! 😂😅
One thing I used to buy too many phone cases. 😮. I don’t know what happened but I just lost interest. I have 2 now, pink and blue for my current phone. Which is definitely a lower amount than what I used to get. 😮 Oh I love phones, too. I was embarrassed to say this until you brought it up. I have to stop 🛑 😮!
bottle water has plastic partials. but I keep water in my emergency go bag, and change the water every six month. by the way we are waiting for the big one. the earth quake. so have that ready just incase.
why do you Us/canadian residents need an app for paying things? dont you guys have digital banking? we can just set up payments in advance at our bank, so you can literaly automate it yourself and never think about it again.. i am so confused that i see several US/canadian youtubers talk about mails/bills etc. when it is no problem at all... i never get physical mail/bills. i automated literally everything. Iam not being evil, iam just trying to get things sorted out because i am feeling like you guys are overthinking stuff XD please tell me if digital banking is just not an option over there?
Digital banks with apps are definitely an option! Thanks for your question! YNAB is a budgeting tool that also coordinates things like bill payments if you set it up that way.
@@MinimalistHome ah ok, my bank does that for me as well, so i dont need a different app. We just set up a date when the payment needs to be done and i can choose to repeat it dayly/weekly/monthly/yearly (even on diff dates if i need to) weird thing you guys dont have that option just within your bank
Great question! I am in the US and have personally never used a budgeting app. Many people here don’t use them. I believe it’s just another option out there for anyone who prefers them. Perhaps the app organizes things differently in a way that works better for them. I personally bank at multiple institutions for different things, so I can see how the budget apps can be a helpful way to consolidate information on bank accounts, retirement, other investments, etc. I can’t speak for everyone of course, but that’s probably the reason some people use them. 🙂

Waiting, putting those impulse desires on pause works!

When it comes to basic things like setting up automated payments, yes, pretty much all banks offer that online without an app. 🙂
