Yeah, my view is coloured by what I experienced in Java. The people in the kamungs near me generally either had no motorbike or rode around on 15 year old clunkers. Most didn’t work or only worked odd jobs. Those that had factory jobs were seen as doing well as they got minimum wage. Apart from the more rural areas in Bali, you don’t really see people doing things as bad. The number of people riding around on brand new Vespas (55jt bikes) is breathtaking. I barely saw a handful in Bandung where I lived previously. Bali is one of the wealthiest provinces in Indonesia.
@SanurDiaries I meant to also say that I agree with you on Ubud...the traffic congestion has ruined it for me. However, it still holds a special place in my heart for art and culture.
Yep. I'm really torn by the situation there now. It's not just the traffic, but the demographic that now hangs out there. The vibe is totally different despite the shell of the original Ubud still being there. I can still see past the negatives to the place I once adored.
Another very informative video. I know I won’t be travelling to other parts of Indonesia so especially enjoy your information about other areas. This time 2 weeks will be about to board a flight to Bali. Can’t wait to make Sanur my home again even if it’s only for two weeks. 😀
Beauty. Prepare for relaxation. There’s no better feeling than when you arrive and the stress you didn’t even know you had starts to melt away and lift a weight off your shoulders. The first massage does that too.
Thanks Adam for the informative and entertaining diary video. Interesting to hear what you had to say about tipping. We like to tip the house keeping staff and our driver for keeping us safe but never tip in hotels, bars, cafes etc. There seems to be more bakery style eateries in Sanur now. I suppose it’s meeting tourist demands? Q. Any tips for visiting the harbour and taking a fast ferry over to Lombok?
It's good to be careful with tipping as it can vary from place to place. As always, it's personal choice as to whether you tip or not and I respect that. You're right about the bakery thing. They're popping up everywhere. And they seem to be popular. I don't have any tips about the harbour yet, but I will eventually get up there and do a few videos about transport and buying tickets as i know those are 2 things that are causing people headaches right now.
Recently, there was a news in Korea about the Korean airline, which almost approached Bail but returned because of a volcano. So I was worried. Thanks for letting me know that all is okay.
Thanks Adam, enjoy your vlog style very much. Just wonder if you have been to Candi Dasa of late. I haven't been for years and wonder if its worth a visit and staying a few nights?
I haven’t stayed overnight for a long time, but friends tell me it’s still pretty dead as it has been for the past 30 years. There are some new places popping up, but it’s still not that popular.
Well, depends what sort of sate you’re after. I love warung Bu Komang. Less traditional is Warung Saro, but the flavour is incredible. I’m not sure what place you’re referring to across from the pizza shop. Is it a sate place?
@SanurDiaries it's pretty basic shall we say, but it pumps out a lot of smoke definately a sate joint but may have other food as well not sure. On the topic of food the Taksu Buffett breakfast is a winner, the battered barramundi 👌🍜
The best I've ever tasted in Sanur is Warung Rik Rik on Jl Danau Poso. The saté ayam is next level good, and your host Erik is the coolest of cool cats!
Hi Adam. Just wondering about Nypei day (the day of silence). Is everything closed on the Island? I hear that some expats will go to Lombok, as its a muslim run location, and they do not recognise Nypei day? Also, do the local authorities strictley enforce the code of conduct surounding the day, and what are the penilties to tourists who break the rules?
Yeah everything including the airport is shut on Nyepi and you’re not allowed out of your accommodation. You’ll often be allowed low key activities around the pool area etc, but you’re not allowed into the streets and it is strictly enforced. If you break the rules and get caught and act obnoxious about it, you might get a beating. The general rule of Nyepi is to stay inside, close your curtains and wait it out. It only applies to Bali, so yes Lombok is fine. But for me it’s definitely not something that makes me want to escape. It’s not really a big deal.
Im family is coming to sanur for xmas.staying in the karang beach area Can u recommend somewhere i can get babi guling thats around that area Also wheres best to get a some sim cards ? Thanks Love ur channel 👍🏻
For Babi Guling, I’m not sure what’s available in that specific area in terms of Babi guling. The closest ones that I’ve been to in Sanur are going to be Warung Kania and Warung Amertasari. They’re both really good Babi gulings. As for SIM cards, I really don’t know! I probably need to do a video on it or somehow get Susan to create a SIM card delivery service.
Thanks Adam ... great info, as usual😊
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great Vlog. Good to at last see someone giving a balanced view on the perceived poverty in Bali.

No worries
I love all your vlogs, but The Sanur Sessions series is my favourite.
Thanks for your hard work Adam.
Thanks for such a lovely comment! ☺️

I like this format too. I learnt a lot about the volcanoes in Indonesian and I like the local food. The rentals are very interesting too.
Great vlog, really enjoyed Beyond Bali this episode.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Adam, I once drove from Jogya, Malang, Bromo and then to Lovina. It was a great experience but then my bahasa was much better.
It’s a fantastic journey isn’t it? The scenery is just stunning. Hope you’re doing well!
oh man i like that delicious cheap jajanan gorengan at the sanur beach
Yeah they are good aren’t they? I like just hanging out there and stuffing my face. 🤣
@@SanurDiaries the sauce is something special
We visited the Bromo volcano when in Java. Bleak but interesting.
Yeah it’s a pretty incredible place
Recently, there was a news in Korea about the Korean airline, which almost approached Bail but returned because of a volcano. So I was worried. Thanks for letting me know that all is okay.
Yeah it seems to have passed now, but as volcanoes are unpredictable, it could happen again at any time!

@SEAescapes25 good recommendation on taksu. Will keep it in mind.
Hey man loving your vlogs but I'll give you 10 million rupiah to keep sanur a secret before it turns into a changgu 😂
