Did you not leave your apartment in Vancouver? Its one of the most walkable cities in the world. Its full of parks, downtown is Stanley park with the longest natural seawall trail in the world. Go less than an hour outside of Vancouver, its total wilderness, beautiful.
Loved the video But you must remember you lived in one city in Canada It should be headlined as living Ireland (or Dublin ) vs living in Vancouver. It would be like going to NYC and complaining about the lack of hiking in Manhattan
Some of the points made here relate to Vancouver, specifically, rather than Canada but it was interesting to note the stuff that wasn't mentioned, because it's common to both.
An "Immersion" comprises a copper tank filled with water & a heater. The "Immersion" is an electric heating element that sits inside the copper tank. When you want hot water you need to turn the immersion ON - then leave ON until the tank is hot. You want a bath--or shower--you turn it ON. When you do not need hot water you leave it OFF. Mostly these days they are timer controlled... Most old house have immersion heaters for the hot water. Latterly they were replaced by oil or gas central heating boilers which heated the radiators and also heated the copper hot water tanks. Nowadays the boilers heat the radiators for the house and are "Instantaneous hot water heaters" so you do not need a copper tank nor immersion. Turn on the hot water tap or shower and the boiler instantaneously heats the water. Technology arrives in Ireland...and UK by the way
Good video man! Most people don't realize this, but drivers in Canada CAN turn left at a light in one circumstance - you can turn left from a ONE-WAY street as long as you're turning onto another ONE-WAY street! It's in the driver's handbook and it's the ONLY exception to the rule! IT'S A FACT. 👍👍
Plus one for Mr. Cavan. Things are really different outside the big cities. Unfortunately for us, municipal and provincial governments in Canada are largely captured by real estate developers. So we find ourselves in the absurd position of being the second largest country in the world and the highest housing costs per square metre for the tiniest condos allowed. I once viewed a condo in downtown Ottawa. It was so tiny that I asked the realtor how one would get furniture through the door. She told me that they make special furniture to fit into modern condos. Yep...
Great cover up bro. I'm planning to pursue my master's in finance from Dublin by 2021. Hope to catch up soon. Keep posting videos to give better insight about Ireland. All the best
In two weeks I'll move home to Co.Armagh after 6 years in Vancouver. Excited and terrified in equal measure. Really enjoyed the video, the space thing is so very true but not something I could have put my finger on until you said it.
@@BrandonHilikus It's been 14 months now and I don't regret it at all. Do I miss my life in Vancouver? Absolutely, sometimes painfully so. More than that I think I miss the PERSON I was when I didn't live in Ireland, more confident, less critical and not caring so much what others thought of me. It's hard to hold onto that person here. But I'm also really enjoying building my new life at home. People in Vancouver seem...stuck, for want of a better word. It doesn't matter if they're 30, 40 or 50, there's a youthful mindset which is absolutely great for a period of time but starts to get rather old (excuse the pun) after a while. There's a lot of fun things to distract yourself with, but is anyone really building anything of permanence? While Vancouver really felt like it was my home after a year or so, nothing beats your actual home. Maybe it can be best explained with this small anecdote; on my first week back I was going for a walk in my small hometown and as I passed a stranger coming the opposite direction he looked me straight in the eye and said a simple 'Hello'. I was so taken back by this that I don't think I even answered the fella. This is something that, for all it's surface-level politeness, NEVER happens in a city like Vancouver. Here it happens every few meters and I appreciate it every single time. I'd forgotten that this is what human beings should actually do when confronted with one another. I hope it never changes.
You are mainly speaking about Vancouver. Toronto is completely different, there are lots of green spaces. I live close to downtown and there are 3 parks within 1 block. One of the parks is approximately 4km long.
As a Canadian that's been all over this country I have to say Vancouver is one of my least favourite Canadian cities and it always surprises people. Victoria on Vancouver island on the other hand is gorgeous and one of my top Canadian cities to visit. I live in Toronto and feel we have more green space and a nice beach front compared to Vancity, plus a lot more to do. Vancouver is very expensive, has crazy levels of crime and addiction and always seems dirty, dull and dangerous. My favourite cities are Victoria, Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, St. John's NL and Saskatoon as a prairie city. Like most Canadian places, all are best to visit in summer or fall.
Donn you lived in Vancouver. Of course there isn't space. If you moved out of the city there is all kinds of space. That's one thing that Canada has lots of.
Great video Donn ... loved the perspective that no one else I have found has done. Door entrances was hugely interesting thought. I'll be thinking that one for a while. Cheers from the BC Rockies.
I'm moving to Galway at the end of the month to pursue my master's at NUIG. This video was great!! Although if you want more space and architecture, come to the Atlantic :)
Vancouver is one of the most congested and expensive cities in Canada, I'm Canadian and would not live in Vancouver, cost of housing alone is ridiculous, if you can find a place to live.
Vancouver is unusual, being squeezed between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean with limited space to build on. Add that to it being Canada's main port on the Pacific plus being popular with all kinds of foreigners in addition to Canadians and it becomes over crowded. If you went a few hundred miles inland past the mountains to the prairies you would find yourself downright lonely.
Love Montreal. My brother lived there for almost 10 years. Great people and lots of culture. Serious weather as well. I must say I prefer summer to winter in Quebec 🥶
The card thing isint really true anymore. I mean the video is very new but in Dublin you can use your card everywhere. Theres even a few places that don't take cash. Gravediggers pub is the only pub that I know that doesn't take card .
Great video!! I think you’ll find that the feeling of space (or lack of space:) is unique to Vancouver. Vancouver has the highest density of people in Canada and as you pointed out, home ownership is pretty much impossible unless you are wealthy.... So we all live in our shoe box apartments (but the mountains and oceans are beautiful).
Ireland is dwarfed by Canada, and the idea that there's more space there speaks to your myopic experience in Vancouver. I suggest you take the 10 days to drive ocean to ocean, then report back on the green space we've got.
You missed coming to visit Newfoundland, especially the east coast of the province which is often compared to Ireland. Where else in NA will you find the Irish Loop?
Hi. Very interesting video. My husband and I are planning to move from Winnipeg to Ireland in about a year. My husband is European but I am Canadian. Do you have any tips to plan our move?
First thing that comes to mind, outside of the obvious, is get your car insurance history documents ready. If you plan to drive here it'll be significantly reduce your quote. Research PPS number before you arrive. It's our version of social insurance. Takes some time to get. Try and secure a mailing address as soon as possible. Banks etc will want it. Also have a look into health insurance options. Most clinics here do pay and claim so there isn't a big culture for direct billing to govt/insurance companies. That's all that comes to mind right now 🤔 hope it helps 😃
Hey brother your video was tremendous, it really helped me decide between which country I should go for the master's, I'm currently thinking of pursuing my masters in finance from Ireland because in Ireland you only have 1 year's of master's degree and I guess it's pretty time saving as well as it is cost effective..........thank you so much❤️🙏

Hiking, camping, sports clubs, snowboarding, the outdoors and street festivals are things that Canada does very well. It really comes down to what you're into. Hope this helps
Kind of ironic how slow tech has taken effect in day to day life in modern day Ireland. Aren’t all the iCloud servers there? Wasn’t the “Celtic Tiger” partly due to Big Tech moving in? Architecture: true all new, but also built to withstand gnarly earthquakes. Thanks for the video about passports!
My ex bf was a Dane and we met when he lived here and when I moved to Denmark, I got told off by his mother for sending to back to Denmark as a jaywalker. He said he would never drive a car in Ireland because you never know when people could pop out 😂
Hmmmm I'm from the Vancouver area and there are LOADS of HUGE green spaces. Did you live downtown in the middle of the city??? Appreciated your comparisons as I'm moving to Ireland soon.
I have considered getting my Irish Passport through Ancestry. My great-grandparents on one side are from there. I have always liked Irish people, culture etc. and from what I understand its a pretty good nation in Europe in terms of COL, politicis, work etc. Canada is crazy right now and I do not see it getting any better. I want a better future for my children and I have a really hard time seeing that here in Canada. What fo Irish people think?
An irish gent and diplomate in responding to comments. ;). Planning to buy a nice apartment in dublin next month. Waiting for the elusive pps number (.
@@donnshoots got my pps number. I never been to dublin. Almost purchased an apartment in baldoyle. Is it a good place to live. Are there youth gangs and crime. How does it compared with vancouver?
I was born in Canada. My father was born in Canada. My grandfather was born in Canada. My grandfather's great grandfather came from Ireland sometime in the 1820's. I grew up about 15 km. from the original homestead. I now live in Toronto, a lovely and interesting city. In 2019, my wife took me to Dublin for me 60th birthday and I had a wonderful time. I was very delightfully surprised that all of the stereotypes of Ireland that I had were no longer true (if they ever were). It never rained for any of the four days we were there. We told the hotel staff that we had brought our Canadian weather with us. (If only they really knew.) I drank a Saigon beer in a Vietnamese restaurant in Dublin Ireland because ten years before that I drank a Guinness in an Irish pub in Saigon Vietnam.
Wrong title. Should be life in Ireland compared to Vancouver. There is a lot more to Canada than just Vancouver. If you want old Buildings go to Halifax N.S. Or Quebec and Ontario. Space...Vancouver is crowded...the rest of Canada is not like Vancouver.
yeah he probably went to the down town area and stayed in the area. Once you get out of the city it can be spacious, I live on the island my self, it's so nice here.
??? Even Vancouver has Stanley park which is massive and most City’s have many , many Parks. That said , everything we have lots of is very expensive , Land, building supplies, power even gas as compared to other large exporters of oil! Also no one knows why things like cell phone plans and wifi are so much( probably because we have little in the way of , Monopoly and Combine Laws!
Well you’ve obviously never lived in the United States because it’s a slow process for everything. And being able to get a credit card whenever you want when you look at how many people are in debt and Canada and the US it’s probably a good thing
I know that americans always say that they were surprised by how they were treated when they were crossing into Canada. The items that they will say is a dangerous weapon varies from a flashlights to a pen and seem ridiculous.
Exactly I ESS driving throjg a housi g estate a fellow on a bike deliberately tried to collude with me i had go swerve and jam on ,he wentoff grinning. ?! I'm almost 50, and I do not carry any cash in my wallet. Haven't had to for about 20 years. I don't take cabs, but I'm sure nowadays they do take debit cards.
You need to go to more places than Vancouver... there is definitely A LOT of space and parks.... Try Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Charlottetown just to say a few... They are all different and all have different vibes... basing your info on one of the MOST expensive cities in the entire country. Loved your video, but some of your observations do not hold true in the rest of Canada. Thanks for your take on what you observed but...
@Donn Shoots As a Canadian... The "space you are talking about" does not match most of Canada... It seems you are comparing Ireland in general with Vancouver not Canada as a whole... Sorry man but that is not a just comparison.
@@vaisakhps8642 really cool. Both countries have reputable schools and narrowing down which courses appeal the most would be great. I'm not sure about tuition fees for people coming from India, but I'd add that getting around Irish cities will significantly reduce your commute time. Canada is very vast and if you don't get a place on campus, you might spend a lot of time on transit. Keep me updated 👍
Idk if I can appreciate the Dublin architecture. I’d rather they get rid of it all and build modern skyscrapers so that house prices and urban sprawl can go down.
You have to be very proper in both countries they're both english countries of proper etiquesie to and you have to respect the tradition and culture of both the Irish/english and the english of canada without you'll be lost...in life...its a lifelesson...
When it comes down to "processes " generally speaking, all Europe is horrible vs. USA and Canada. Thanks for the video... I am looking forward to moving to Dublin to study.
Hiya. I'm an Irish citizen, but I've lived in Canada most of my life. What you've said is true for the most part, but the most significant difference I've noticed between Canada and virtually anywhere is that when you're Irish in Ireland, you're Irish. Or English in England. Or French in France or whatever it is wherever you are. Not so in Canada. I'm old enough to be yer Da and in the last 30 to 40 years Canada has lost the soul of who it used to be. It used to be like America, a melting pot where folk came from all over to be Canadian. They kept their cultural identity, but were Canadian. Now it's ultra-multi cultural and to be honest it's anyone's guess who Canadians are. Maybe I'll retire in Ireland. I'll have to make sure I've got all the documents needed for my wife and myself to get our PPS number. 8-) Go raibh maith agat.
This is a huge point. So many of the people moving to Canada today are not in the slightest bit interested in actually 'being Canadian'. Unfortunately most Canadians can't seem to grasp what a detrimental effect that is having on the countries sense of identity and solidarity as a people. Further they actually go out of their way to enable this lack of assimilation under a misguided attempt to be inclusive. Vancouver especially felt like a city of people living peacefully side-by-side but not actually living as one collective society. This led to so much underlying tension and I think is a huge reason why some describe the city as 'soulless' and 'lonely'.
@@tonymcconville326 Yes. The same can be said about Montreal and Toronto. The only culturally Canadian locations are medium- to small-sized cities and the countryside. The major cities are the United Nations under Canadian law, for the most part.
Ehi Donn, you sound such a nice man, good video! Both countries are really smart and a lot to offer. I think Ireland is better for study, while Canada for job..
Wow 😮 B C has about the same population as Ireland give or take a few hundred thousand, and you could probably fit about 8-9 Irelands in our province. ..that's more of a quick guesstimate than fact lol .. I didn't realize the size difference AT ALL. I knew BC was bigger, but holy cow!
Drinking culture in Canada is not as big. Drinking culture in Ireland is awesome. More bars less questions. And people talk more in Ireland. Canada most people keep to themselves. I would not recommend Canada but everybody has a different opinion.
Dude. You aren't comparing Ireland to Canada, but only to VANCOUVER... That is MAJOR misleading and click-baiting. Anyway, parts of Canada were founded in the early 1600s. In my city (Quebec City) there are buildings from that era, and it's not the only place. Also, BC is DEFINITELY not representative of Canada as a whole, it has its own very unique subculture and population makeup and its own triple-pricing everything lunacy.... You REALLY ought to change that thumbnail title... SOME people might get the wrong impression about my country.
Need more space?, get out of the city Don’t understand your space comparison. Not that it matters. But my back yard in Ontario 🇨🇦 is probably bigger than the city you live in. Lol maybe not. But still. Far more space here. Most Canadians live along the Canada/American border because its the most “southern” which is to say its a far more enjoyable climate. Would love to visit Ireland. It’s been a desire for many years for me. The architecture & culture looks amazing. Canada is young but I know we have very old amazing limestone buildings in Ontario as well as most of eastern Canada that are beautiful as well. Never been to Vancouver, BC. Don’t know how it compares. Except it is viewed as the most expensive part of Canada
We're in the south not because of climate, but because of transportation (St. Lawrence/Great Lakes, etc.), good agricultural land, and trade (with US).
Theres probably no good reason for the canadian passport. Theyre just ticking boxes. I didn't realise it was easier in North American. I know that Spain and France have terrible bureaucracy as well
Enjoyed your show. Very informative. You must mention health care and social welfare in Canada next time. Space in Ireland. Just visit Galway. All concreted over . No parks, dont bring your dog. No municipal swimming pool. No, no No! Lots of grey buildings and everything is very expensive. Expensive parking. . The council suspects all citizens of being potential criminals. Sounds like East Germany Maybe, Vancouver is not that bad after all.
please someone suggest me! Its my dream to live in Canada. Ive applied to colleges few weeks back and yet to recv my offer letters. Meanwhile, as a plan B, I also have applied to Limerick Institute of Tech in Ireland and I recvd my offer. should I stick to my Canadian plan or shall i proceed with what life gives me? What would you do if you were in my place? Please elt me know with valid reasons.
Cute video, likeable personality 🙂 HOWEVER #4 was complete nonsense. Canada is literally FULL of nature and wide-open spaces... You lived in one of the largest urban cities in Canada. Vancouver is a highly-populated bustling metropolis. You think that’s what our entire country is like??? What an absurd comparison. If you were to check out a suburban area or smaller city/town you’d be literally surrounded by nature trails, parks, public gardens, fields and green spaces. It would put Ireland to shame in an instant! Wow.
Although I really like your video, I'm afraid you missed the mark completely.
There is plenty of space in Canada if you want it!!
An irish gent and diplomate in responding to comments. ;). Planning to buy a nice apartment in dublin next month. Waiting for the elusive pps number (.
Ah the good old PPS number. Can't leave home without it
@@donnshoots got my pps number. I never been to dublin. Almost purchased an apartment in baldoyle. Is it a good place to live. Are there youth gangs and crime. How does it compared with vancouver?
From India to Ireland or Canada?? Which is better?
(If only they really knew.)
I drank a Saigon beer in a Vietnamese restaurant in Dublin Ireland because ten years before that I drank a Guinness in an Irish pub in Saigon Vietnam.
Thanks for sharing. That was a really enjoyable story to read. Whats the next beer you'll drink and where will it be?
@@donnshoots I have drank South African wine, here in Canada. I have distant relatives in South Africa, I might enjoy sharing a Canadian wine with.
If We receives Irish citizenship, can we migrate to Canada easily?
God where in Canada did u go ??? There is so much space when u get out of the cities.
yeah he probably went to the down town area and stayed in the area.
Once you get out of the city it can be spacious, I live on the island my
self, it's so nice here.
Size of the needles or get a clover
Victoria British Columbia is the City Of Gardens. More space than Vancouver and less snow!!! CHEERS
Well you’ve obviously never lived in the United States because it’s a slow process for everything. And being able to get a credit card whenever you want when you look at how many people are in debt and Canada and the US it’s probably a good thing
Why you went to Canadá?
Always wanted to live there and moved during the last recession. It's a great country 😁
@@donnshoots oh thanks for you answer, do you think Canada has a better quality of life?
Ireland is a ancient place
Its been populated by people hundreds of years before england
I know that americans always say that they were surprised by how they were treated when they were crossing into Canada. The items that they will say is a dangerous weapon varies from a flashlights to a pen and seem ridiculous.
bescause they know if they get a tip of a car there running to there solictor for compo even if there in the wrong lol
Exactly I ESS driving throjg a housi g estate a fellow on a bike deliberately tried to collude with me i had go swerve and jam on ,he wentoff grinning. Saw a true story of kids being asked in school what they was tedyo do when they grew up. The usual answers were given, but one little girl said I want to be a claimer, teacher couldn't figure our what that was, kid explained, all my family are claimers, and we get money every time. A lot like that, but the. You get the reverse a friend of mine tripped on a plastic band turn off dome briquettesby a rough purchaser and must thrown on the ground in shop.she got 10 stitches in her head but didn't claim an, old man owned the shop. But she felt he wasn't responsible for the sghpid person was ho threw it there takes all sorts
?! I'm almost 50, and I do not carry any cash in my wallet. Haven't had to for about 20 years. I don't take cabs, but I'm sure nowadays they do take debit cards.
Also, Europe has beautiful buildings.
I’m thinking in applying for the youth mobility program! I live in Calgary, any tips to know before starting the process??
Ireland 🇮🇪 is bleeped . Best of luck mate
Sorry man but that is not a just comparison.
im trying to decide between choosing canada or ireland for higher studies... can you help
Wow, great question. I did my higher education in Ireland, but I know there are good schools in Canada. what do you want to study?
@@donnshoots i completed bachelor of social work in india ,so im looking to study courses related to that
@@vaisakhps8642 really cool.
@@donnshoots thanks brother i will keep you posted im currently finalising on the course and province etc
100% welcome to multicultural land Canada disbanded in the year 2000 lol
Irish jig yeah lol love it
Ehi Donn, you sound such a nice man, good video!
You are only comparing Ireland to Vancouver. Canada is much bigger than one city!
Drinking culture in Canada is not as big. Drinking culture in Ireland is awesome. More bars less questions. And people talk more in Ireland. Canada most people keep to themselves. I would not recommend Canada but everybody has a different opinion.
Stunning architecture over there. Canada. Not so....in comparison
Um...yeah. Pierre; what was with that "found just over 100 years ago"? Good grief.
Need more space?, get out of the city
Don’t understand your space comparison.
Hey, I need to do higher studies like master can u guide me through this , It would be really helpful for me ☺️
I was confused about Ireland n Canada but I feel by seeing ur video life is pretty easy in Canada compare to ireland
There's good and bad everywhere you go. Thanks for watching 👍
Theres probably no good reason for the canadian passport. Theyre just ticking boxes.
I didn't realise it was easier in North American. I know that Spain and France have terrible bureaucracy as well
Problem number once 🍀. You’re in Vancouver
Sounds like East Germany
Maybe, Vancouver is not that bad after all.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment, thanks for sharing 😀👍
Canada🇨🇦💯 best country in the world
it used to be lol
please someone suggest me!
Where did u go ?
@@muhammedsalman4021 🇨🇦😁Canada
Houses and buildings in Ireland are awful
Scandinavia, France and Germany has better buildings

not in Vancouver, you nut ! but EVERYWHERE ELSE ?? 100% FOREST !!!
Cute video, likeable personality 🙂
HOWEVER #4 was complete nonsense. Wow.
Thanks for your comment. It helps the growth of my channel 👍
OK the first point about cash is so utterly wrong that the video ends there for me. Good luck in your fantasy.
Thanks for your comment, it really helps the growth of my channel 😊
Although I really like your video, I'm afraid you missed the mark completely. Your comparison in living in Canada to living in Ireland is way, way off, You need to visit the east coast of Canada mate, you'll have a completely different experience , especially, come on down home to Newfoundland and see watcha thinks of 'er ........
They build their Anglo city after they knocked down and decimated medieval Dublin.
Lost me after not using cash and jwalking, whatever that is. Cash is king.
Both cities built by the british!!!
😁 don't compare canada with ireland canada is best one!!
Thank you for your insight 🙂
Good video but ridiculous comment to say there's more space I Ireland..buy a car and get out into the countryside mate!!
Title change: difference between Canada and boggerland Ireland.
