@@facetubetwit1444 although that's definitely a really good point, I think one of the more telling signs is that the sand was also found at the skatepark. That in particular and also being tied back to wearing bigger clothing, as well as the particularly brutal circumstance in which they were murdered leads me to believe that it wasn't a Japanese person otherwise there would be more killings like this. Also not to mention you have to be particularly strong to be able to break a knife in someone's head and then go kill two other people knowingly with a broken knife broken knife and only sustained a hand injury. That would be more telling of somebody who would have a larger stature and weight who can deliver more force behind each blow. Also the amount of tea that was drank even for a 2 to 10 hour period would still be pretty drastic that's a lot of fluid intake for one person. All these signs in particular lead my conclusion to be that it was a foreigner. Not even particularly an American as we said in the video, with somebody who simply has access and means to travel and would have committed the crime and fled do another place afterwards. Explaining why there weren't any more murders like this, because although the means of Entry seemed really premeditated. I...... have a bit of a theory. This could have been done by a military person. Setagaya isn't that far from Yokota. It's an hour cab ride. Killer does his thing, hangs out, leaves in the morning, catches a cab, goes back to base, goes through the gate, goes back to the barracks, and then very soon after goes on deployment, probably with one of the ships from Yokosuka. It would also explain the sand from a beach in California, as well as the fanny pack. Which were the shit back in 2000.
only thing that bugs me is the use of the computer implies the culprit knew japanese. service members in 95-99% of cases do not stay in a host country long enough to learn the language, especially with japanese being an extremely difficult language to learn. im sure at the onset of the andrews afb discovery it would be trivial to make a list of who at yokota had previously been at andrews. and if my language theory is correct on being able to use the computer, american japanese speakers affiliated with the base who also had a connection to andrews would be a list of 5-15 people at most.
Yokota is an Airbase while Yokosuka is a Navy base. Not a lot of people who are stationed in the post of one branch but serve in another, then will get orders and leave from a different base in a nearby base from their branch.
Yokouska is a bit of a train ride, it would take more than an hour, but also would explain having to wait in the morning because of the liberty, IF it was a service member, that could explain it. I do not know if the base dependents had that same rule, and i do not know if the airforce had those restrictions as well. I am leaning against it being a sailor, and either a dependent of the US military or Japanese military.
This case sits up there with Hinterkaifeck and Villisca. All had killers that didn't have an obvious motive and decided to hang around the house for a period of time. It's chilling to think about the minset of someone who could not only massacre a family, but spend time with the bodies going about with ordinary tasks. Theories aside, we'll never know the why of it all

@PeripheralVisionary. could also be a person who has one japanese parent that was simply visiting at the time, then returned back to maybe Korea or America after their visit was done
An interesting point is that the killer's footprints confirm that his shoes were bought in South Korea. Japan and Korea follow different size charts and the killers shoeprints match a standard shoe size in Korea but dont match any Japanese size. If the killer was a foreigner and has left the country, that makes the case incredibly difficult to solve.

20:33 Quote from the movie Scream (1996) Billy: You hear that, Stu? I think she wants a motive. Well, I don't really believe in motives, Sid. I mean, did Norman Bates have a motive? Stu: No. Billy: Did we ever find out why Hannibal Lector liked to eat people? DON'T THINK SO. See, it's a lot scarier when there's no motive.
Norman Bates was channeling his mother and doing what he imagined she would, after she died and his mind was in denial of this, so kept her alive by acting as her. Hannibal Lecter was forced to eat his little sister by these military dudes when he was a kid, tracked them down when he was older, and ate parts of them as poetic justice. He’d already crossed that line, it was normalised for him, and so that became his teaching rude people a lesson strategy. Whilst he appears quite sane, he’s thought to have CPTSD, with the cannibalism being his trauma response. I don’t know if I agree that it’s scarier to not understand what motivates these killers. I think it’s scarier to understand that any one of us could snap and become one of them one day. Our parents, our intimate partners, our kids, somebody you live right next to, somebody you work with, your doctor, your hairdresser… anybody. And you might not see the signs at all until it’s too late.
Something to add regarding the sales history / the clothes the killer had purchased. Even today Japan is still more of a cash based society. If we’re talking back all the way to 2000 the amount of people who had credit cards in the area probably didn’t even reach triple digits. The shops record of purchase would have nothing.
The fact that he was seen arguing with skateboarders. Im not sure id ever heard that before. Seems like occams razor might be that this person was attacking for that reason.
I happen to live in Setagaya, but to the south of the case area. One of the supermarkets I go to is across the river you see running next to the skateboard park at 3:28. Between that area and mine is a wealthy neighborhood called Seijo with some of the best junior-high and high schools in the country, the residents would never have anticipated such a murder.

What if the killer purposefully left multiple evidence that seem to point to the right direction, but is actually designed to mislead the investigation teams?
Right? Even on the articles of clothing. They could've just asked/paid anyone to buy those for them. They could've also bought clothes that would match taller people and wore those even if they're on the shorter side for the police to think that they're taller than they actually are.
I remember hearing about this case before, certain channels I used to watch cover this along with Futura case, can't remember which channel. My guess is it is likely the older child of a US Airforce officer who either a) knew he would return home or b) was sent back right away when this was found out and then covered up. Based on the sand, clothing sizes and style, dna haplotypes, and just how brazen the amount of evidence left over was. Military brats tend to not care when overseas. It could also be tied into the argument at the skatepark as skateboarding was very popular with American teens at the time.
Craziest thing is with what we know about these types of people is that the killer is most likely in this comment section and loving every second of it.
this case so frustrating it has me seriously putting faith in the more conspiratorial theories, like the killer being the son of an influencial person, connections like Yakuza politicians billionaires who would stop prosecution but would know better than to try to scrape the case fully from the record.
American occupants even crashed entire helicopters on kindergardens in Okinawa and got away with it. I would easily believe that investigators got the trail to that airbase and was shunned away by their subservient higher-ups.

I love how everywhere in Japan there’s an animator/ graphic design artist for even the most serious of situations . The cute fox mascot for the flyer is insane .
32:01 Correction: unfortunately, they can. In Japan, laws or changes in laws cannot be retroactively applied to older crimes, meaning murders committed when there was a statute of limitations are still subject to that statute of limitations. My first thought is that the killer isn't from japan because of how careless he was with leaving evidence everywhere.
Yeah that's the most logical, especially because you wouldn't be in the database for their system and wore "big"clothes
Wasn’t there some trace evidence tied to California? Could definitely be from the US
@@jahovachite It also could be just someone without a criminal record that just so happened to have taken a holiday to California with said bum bag prior to the murders or someone from cali on holiday on japan. My first thought was jaded love of the wife or something like that but i feel they might have mention if it was a crime of passion. So now I'm thinking it could of been a opportunistic murders for what ever reason, I don't know what really makes killer's tick but one would think if this was a serial killer there would be more murders with very similar out comes.
probably russian
If you're used to more European style structuring you would see that as an opportunity to be able to jump into a house❤

And obviously
"Literally" is the new "figuratively".

I did this, and now I'm dead.
And “actual” or “actually” as well
I...... have a bit of a theory.
Plus, the young-ish person, too. Most of the military is young. Most of them are 18-19 ish.
only thing that bugs me is the use of the computer implies the culprit knew japanese. service members in 95-99% of cases do not stay in a host country long enough to learn the language, especially with japanese being an extremely difficult language to learn. im sure at the onset of the andrews afb discovery it would be trivial to make a list of who at yokota had previously been at andrews. and if my language theory is correct on being able to use the computer, american japanese speakers affiliated with the base who also had a connection to andrews would be a list of 5-15 people at most.
Reminds me of when two cops walked right past the likely Zodiac Killer. One flub can sink an entire case.

20:33 Quote from the movie Scream (1996)
Billy:
You hear that, Stu? I think she wants a motive. Well, I don't really believe in motives, Sid. I mean, did Norman Bates have a motive?
Stu:
No.
Billy:
Did we ever find out why Hannibal Lector liked to eat people?
