That might have more to do with the medium of Twitter and it's parroting by press then the actual response... Just why you should look at that in a little more suspect light, which is good cuz you're here.. where you can actually get real information in a less compressed format.

I noticed that Oblivion and Daggerfall have some things in common when it comes to the design. And so do Morrowind and Skyrim. In Daggerfall and Oblivion, it's the traditional medieval European stuff, while Morrowind and Skyrim have some elements of the Roman empire and some alient stuff when it comes to Dunmer and Dwemer cultures and Morrowind-native creatures, which also cameo in Skyrim. I did also notice, though, that the Shivering Isles have some of that alien look from Morrowind, which is a welcome thing.

I think a lot of the core design principles as far as like the world building goes were established in arena and daggerfall, a lot of that still echoes through the other games.. I wish the level of writing from daggerfall had carried over but you know we're just for horses we'd all have $7 steaks.

The bar is set fairly low for expectations: make a title where player in-game choices have actual in-game consequences, both in environment and npc interactions

    • @Verchiel_
      @Verchiel_ Месяц назад

If only it were that simple.
Not in that they have to make consequences exist, but the fact every facet of the game has to be improved over skyrim, which luckily a lot has been done with fallout 4 and starfield, like it or hate it.
But a more realistic expectation is well everything improves. Writing for characters and stories, UI, combat, NPC AI, balancing, skill systems (starfield did pretty great with it's system), individual skills with their own mechanics, relationships (heavily improved courtesy of fallout 4), etc.
there's countless more and it doesn't just end with in game consequences then and there.

Gotta disagree with Elder Scrolls 6 having no way to meet fan expectations. Most fans I know, including myself, are expecting a disappointment. Bethesda went away from a single RPG model and has focused on mmo's for the cash stores. ESO had a bad launch, Fallout 76 is practically dead and had a bad launch, and Starfield was a huge letdown. Doesn't help that you got Todd Howard constantly making promises that can't be kept, citing features that don't exist.

The cut content/economy/"building ship components" info about Starfield is fascinating. If that had NOT been cut the gameplay loop would likely have been much, much better and the "empty planets" criticism might have fallen away as the player would be running all over those planets trying to find the best combinations of resource nodes to bolster their production chain. Of course, one COULD do this in Starfield but there was no really good purpose for it without more meaningful crafting/construction. Here's hoping this feature is resurrected in future patches or DLC.

This is the next TES game. It should align with the TES format along with something new, like they have done with each game. An unknown hero crawling out of some bad thing in order to become "the one" that alters history or the events or something along these lines.
It is a staple for this series.
I believe, since ESO is pretty successful, they should lean on the lore that has been built. Though ESO did do some lore breaking, it still feels smooth and within the parameters of the TES universe.
Except it's an MMO and there are tons of "heros".
I am expecting awesome. However, I am a realist, after 76 and Starfield and the buy out from M$, I believe the downhill started there.
ESO and Skyrim may be the last great things to come from the TES universe.
My sadness knows no bounds due to this. I love the series. I hope it remains good with TES6

As a huge fan of skyrim and elder scrolls as a franchise by extent, my way of coping is telling myself that fallout or starfield don't really determine what we'll get with TES6.
Every bethesda rpg tries something new as you said, they all feel distinct more or less while still being the same framework, imagining something like skyrim but with fallout 4's relationships and building and crafting mechanics, or starfield's perk system and more subtle additions like actually comprehensive settings menus and vaulting.
I'm not doomer about TES6, i expect a pretty darn fun game even if flawed to hell, like every, and i mean every bethesda rpg. Whether it's starfield our the prized cow morrowind.

22:36: Todd and Bethesda please hear this! Don't downgrade your previous systems (specially NPC reactivity and combat but not exclusively). Starfield had several systems that were downgraded even compared with Skyrim. For one, Skyrim's NPCs would react appropriately to what player did (e.g. pulling a weapon, casting magic, dropping items, wearing armor) whereas new ones felt lifeless. Additionally, it had killcams, dual-wielding, directional power attacks, etc. I.e. plz make *better* (immersive sim?!?) systems at top priority 🙏.

Tbf while there are absolutely moments where systems are pointlessly gutted, like FO4's anemic melee combat that made skyrim's combat seem actually decent.
But there are things they do still very much improve upon.
Starfield for example introduced in my opinion the best perk system in all of BGS RPGs.
The perks themselves might be rather poor in context of the game, but the whole idea of picking whatever perk you want while having to actually engage with the mechanic that perk belongs to, makes it a lot more dynamic and engaging as opposed to just. Casting illusion spells in whiterun to get perk points.

It felt to me that Starfield had fewer or downgraded systems except for the addition of ships, which was constrained by the loading screens.

@@Odisseia-hh2td I'm in no way denying that the individual perks were mostly pretty garbage, whether in creativity or just being close to useless in practice
I'm just saying I like how the perk system works with each perk having a challenge associated with it.
And it was very much fallout 4 that removed most of the melee depth. A single attack and a weird parry/block mechanic.
Vats and crits were just carried over from previous fallouts.
Best addition it had to melee is the weapon customization, which even that somehow got gutter in starfield. Although it doesn't really make one bit of sense to do anything melee in a futuristic space game.
