I've seen a few of the videos and your channel and I must say, I really like the vibe in your videos. Pleasant, calming, and easy-to-watch. I myself am not a big fan of nasi kerabu, so I'd always pick nasi lemak or nasi ayam when it's an option over nasi kerabu for meals. That said, if I do eat nasi kerabu I normally would request the sambal to be put in a separate container, or put aside so I can control how much of it is mixed in my rice. Hope to see more of your adventure trying new things in Malaysia 😎
Nice to see you explore n embracing our food culture, trying to speak Malay, eating rice with bare hand 👍 Try Nasi Dagang next, I've watched videos many Japanese seem to like it 👌
Speaking Malay to Kelantanese people is a gamble even if you speak good Malay. They might reply in their dialect & could cause confusion for people not familiar with the Kelantanese Malay 😄 You can actually ask for extra extra gravy for the Ayam Percik 🤤
Hi! That fluffy stuff is toasted coconut. The fishy taste probably comes from a type of fish sauce called 'budu' which is commonly eaten in the east coast of Malaysia and an important ingredient in Nasi Kerabu , By the way, when people say 'east Malaysia' it usually refers to the states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo island. We normally refer to the states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang as east coast of Malaysia 😊 Another side dish that is commonly eaten with Nasi Kerabu is Solok Lada which is stuffed chilli that you can see at 3:52 . I love that stuff! Ichi-kun is so cute! Sorry for writing so much. I love your videos.
@@suhaimi_othman1006 Actually the correct way is East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. East coast of Malaysia is still part of Sabah and Sarawak. Peninsular Malaysia is Malaya and East Malaysia or east coast of Malaysia is Sabah and Sarawak .
Ichi-kun so kawaii! I also do not like Coriander but somehow when I eat Nasi Kerabu, I try to mix all the vegetables with the rice thoroughly. Then it doesn't so bad..haha!!
Happy you are trying blue rice. Nasi kerabu is from the state of Kelantan in the East Coast of West Malaysia. East Malaysia is in Borneo where Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan are😊
But nasi kerabu shown is still lack few item like pepper stew (Solok Lada), garlic pickle (Jeruk Bawang), budu and usually with grilled meat or flour fried fish as originally used to be.
Actually there is no coriander in nasi kerabu. Never encounter coriander in nasi kerabu. But the leaf they use is Vietnamese mint/laksa leaf. Malay call it daun kesum. Other vegetables they put is cabbage, beansprout, long beans, lemongrass, might also have ginger torch/bunga kantan.
Yes the blue coloured food looks intimidating but not so much in Malaysia because we got lots of different coloured dish with natural ingredient to make the colour. However, that nasi kerabu colour looks artificial colouring because its bright blue, butterfly pea flower rice looks darker blue. You can judge the colour because you are familiar with pandan green, how it looks like in food compared to artificial green coloured food. Yes nasi kerabu original butterfly pea blue colour should have the 'same depth' as pandan colour. Next try other coloured rice dish like kuning/yellow (nasi ayam, nasi minyak, pulut kuning), merah/red (nasi tomato) and many other color including rainbow coloured of nasi hujan panas. Hujan panas means rain in a hot day, that will create a rainbow.
Also that chicken is Ayam Percik, speciality dish from Kelantan state. You can get it at most Pasar Malam but not all Pasar Malam have it. You can find local stalls open only in the morning at the roadside or sidewalks that sells breakfast only and if you can find East Coast stalls, mostly they will have Ayam Percik, Nasi Kerabu or Nasi Dagang.
BRIGHT blue colour is scary & poisonous looking !!!! Obviously lots of artificial food colouring used. NOT the natural blue colour from blue butterfly pea flower. Upon seeing such bright blue colour, it is best to NOT order & eat such coloured steamed rice.
hello Chaimaru Family…Nasi kerabu is nice healthy food…nasi dagang also nice…Next time if you dont like coriander leaf you can ask them not to put..its ok they wont scold u 😅…Coriander leaf in Malay is called ‘ daun ketumbar’..daun is leaf and ketumbar is coriander.
You guys can try the original Nasi Kerabu in Kelantan which is more affordable than this. 3 signature dishes from East-Coast Peninsular of Malaysia. 1. Nasi Kerabu (Kelantan) 2. Nasi Dagang (Terengganu) 3. Patin Masak Tempoyak (Pahang)

that nasi kerabu is a set. but you can also customize it such as you may dont like something(like coriander) you may asked them not to put in your set/plate.

the original recipe of nasi kerabu doesnt have coriander on it, but Im not sure if this warung included coriander in their nasi kerabu ingridient, btw for this price it quite expensive tbh, I usually can get like rm8-10 for 1 set of nasi kerabu with drink in area like Bangi or Shah alam
im impress that u know about butterfly peas.. the color, maybe they add some coloring? i guess nice choice of dish- that's ayam percik(bbq chicken + percik sauce (lemongrass, chilli,)).. try add solok ikan (the one with fish mixed with coconut, put in green chili) also u can try bbq beef. how to eat it, actually u have to kerabu(mix) it, everything with the gravy, salad. that is fish cracker (keropok keping), some ppl crumble it and mix them also just be careful, some foreigner becomes fat once they love Malaysian food xD
If the rice is bright blue, I think most likely it's from food colouring. If using butterfly pea flower to get the blue colour, which is used by traditional nasi kerabu, the blue is not as brightly coloured. This is disappointing because it seems they have taken a short cut to make the rice.
This is an eatery I will definitely NOT patronise. The bright blue coloured rice already turned me off from eating at this place. Makes me wonder how much more unhealthy excessive artificial food colourings & additives this vendor use in its food preparations.
I dont think they put corriender in it. Becuase it is not normal to have corriender in nasi kerabu. I believe it wasnt corriender but Daun Ulam Kayu which a traditional wild herb wich rarely available except at east coast malaysia’s wet markets.
Foreigners always eat without mix it all together when comes to eat nasi kerabu, kerabu means like salad u need mix its together like salad then only u eat it
