You and my Nan sat together on a ferry from a place called Devonport to Auckland way back in the 60's...you chatted all the way over and tried to talk my grandmother into a singing career. My Nan married an Australian man, a mining engineer.. my grandad, and my mum was born in Australia as was I and my brothers. She found this vid and told us to listen to it..she is 68 now with 3 sons, 2 daughters, 9 grandsons, 2 grandaughters and 1 great grandson and 2 great grandaughters (twins) and this was just one of the many fabulous little stories she told us about the country of her birth.

That's so awesome :) The ferry from Devonport to Auckland isn't too long, but she still made a mighty impression! :)

The best female singer New Zeland ever produced.

Alison Durbin is in a class all of her own and is easily the most successful female singer to come out of New Zealand in the 1960s. Her Trinity of biggest hits (I Have Loved Me a Man, Don't Come Any Closer and Games People Play) are superb examples of her talent, good choice of material and genre versatility. But if your measure of success is international fame, Lorde is the most successful kiwi female singer ever with a multi-million seller album, Pure Heroine (which has made Billboard's Top 200 biggest sellers of all time) and her followup, Melodramas (2017) selling over 750,000 worldwide. This CD also topped many Best Of 2017 lists and was nominated for the 2017 best album Grammy. Early days yet for this young artist.

Vocally, the best ever female voice to come out of NZ by a mile. That gravilly pitch was without peer. Would've and should've been an international star - but her demons would dominate and rob her of that success. She probably wouldn't make it in todays scene, as it's reliant upon exposure of flesh, foul language and auto tuning. But as far as exposing flesh, in her day, she would've matched any of the so-called stars of today - she was ( and may still be ) gorgeous.
