Morning Y'all, I'am all better now ! DeepSouth Homestead video , a few Scriptures, & a couple cups of coffee, come on daylight, we got work to do ! Thanks Danny & Miss Wanda
Oh many years ago there was an abandoned orchard we got peaches and tons of apples! My parents sprung for a press like yours, one or two sizes up. We took it out to friends on their farm, was spacewise a good idea. We let them keep it. Our free apples ran out as well, the Orchard became a new surf village. ... and I really don't have a lot of fruit I'd need it for, but it sure brings back the memories!!!
I want one if I can find a good supply of fruit and I think I can . With my two great grand daughters we make jelly and jam and give much of it to family members. I missed the wild elderberry harvest this year in Indiana but promised them that we won't do that again . Pap in Indiana .
Evening Mr Danny & Mrs Wanda, I'm in East Texas and we have muscadines here. My MoMA use to always make jelly. I honestly didn't know they were actually grapes. Glad you set me straight. I need to purchase one of these crushers . I love grape juice. Probably could do other juices also.
I have a press similar to yours but lighter duty. Found it many years ago at a garage sale! Love it but struggle with holding it firm, thank you for the ideas to secure it down! Exactly what I need!
We have one of the monster size presses that you have to use the wood blocks with and it is a bugger to move around and set up. Hubby wanted the big one because he was making wine and needed to press enough to get about 25 gallons of juice. Whew! that was a lot of work. We don't do that anymore, but I may have to suggest setting it back up to press apples for cider. Thanks for this one Danny and Wanda.
If you want to get the most juice out of your fruit, after you press to the maximum, pull the bag out shake it, replace in the press and repeat the pressing process
Hi Danny I used to make muscadine wine, and crushed then in a pan and used a press made out of PVC it worked good. I freeze liquid in plastic mayonnaise jars and try have never cracked.
My dad has one of these for squeezing grapes for wine. With seedy fruit you may want to use a paint strainer bag for a 5 gallon bucket. Otherwise you may have to lose some juice or pick some seeds out of your juice. The fuller you fill it the better it works. And add more fruit once you think you've got all the juice out. You will find there is more in there.
Luv ur press.....was actually trying to find some oak lumber and make a small one here using a small hydraulic jack......i have apples and grapes here on the property😊 and some small nanking cherry trees.
OH!!! I have one of those (well, I had it, son has it now). It belonged to my Grandmother. Its all weathered and worn but still works fine. I need to get a few of those bags tho. I use cheese cloth which is not convenient
Danny you're always thinking ahead with your DIY's. Miss Wanda has to be so excited about this new press versus the hand way of before. Never tasted them but I bet the juice and the jelly are real good tasting.
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing. I ordered one of those fruit presses from Better Choice Products a couple years ago. Never tried it and honestly forgot about until now. So thank you for sharing. You can take the spent grapes and make vinegar from it (or feed the pigs or chickens). I know when I'm making wine from my grapes, I don't have a crusher. I just take each grape and crush between 2 fingers as I go. Gives me a chance to inspect each one for blemishes or insects.
Thanks for this info. We juice with our electric juicer (the one we use for carrot, apple juice, etc.). Can the juice be canned without heating it first?
At our local feed store (VT) you can rent a press with the grinder by the day. I wish I had the fruit to make it worth it. I bet there must be other places that do this for folks who want to give it a try.
Hey I'm wanting to make scuppernong wine this year I just got my fruit press in I was just wondering if you take the seeds out before you pressed them or just leave them in
I see the crusher is still unavailable. Have you found another one to use this year 2021? The price on the press is too high for the amount of muscadines I would use it for. I hand slip pulp and seeds out of the crushed skins and then heat the pulp then the hot pulp goes through a colander leaving seeds behind to give me jam. I freeze or can more of it as pure pulp than with sweetened and pectin jam. If the black muscadines have edible skin, I grind them with food processor and add back to the pulp for dark purple pulp. The pulp is good for cobblers and other desserts, add to ice cream, cereal, or Jello.
Hi. Great demonstration n use of product. Nice set up on stand. The company should get ya'll to do an infomercial. I'm curious, had you tried using a food mill on your frozen, thawed grapes before? N what were the results. Peace to you and yours
I think we would like to try something like that for our fruit we have a different kind of juicer it works good but you never know until you try new equipment
Thanks for sharing y'all. If you have the time. Would you please, show us how it works with the pears. If it does half as good, as it did with the wild grapes.. We're getting a few. Peace
When we want fresh juice to drink, we use the chinois which is hard on Wanda's wrists. So This will give us the fresh juice we like to drink. Steaming is great if you are making jellies. Or if you want to add back a sweetener. It seems to take out the sweetness when steamed. You can still taste the fruit, so it makes great jellies.
The press is currently unavailable on Amazon😥 would be perfect for my orchard. Thanks for the video. I've been looking for a press and crusher it's nice to see someone showing how to one works.
@@DeepSouthHomestead Do you know if you lose the nutritional value of fruit juice if you steam it versus pressing the fruit. I have not found any good information on pressing versus steaming. Just wondering if you have.

I saw Ms Wanda has a ninja blender, if they wanted to play before their crusher got in they could pulse chop some apples and pears in that for the press.
I have my grandmother's cast iron meat grinder that I have used to crush fruit for jelly and jam. It takes time to process but the result is well crushed fruit with lots of juice. Also could you use the fine mesh laundry bags (for lingerie) if you can't find the press bags?
Yeap, already unavailable on Amazon. Seems to be the norm lately! Great idea. I will have to check back when they get some in stock. Maybe try the company directly? What is the name of the company that manufactures these? Thanks for any info.
Jomama 02 I will, thanks! I like to support local Mom and Pops whenever I can. The website for that company that Danny said is unavailable/offline. But we have several apple orchards in this area so I’m thinking to check with them to see what product/company they use.
And you would have a sour taste in them from the seeds. The purpose of extracting the juice with the chinois or the fruit press is to not crush the seeds. When the seeds are crushed a strong sour taste is added. We prefer a pure juice.

Chinois is pronounced Shin wah
Quinoa ( Keen wah) is a grain
