Grew up as a kid listening to this music 24/7 in Yaba Lagos Nigeria. The security man in front of our house plays this track and others all day. Heard he died recently may Allah bless his soul. We call him Dan Gariya as a kid don't know what that means though.
Even though I don't understand a word of what she sings, her voice and instrumentals has been imprinted in my head forever. Good Music they say cuts across tribes, age and breaks down barriers too. I can listen to Oumou Sangare all day.
Same here, I lived in Mile 12. If you know that place, it's has lots of Hausa/Fulanis. They use to serenade us with this song and others then.
I lived in Isolo until the 2000. We had a few "malams" who will serenade us with their guitars. They were always happy to give me an extra "baba Dudu". Those guys decorated our childhood. Sending them blessings and peace. Thanks for sharing your story.

La première fois j'ai écouté ce morceau Moussolou de l'album éponyme, c'était à la Radio France Internatonale dans l'émission En sol majeur de Yasmine Chouaki. J'en étais très ému. Après elle a été reçue par Claudy Siar dans Couleur tropicale toujours sur Rfi. Dans cette émission, la diva était revenue sur les circonstance de la composition de ce moreau. J'ai encore un enregistrement de cette émission. Quand j'ai l'angoisse de la panne blanche c'est Oumou qui me dépanne. Oumou Sangaré est une icône de la musique africaine. Je nourris le rêve de la rencontrer un de ces jours. J'ai un cousin qui adore également sa musique.

I live in Brazil, a country with strong ties to Africa, especially in the North of the country and the state of Bahia. Due to the notorious slave trade, Brazil has this mix of races that makes the country so different and so interesting.
