@@zach4627- He didn't kidnap her. He lied to her and took advantage of her amnesia. Yet also her husband at that time didn't even really bother to look for her either.
One thing about watching movies like this back then was that we didn't worry about the legalities or the moralities the characters were breaking for one reason. It is a movie it's not even a movie based on a true story it is a movie. So we just enjoyed it for what it was and didn't concentrate on the "what it's " if it was real.
Hey kiddos beautiful response, as always. Here's an FYI. Roddy McDowell, the actor who played the butler giving Goldie that 'perspective' speech? Is also the actor who portrayed the original Caesar, in the original "Planet of the Apes" in 1968. Also, I have seen everything Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have done since he was a child actor kicking Elvis in the shin thru his Disney days...& Goldie from when she was the giggling painted bikini girl, on "Laugh-In", to that heart-wrending flick, "Sugarland Express" to now....again, I've never been disappointed watching my favorites w/you all.🤟
Great observation: back in the 80's, you had a good movie, you moved on and didn't turn it into a saga. Also, 29 was not intended as her real age: "You will always be 29 to me" - you did it yourself: "I thought you were a 2000s baby"
This movie was filmed in Fort Bragg, CA. My grandparents owned a house on Noyo bluff (the same harbor) and this movie was a HUGE deal there for years and still kind of is, you can see photos of the cast in some of the restaurants.
11:28 "This looks like a _real house."_ You should see the movie _The Lake House._ They built a house for that movie, and tore it down when they were done.
Love Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel in this movie❤…glad you guys reacted to this movie. Miss movies like this. Gather its inspired from Taming of the Shrew
I don't know what the inspiration was, but to me it feels like a "modern" retelling of some old fairy tale type story. think, prince and the pauper, and such. I could totally imagine some old story of a princess or prince ending up in a situation like this for some peasant merchant or farmer. or something along those lines. but either way, i loved this as a kid, and certainly was one of my mom's favorite films at the time. it was on alot back then.
Russel tells her the she is 29 years old. the oldest SON is 13 ...so she ws 16 at his Birth, He also says she was in the NAVY , if she enlisted at 18 she must have Abandoned the family after 2 years served the minimum 3 years, and then had MORE children , even tho its Clear the 2nd Child is at least 11 or 12 so IT doesnt make sense
The butler was played by Roddy McDowell a film legend having worked since the Golden Age of film as a Child Star. He was in such films as the Original Planet of the Apes films, Poseidon Adventure, the Fright Night films and voiced Mad Hatter in Batman the Animated Series.
I had watched the Hindi version (copied obviously) of this movie when I was a kid. Salman Khan played Kurt Russel's character and Neelam was the female lead.
The 80's were great. This was just a fun movie. Never thought about it being about kidnapping until I read that a few years ago. Doesn't change my opinion though.
I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid - too young to notice the stuff that wasn’t age appropriate for me back then! My mom compiled a Goldie Hawn VHS tape with Overboard, Housesitter, and Bird on a Wire.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell first crossed paths in the '60s when they were working on the Disney movie musical "The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band" in 1967. Kurt was 16 years old and she was 21. They remember each other from that production but had no idea they would end up together one day.
Jaby Kurt Russel's son was in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. John Walker. Captain America. There was an Overboard 2018 reboot but never a sequel. Goldie Hawn said last week that she wants to make a movie with her whole family.
Young people are so ridiculously intolerant today. In those days, any innocent awkward situation like this one was entertaining. We understood the structure of the humor back then. Today they freak out and run screaming into a wall. People freak over Luke kissing his sister, Leia. They go nuts at Marty McFly's mother getting hot for him when she was 17 and was nobody's mother. For heaven's sake they call Prince Charming a rapist for kissing Sleeping Beauty non-consensually even if it does save her life. People hate to think; they hate enjoying anything; they just want to hate everything. But for some reason, they think comic book movies are good. Go figure. It's a huge loss to our collective well-being. Thank you for seeing the humor in this.
Great reaction to this comedy classic you two. Goldie and Kurt had so much fun making this film together and would offen improv many of their lines in their scenes.
Hello Jaby & the super lovely Vivian!🌹This is one of my favorite comedies, and it often gets overlooked.😉 Their real life son Wyatt Russell plays the new Captain America in the miniseries "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier". Probably this film and "Private Benjamin" (1980) are my two favorite Goldie Hawn films. This is another film where Goldie transitions throughout the film. It also inspired a TV series of the same name. Great reactions to this well made comedy, CinePals!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The thing I didn't believe is that you did not know they were together. They have been happily unmarried for years. Wyatt, the son you mentioned is the actor who plays the "bad" Captain America in the The Falcon and Winter Soldier series.
The way they would 'photoshop' was photograph and print the background and the face at the same scale, physically cut out the face and glue it on to the body, photograph the new image and make a print. You can tell they used her police photo on the family pictures. 😊
I love this movie. It is a guilty pleasure of mine. Anytime I'm feeling down I'll throw it on just so I can have a good laugh. I refuse to watch the new one. You just can't beat Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell! If you guys enjoy this one you guys should check out bird on a wire
I can't believe Jaby hasn't seen Pretty Woman! Actress Kate Hudson is Kurt & Goldie's daughter. Overboard is a special movie, loved it since its first release and it warms my heart that people are revisiting it or watching it for the first time as it seemed it was being forgotten with time... The parallels with Pretty Woman can't be ignored but I think that's because the director is the same- Garry Marshall.
I love this film. Watched it a million times. I love when she goes off on the teacher. Her "MOVE!" always sends chills down my spine. A1 reaction!! I own blank check on vhs 😂 Watch Death Becomes Her, Private Benjamin. Just 2 of my fave Goldie Hawn films. Comedic genius imo.
WOW!!! One of my favorite movies!!! (I bet you have a fascinating internal criteria for reactions!) WOW again, that friend *is* the guy from #NBCFriends ! Right, he's the super who taught Joey how to dance! This is one of maybe 30 non-superhero movies that I've seen more than 10 times!!!! I remembered when this movie *lived* on HBO and later cable in general and early '90s syndication. THANKS for this!!!!
Goldie Hawn’s breakout film was 1980’s Private Benjamin. Extremely funny and well written. I don’t think anyone has reacted to it yet. You should be the first.
Obviously it's wrong an I disagree. Nobody deserves that. Reality would be lawsuits and jail time. With that said wow. She was 41 and that drop dead gorgeous. Amazing.
If you have seen it, it is not a first time watching. Your words not mine. I am so sick of reactors trying to pass of first times when they've seen it. Unsubscribed.
Kurt and Goldie have been together on and off for a long time, I'm sure they've spilt up more than once but still remains friends, I've lost count how many times I've seen this film.
A lot of people don't like it, but the remake from a few years ago can also be viewed as a semi-sequel. There's one line that references this movie directly.
Jaby, what did you mean when you said you miss Kurt Russell? He didn't go anywhere. Do you mean when he was young? And Vivian, I didn't know you were born in 1987. I thought I read somewhere you were born in 2001.
I can't believe that you two didn't know that Goldie hawn and Kurt Russell were together and had children together and separately. Please check out who a few of their kids are, especially wyatt? Lol

This movies great but it’s great for another reason besides the movie… it joined these two for what I’m calling as forever based on how they still seem… can’t deny the chemistry in this one

1:55 “ I don’t think I’ve ever seen her play mean or bïtchy”….. Enters Goldie Hawn in Death becomes Her 🎬😍😂
But in "death becomes her" Meryl streep is so meaner. Goldie hawn is just a victim of meryl streep character rudeness.
This movie was so silly and so much fun. Remaking it was just stupid. It was perfect as it was.
I liked the remake 😅 it's fun in it's own way.

Roddy McDowall played Cornelius in Planet of the Apes, not Caesar. Although he did play Caesar in "Battle for the Planet of the Apes."
McDowell was a child actor. I believe he was in the original Lassie movie (correct me if I'm wrong).
FYI: Russell played minor league baseball for a while, so, because of his athleticism, it wouldn't be surprising if he dove into the water.
Great observation: back in the 80's, you had a good movie, you moved on and didn't turn it into a saga.

Kate Hudson is their daughter. Well Kurts a step dad, but Kate thinks of him as her father.
As she should. We would all love Kurt Russell for a father

Captain Ron next?
Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase in Foul Play. Gotta check it out. Hilarious guest appearances by Dudley Moore and Burgess Meredith too
I loved how Goldie laid that snotty teacher out ❤❤❤❤
You should watch Goldie Hawn in some of her early films, "Cactus Flower," "Butterflies Are Free," "Private Benjamin," and "Seems Like Old Times."

It's a joke.. the old not aging past 29 joke... Obviously both were considerably older than 29 😂
The movie Wildcats was also a fun Goldie Hawn film.
When she first met him, she was 21 and he was 16.
A couple other good 80s Goldie movies are Private Benjamin and Wildcats
Great movie!!! Can watch over and over.......
Joe, the Pee-Wee Herman kid, yelling "YOU SAID MOMS DON'T LEAVE!" always brings a tear to my eye..😢 I love this movie..

Private Benjamin.
Please review that movie. Thank you.

This movie was remade a few years ago with the roles reversed. It was the man that fell overboard.

Kurt and Goldie were the perfect couple for this movie.
And in real life also still going ✌️🤙🤟
They still are!

You’re absolutely right. I remember my Mom turning 29 for years every birthday.
Right. Goldie was in her 40s here, I think 😂
Private Benjamin 1980 One of Goldie Hawn's funniest movies.
Foul Play though!
"A little girl."
Can't believe you wouldn't include the final line of the movie for all the emotion it brings.
I know that was disappointing

"Man overboard is kissing woman overboard! It's a hell of a day at sea sir!"😂
For so few lines, that guy was hilarious!
Private Benjamin eventually... Perhaps?
Edit: Vivian's from Washington?! I knew I liked her. 🤩

I can't believe you didn't show the actual happy ending. The one thing he could give her.

The story is basically King Thrushbeard from Grimm's Fairy Tales.
With a little bit of The Taming of the Shrew thrown in for good measure.
I was going to say 'screwball' comedies of the 30's / 40's, but that's a deep pull.
