@Blood0cean This is a skit, Dave knew to use a pen. They did the exact same routine with Conan. Pen and Teller does a few rounds, and when its Dave's turn, it activates. The trick is, they somehow cut all the strings before it was Dave's turn.
Yes saw something from Penn where he recalls his I think next visit and Dave asked them to really freak him out and not tell him before hand what they were going to do. Penn told the producer and he said no way can you do this, but the producer asked Dave and he said let them do it. Its all here. ruclips.net/video/d6XDMdAoRvo/видео.html
Penn and Teller did this same trick in the UK 4 years later with Jonathon Ross. He also decided to use a pencil as well, which makes me think they were briefed on the trick. ruclips.net/video/dn0czBL8OAc/видео.html
im guessing that was an accident since it was live, especially with the quick cut back... tricasters can be tricky sometimes if you're setting up a preview of the next shot, and actually cut to it by accident
That was an attempt to get a close up shot of the trap that Teller was holding up. By the time the camera operator got the shot, Teller put the trap down. Just one of those things in live television.
Is the P&T Showtime special the one where they put some guy in a big tube that ran around the back of the stage, and then I think fed rats in behind him?
ruclips.net/video/I9luf0ZHtHo/видео.html Teller has his hand underneath the lazy susan for a fair while there, which doesn't seem to be necessary. So I'd guess all the strings were set up until the point Teller did his distraction, then Teller set them all up to fire on the next try. Letterman must have known to not use his finger for that attempt. Definitely a "Don't try this at home" type trick though. I wonder how many people actually did try this themselves, only to get hurt?
I think there was only one that was safe and it was marked in some way that only P&T would know. The distraction Teller did with the blood for sure had something to do with it thought. I have seen this truck done by them several times and they do the blood thing every time so it has to be a distraction for something.
@@TheJantoregin If they go to use their finger they'll probably say "do you want to use a pen instead just in case, it is your first time after all..."

The bandage on Teller's finger adds realism.
From the stories Penn has told, Letterman preferred not to know ahead of time what the trick was. So his reactions here were probably genuine.
did teller mess up the trap or was that on purpose? penn seemed to be dissapointed and both seemed a little ashamed like they messed up.

@@chartle1 It wasn't this trick. The trick the producer said 'no way' involved cockroaches.

It's not often that you see a guest out talk Letterman. That's one of Penn's best talents.
I love that they actually provided a how-to guide for kids to make it at home 😂
They're so considerate 🤣
Those were the days
Penn's voice sounds slightly different but Teller sounds EXACTLY the same
Wtf Teller didn't eve... Oh I get it! Nice try but you're not going to wooosh me!
Sorry. Have a good day at school. God bless you!

Do you just comment this on every single pen and teller performance?
Penn was a lot younger here
2:22 Odd cut to shoulder there.

penn and teller's magic is almost secondary to their comedic timing and well orchistrated routines.
it's not juggling, it's called misdirection ;)

Teller speaks! Well, he screams.
Just like Tom in Tom & Jerry
A good quality scream.. In my opinion.
Love the old PnT. Hilarious.
This Penn hairstyle always makes me laugh. He's got his bangs in a ponytail. 🤣🤣🤣
love them both
The poofy bangs!!! Dam stylin bro!
teller spoke! kinda XD
Dave laughed so hard.
Haha, Dave loved that one
Penn’s crazy hair ...

Dave loved that
What is with all the shrubbery in front of Dave’s desk?
Their South American ficus bushes

LAHegarty ‘nuff said!
This show was filmed in the middle of a jungle
Dave was secretly a member of the Knights Who Say Ni.
Any theories about the actual trick?

Yeah but how do they know for sure the guest wont use their actual finger? I thought they never did tricks that were actually dangerous

TELLER MADE A SOUND
I'm making one
I don't recognize Penn's voice here at all. Even when compared to other of their 80's or 90's performances.
His throat doctor told him his larynx is all scar tissue. He admitted that he used to cough up blood sometimes after shows.
Jesus, penn doesn't sound gravelly as all fuck.
Wtf is that on his forehead?
Penn kinda sounds like chris farley here.
I spit more rhymes than a lazy susan,
and I'm innocent 'til my guilt is proven.
