Stupid rule or policy. Looks like the Transit security agent of Mumbai made up this rules. A small Drone is neither a weapon nor a hazardous item and no country's airport authorities in the world has declared or claimed as such. I had my fare share of harassment from the Bombay immigration & security officers when I used to visit India often long time ago; especially when I am arriving at Bombay airport, I used to spend 3 - 4 hours at the immigration and security check points. My check-in and carry-on luggage were opened and each and every items were checked thoroughly, one by one and than the immigration officers interrogates me with all kinds of stupid and idiotic questions. They were so shameless, they openly ask $200 for a quick immigration & security clearance which I flatly refused. I remember vividly, once they even threatened me to send me back to USA on a stupid pretext that my passport and visa were fake. I laughed on their faces and told the officers you should be arresting me instead of sending me back. Because of such harassment by the immigration & security officers at the Indian airports, I stopped visiting India; I haven't visited India for more than 15 - 20 years. I have heard from Indians in USA that things have changed for better at the Indian airports. I am pondering a visit to India again.
Took the Qatar Airways from Lahore Pakistan to New York JFK on November 3rd. This was the first time I flew with Qatar , enjoyed it to thoroughly. Liked the Doha Hamad Intl. good video

Although a drone doesn't cause any security threat, they do not allow electronics in or as hand baggage, except mobile and laptop. You could have checked with the airline prior to starting the journey. I can imagine how tense you had been about the costly drone...
