Thanks Emry...I really try my best to show and use the equipment on the farm to it's fullest...in case someone is looking for something to make life easier...now if I could get the wind to stop blowing 30 mph today I might get some work done! AhhhhH!!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer it's too bad the couplers on skid steer not same like the tractor has wich probbly made alot easyer wich my buddys kubota tractor with loader has same couplers on the loader as the svls woooooo
I went to Junior College in Sedalia, Missouri plus I worked full time at DeLong Steel Co making steel trusses from 3 to 11:30 pm. I carried a 16 hr load each semester plus my first class started at 7:30 am. This was back in 1971 and 1972. I had a 1969 SS Camaro candy apple red with the black hockey stick stripe down the side, four speed, cowl air induction and Craiger super sport wheels plus a slightly modified 350 cui engine. Of course the engine had headers and the exhaust system from a Z 28 Camaro which had no mufflers but looked like links of sausages. I had a blast driving around Sedalia till I got two tickets in one day. I am 69 years old and that was the only two tickets I ever had. Sedalia holds lots of memories for me.
great team effort . Nice to see Mrs. stoney ridge get in on the camera action. that tool is cool and efficient , wow . It will make quick and safe work of the trash trees about your homestead.
Since you are using the implements on both machines you should make adapter hoses for each machine. One set the stays with the tractor and another set for the skid steer. That way you do not have to swap the connectors each time. The adapter hose only needs to be 6 to 10 inches long.
I have a JD 270 and a JD 5065E both with skid steer attachments for everything on my farm. Just so you know, you can buy a conversion set of couplers to attach agriculture hydraulic fittings to a skid steer. I bought them so I can keep all implements with the same hydraulic fittings and can use on both tractor or skid steer whenever I want without having to change them. Love the videos!
For your information the cuplers on the skid steer are high volume cuplers while the tractor cuplers are not high volume. The reason is most equipment on a skid steer require high volume hydraulic oil to operate.
Yes and no. SS uses hi flow hydraulics in most cases, depending on the pump it's equipped with. Tractor hydraulic pumps are often lower flow. The couplers depend on the threads at the hose's end. There are many different types of fittings that can be installed on various machines. Best to find out from the brand manufacturer what threads/fittings are used on their model/brand. Don't try to force a coupler or other fitting onto a threaded hose end unless you like leaks/trouble.
@@carterjames5385 I agree with you. The cuppler that i saw in the video is a high volume cuppler. Now for the threaded part, the same type of cuppler (tractor cuppler) can have pipe thread,JIC, or O-ring type. Yes as you said be careful what the type of thread is on the end of the hose or pipe. I had to fix an aluminum hydraulic manifold (three electric SCV valves) that the customer had inserted pipe thread in 0-ring type hole, that caused a major oil leak.
Hey Josh thank you for the video and thank you mrs. Stoney Ridge for filming the video because I enjoyed the video thank you both and that is a great tool there
Wow! That thing is awesome! Talk about making short work out of a big job, we used to go around the edges of the field with a chainsaw and a polesaw but this is way faster. Thx for sharing Josh!
Great video. When you mentioned what to do with the old trees you could have mentioned the option of using a 3 point wood chipper and chipping the trees and then use the wood chips as a soil improver, especially effective if you have any manure to mix with it and form a fantastic compost. Maybe you could demonstrate a Woodmaxx MX-9900.
Great video Josh, it's a never ending battle keeping the fields from shrinking but that mini clip makes it look more fun. Great to see Mrs. Stoney Ridge making an appearance, too.
Doesn't take much oil to make a big mess. The flat face couplers are great for dirty conditions as they seal when disconnecting. One of the biggest enemies of a hydraulic system is dirt. Some of the others are water, air and heat. Also the ones I use are able to be locked in place by turning the outer ring on the female side. That way out can't bump them off by accident.
Vise grips, be sure to pull the handle angle the direction it needs tightened or loosened, when you put them on backward the jaws get stretched the wrong way my friend. backward pushes the jaw open, correctly it pulls them tighter. Tools are your friend so treat them correctly!
Josh, How good are you at judging length? Cut the tree as high as the clipper will reach, then drop down about 18" clip, repeat until you get to the ground. It's really a firewood machine. Love you channel!
Thank God for RUclips. Inner-city folk can finally get a real-life glimpse of what farming is really like (and how hard it is...hear that, Bloomberg?).
I just started trimming low hanging branches around the edge of my property. Loppers, hand pole saw, weed-eater pole saw, and chainsaw. At least I'll lose some weight by the time I'm done.
That’s a nice tool a friend of mine has a tree shear that allows you to hold the cut pieces so you can place them elsewhere so it is not free to fall when cut
As stated above those are ORB fittings also known as SAE now. Only reason to specify is there is another type of common O-ring hyd fitting but it is O-ring face and looks completely different but is important if talking on the phone or something.
I dont know if you watch the Armsfamily homesteed channel but tey also have great tools for your skid steer. Both cutting trees and stump removale. You might find some thing you could use on your farm.
That would be a great piece of equipment to have! I am not sure if I would put new tires on your skidsteer until you a ready to have the tracks off for an extended period of time because the tracks will chew up your new tires some. Thanks Mrs. Stoney Ridge for the camera work!!
Pipe thread, jic, o ring, and oring boss are the most common all the threads are different with the exception of jic and o ring are very similar in a pinch if u need an o ring fitting u can use a jic and slip an oring on it. It works but does slightly damage the threads but gets u outa a pinch
Looks like a useful attachment for certain situations. Not a fan of the lack of control for felling direction on upright trees though. Kinda think the hydraulic fittings on the cylinder that runs the shear are a little susceptible to damage. See 12:35 or so for how they could get damaged. Anyway, pretty neat!
Those river birches are beautiful.... In fact I have planted them at the old house and the new one. I don't think they're native here, but they sure grow like they are.
You might already know this but a word of advice is to always expect a chunk of wood to come flying at you when using that. I know it's got a cutting shear, but on excavators when you are grabbing some types of wood, like maple, they sometimes explode sort of and sling a piece at you, really hard. Someone I know got hit in the stomach with a chunk of wood like that. It almost hurt him bad. I just thought I'd pass along a little knowledge from my own experiences. I hope it helps. Enjoyed the video. I like that shear.👍🏻
What is the max hydraulic pressure of the skid steer and for the cutter? Might be worth the money to build you a steel door that you could slide up and down in a track to block limbs and loose debris falling.
We've been running grouser cam tracks on our skid steer forestry mulcher you might want to take up the tension on those tracks some supposed to have 2in if you put a straight edge across the top you can run a little loose but man they are really loose okay we also used run-flat tires great combination
Nice piece of equipment but one thing I noticed was the tracks were tearing up the ground especially your nice gravel driveway. Hats off to your good camera person, nice job....
PS, why do you use Adjustable wrenches UPSIDE DOWN??? (the load hoes against the upper jaw frame, you'll smear fewer news/bolts and may even break the tool if you don't! )
Unless I have missed it I have not seen or heard how Mrs stoney ridgge's arm is doing since she had broken it thanks for all your videos they are great
Funny, I seldom hear the same music from channel to channel. When I do, it's a usually a similar channel theme. But your background music is the same as Kevins on "310 pilot". Good music, I just smile when I hear it. because the channels are so different! Enjoy your channel (Thanks to Seth.) Cheers
With new attachment you going be putting woodstove in help heat or outdoor boiler. You need get miss stoney ridge in that loader. She might show you up. Lol
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I do think this would be great for clearing yaupon from my underbrush. I have some that clump together and are 6 to 8 inches in diameter. If I can’t pull them up I can just lop them off at the ground. Thanks again. Great job Josh!! 👍
I hope you got solid tires or you're going to fill the tires because if you don't you'll come out one day and have a flat tire and then it's an all-day event fixing a flat. You said you're getting new tires for the skid steer. I only used older tires with the tracks because you can tear up near tires with the tracks.

darn right...every year fields shrink up...something like this can help the guy who can't run a chainsaw all day long...and will do twice the work!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yep, and as I get tired, trimming those stumps flush to the ground ends up with the dirt flying and me filing the chain!

Never knew there was so many different types of couplings for tractors and skid steers. Your videos are very educational.
yup, half a dozen at least; Cat, John Deer (both 0 ring type), Parker Hanifer, JIC (Japanese Industrial Commission? ), Weatherhead, ect
Every one has to use a different connection for ( not this but forgot the other word) coppy right reasons
