Hello Jeri B I JUST FINISHED A 100 PLUS Vintage quilt , your video. Just popped up as I sat to rest ! Awww Love to chat w you about the how tools. I Looove doing handwork!
I think your repairs are great. Well done when you go back to quilt them they well work great. I think new backing and binding in the ariginal green will be beautiful. Well done
I have my grandmothers handsewn quilt. It’s a English Paper Piece style approximately 70 years old - at least. I am not a seamstress I don’t even so buttons on. So I am overwhelmed and in tears not knowing what to do. Parts of the hexagon are rotted off while other parts are just fine but the fabric is worn. It is a king size quilt it’s very large. I don’t know how to approach this I think I’m going to give it to my sister who is a seamstress. I hate to part with it but it seems to keep it in the family it is what I’ll have to do. Thank you for sharing
I was at the fabric store about a year ago and the employee and I were talking about quilts. She told me how her cousin had cut up their grandmothers quilt and framed sections so that everyone could have a section of it. I need to start working on the quilt again. I go through overwhelming times with it or get busy with other projects. Maybe you could ask your sister to repair it and maybe divide it in half so that you both have a smaller quilt. Just a thought. Or maybe you could find a quilter through a quilting store to help you repair the parts that have disintegrated.
Or check to see what kind of quilting guilds there are in your area. If you look and ask around you might be able to find someone who will help you repair it inexpensively because they love quilts.
May I suggest if you want the worn look of the fabric to match better. Go to thrift stores and get old men’s shirts to make the new blocks they will fall right in with the used looks of the original material
Hello! I heard about you from Mornings with Granny and thought I'd check out your channel! I also have some family heirloom quilts to repair, so this video is perfect for me! I completely understand about the panic when you hear it tear!!! :)

So much history and love in that quilt!

I’m working on a part 3 right now that I hope to put on RUclips later this week that goes more in depth.
I am from Granny's channel too. Her aunt makes quilts I think.
Did you remove the old fabric or sew the new fabric over it? Sorry if a dumb question. I'm a newbie.
I sewed the new fabric over the damaged old pieces. When I find fabric I like for the back I will put new over old on the back.
