  • In this lesson you’ll learn about casual speech (반말), and how you can speak Korean together with your closest friends. You’ll also get a quick overview of all the politeness levels we’ve learned so far. You’ll learn casual ways to refer to yourself and your friends, as well as how to say “you.” And you’ll learn how to say “yes” and “no” when using casual speech, along with how to use (or not use) the object marker. You’ll also learn casual ways to say “Let’s,” and how to make commands.

    Hi, Billy. I’ve studied Lesson 72 about 데 form, but I’m confused about its usage in the conversation practice in this lesson - when 제니 says, “안 만났는데. 왜?” and “정말?…나랑
    통화했는데.” Would it have been incorrect or lost meaning if she said, “안 만났어. 왜?” or, in the other sentence, “…통화했어”? Or, is the 데 form used there to show contrast between her statements and 지수의 statements? Unsure…please help and thank you in advance!

      I recommend re-watching the slide called "데 or 지만" in Lesson 72 for this specific usage of the 데 form.

    I've been speaking in 존댓말 so long, this feels like learning a new language. This is useful for me, though, because I work a lot with animals and 반말 is correct when speaking to a dog or cat. Isn't 반말 also commonly used when speaking to yourself? I could be wrong about that though.

    • @Annan-Marco
      @Annan-Marco 3 года назад +5

      네 맞습니다! You are right! You use 반말 when you are speaking to yourself or even in your thoughts.

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  3 года назад +9

      Yes, you'll also use 반말 speaking *down* to anyone - this includes pets. You definitely don't want to speak politely to someone's pet, and then look right at their owner and speak using the same level of politeness :-P That would be a very embarrassing mistake.

      @@GoBillyKorean No worries. You have taught me well on that point! My days of 존댓말 with animals are long over (fortunately, that was only when I was in a rescue situation and no one else knew any better...which is also why I made that mistake in the first place... be careful who you listen to when learning a new language... what I was told back then was completely inappropriate.)

    Hello Billy,

      In the sentence 제가 만든 거예요.(I made it) why does it use 거예요( will)?

    At 3:25, you say 는 is the subject marker but that’s a mistake right? Isn’t it the topic marker? Sorry if I misunderstood something.

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  Год назад

      Yes, that's a mistake. It should say "topic."

      There was a previous lesson that explained how that part worked, but that grammar form can also mean "could" or "would."
