  • Judges at the Court of Appeal upheld the whole life sentence handed to knife killer Khairi Saadallah.
Saadallah stabbed three men - teacher James Furlong, pharmaceutical manager Joe Ritchie-Bennett and scientist David Wall - to death and seriously injured three others in the town's Forbury Gardens.
He was jailed in January 2021 after admitting murder and attempted murder.
His QC, Rossano Scamardella, told a panel of judges at the Royal Courts of Justice in central London, that the whole life term handed down was unwarranted because Saadallah had not carried out extensive planning for the attack.
But the Lord Chief Justice, sitting with Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb and Mr Justice Henshaw, ruled the sentencing judge was fully justified when imposing punishment.
