The freedom races have come so far. From crash derby in first laps in the first race, till the competitors settling down and making races out of it. Great concept from the beginning racing crown vics. I'm just glad to see actual racers like Deegan hanging in there with the diverse field of drivers that have stuck in there since the beginning as well. Most of the actual race car drivers didn't stick with the freedom race concept. Deegan has thankfully and it shows his humbleness and just want to have fun spirit. Congrats Deegan, congrats cleetus for seeing his vision coming through. On to Bristol!
@@jbohler I hear you. But those cars aren't that fast and they have caged them very well. I think moreso than a risk of getting hurt, thier sponsors and team owners probably strongly advised against it. But like I said, the quality of racing has come so far since the first one. Fun for all to enjoy.
@@colliecollie6822 compared to actual short track cars(including the ford Vic’s already raced at Indianapolis speedrome, even the little rinky dink clapped out 4 cylinders) the "cages" in these cars are a joke. No x brace in the doors, no dash bar... they're just an 8 point rollbar typically found in drag cars. The speeds they’re going are still plenty enough to get someone hurt without a proper roll cage.
@@trevor4533 granted better cages could be constructed, the ones built really would only help in a roll over. They didn't have those even for the danger ranger races and those were the only races I saw any competitors roll over in. The crown vics, although gutted, still have federal transportation approved door reinforcement structures. I've raced open wheel go carts that run faster with no protection at various tracks at the IRP as well as mini-cup cars. IRP would not approve the Indy 800 without due diligence and appropriate insurance. And you can bet all parties have an all inclusive waiver to be signed. Regardless, it's so entertaining to watch.

If those Crown vics had sufficient door reinforcement structures, than why would they need a full roll cage when their stock ford class runs at indianapolis speedrome? A much smaller track than what is shown here. The cars used in Cleetus's novelty races are nowhere near the benchmark for safety. If anything, he should consider himself lucky nothing unfortunate has happened yet.

@@esqueue yeah running a Crown Vic to redline in 2nd looses power. Like 5k is the sweet spot any higher u just get noise and no extra power. Putting it in drive with over drive off was the fastest way around.
Spencer and Nick "Savage" must have been studying. They actually sounded like they knew a little bit about "Stock car" racing for once. Good for them. It's also good for us and all the spectators and PPV watchers.

@@trevor4533 I wouldn't be too sure about that. NASCAR is fading into irrelevance faster than most people realize. I was a huge NASCAR nut for decades (since the 70s) but it's trash now. I used to spend a fortune on it but now I won't watch it on free TV.
They were carrying some decent speed!! I tell ya Cleetus has really proved that w the right type of promoting u can keep a race track alive!!

Crown Vics really can't be "tuned" stock ecu is pretty limiting.
