- Artist Hera Büyüktaşçıyan takes us on a tour of Istanbul, the city where she lives and works. Ever since a child, walking has been a way for her to better understand this complex city, which she describes as a "living organism".
In this film, we join Büyüktaşçıyan on her daily commute from the island of Heybeliada. Arriving in the city, she explores the old district of Fatih, encountering and observing paper collectors and carpet sellers, Byzantine churches converted into Ottoman mosques.
In a visit to her studio, we see how the constant layering of histories, communities and acts of resistance in Istanbul - and in other cities like Toronto and Lahore - inspires her artwork, which ranges from forests of coiled carpets to stop-motion animation and drawing.

Bravo
What a magnificent journey that she has to be allowed to accompany.
I love this series. Seeing Istanbul through the eyes of this artist is inspiring ! ♥
❤
Turkey is an amazing country, it's a shame the Islamic strictness.
she has a whole another take on the city that includes 20 million people, while just passing through the streets, squares you don't see a certain type of perspective in things. felt very lucky to hit this video
I really like her work. She does instalations with stones. And coincidentally her surname in exact translation" big stone seller" yan in Armenian means Son of (somebody son of big stone seller, son of barber, ). She has this passion of a city like istanbul
Hera Buyuktasciyan’s vision, perspective and soul are so profoundly integrated into her work.. 👏👏👏
A one of a kind city for sure. I loved to be there even thought it was for a day and a half. I have to come back. What an artist, so connected with herself.
Istanbul, our lovely city ♥
The way she sees deserted and neglected structures inspired me as an Istanbuler. There are so many things to uncover and rediscover in Istanbul.
Such a wonder-filled perspective! Truly touching and beautiful, I am inspired✨💐✨💐✨💐🙏🏻🤗

The stones remember, store and recall. That is true.
might as well be a writer . words
😍👍
I really like her work - it has a lot to say, and it's strangely beautiful. But, I must admit my ambivalence on the subject of 'ghosts'. If ever a city was 'haunted', it would be Istanbul. Of course, the same could be said for any continuously-inhabited, ancient city - London, or Cairo, for instance - but, there is something very different about Istanbul and its history, art, and architecture. Over a thousand years of Byzantium lie underneath, and scattered about, the heart of this modern city. Just my observation... :)
