- Hi everyone, welcome to part 3 of this large commissioned abstract painting by Toronto abstract artist Lori Mirabelli. In this video, I'm working on adding layers of transparent acrylic washes /glazes using Liquitex glazing medium and Golden High flow medium. I'm using a large stain brush from Home Depot and a bowl scraper that I purchased from coldwaxacademy.com/shop/.
You are only seeing two of the panels together in this video. There are 3 in total. The overall size of this piece will be 18x13 feet.
My apologies for my sound, I don't believe I had my Yeti set up properly this morning. This is what happens when you rise at 4:30 am to edit a youtube video 😂😂
Pop over to my Instagram to see some other photos of the painting.
Here is the finished painting installed

When you peaked your brush on the top left with black, it looks like cats laying there…so cool!
I've been binge-watching your videos all morning (it's afternoon now in Greece) and I love the way you work and the way you promote your work.. Thank you for sharing all that!!
awww thank you so much !! And hello Greece❤️
Thank you for your videos. I love how we get to “get into your head” through your narrative. I appreciate your explanations of the different media you use. Its fantastic how we can paint for years and still be learning as we go. I LOVE abstract art....and especially YOURS!❤️
So true Carol the learning process truly should never end when you are a creator. 😊😊😊
I am so jaw dropped by the size and stunning beauty of this piece. This takes a butt load of confidence to go this big, but there is no hint of self consciousness in this piece. I’m in awe.
I love real time over timelapse. It's better for learning for me anyway. You're such an inspiration. Not just your artwork but your willingness to share your expertise without fear of others copying, or pettiness, etc. A clear indicator that you are secure in yourself and your art. Thanks again!
Hi Denise, thanks so much. I truly believe that being an artist is about being unique and having your own style. It's important for new artist to understand the copyright rules & law and how it's there to protect artists. If people are serious about wanting to become a painter, copying another artist's work will only hinder their potential and artistry. 😊 😊 😊 That's how I see it. 😂
Lori, I just love your energy in all your videos! This one is especially a very delightful one to watch! Hope you're all settled in your beautiful home with your sister. I am sure a lot of us look forward to your videos when you're ready! Lots of creative love from Melbourne, Australia! :)
My god I adore your amazing technique ❤😊
Thank you so much Mary ❤️ 😀
So happy I stumbled onto video #3 this morning so I could go back and binge watch all 3.
Oh that's so great Ricki! Enjoy😊
Hi Lori - just wanted to tell you again how much I love your work, and seeing this piece installed (yes, I'm late seeing this video)! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques!
Ahhh thank you very much!! To see is all finally installed was fun even for me 🥰
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist BTW...just a reminder that in the video above you mentioned at some point you'd make a video about keeping the colors in the same family in a work of art... I would love to see what you have to say about that if/when you get a few minutes. :) Thanks!
Very informative, thank you for your generosity Lori
Thanks Paul 🥰
Love seeing creations come to life.
Thanks Leah😊😊
Thank you Lori for sharing these videos with your painting process! Love it!

Impressive! Love it!
Thanks again Paulina ❤️❤️❤️
WOW! Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
I’m so mesmerized with the drips lol
haha Drips are so much fun😊😊😊
Another great video to watch, and I love the tip of putting the medium with water in a water bottle to help with transparency and flow of paint. Will have to try this myself. Thanks again for sharing this huge commission and your process it's awesome :)
Glad it was helpful!
I was wating the whole week for this video. Thank you 🙂
I know I know I'm sorry lol
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist nothing to be sorry....I appreciated the video😍

I am so thrilled to learn that you are here in Toronto. Lucky to know this. I left you a comment recently about how much I appreciate you helping everyone promote their work through social media. This painting is wonderful
Thanks so much Gary. I am relocating in the next year though. Building myself an art studio just outside Ottawa.
Hi Lori, how nice of you to share your process , I am a self taught painter wannabe :-) I have leaned quite a bit by just watching your video . You are very inspiring , thank you much for sharing ... By the way I love your work and the way you work …
Oh that's so great Eduardo I'm really happy that you have learned a few things here. 😊😊😊
Your work is fantastic, as is your information💕
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
awesome!
Thank you so much 😊
Really enjoy your process Lori. As a novice painter, this is so interesting to watch.
I still love watching other artist paints. learning as an artist never ends.
Looking SO good! What an amazing project. It's going to look wonderful when installed at the condo. I hope you'll post a photo when it's installed!!!
That's the plan! and thank you Carolyn.😊😊
C'est nul à la portée de tous .Ce n'est pas de la peinture mais n'importe quoi .Est-ce que ça se VEND????
Hi Lori, I would like to hear you speak about what guides you before and during the painting process. What decisions you make before you start a painting and what your goal/motivation is for a painting: color combinations, shapes, creating a certain feeling? (Not commission work)
Ok Caren....good topic and not the easiest things for me to try and put into words, but I'm willing to give it a go. 😊
Going good!
The progress has gone smoothly so far. 😊
That’s so massive holy crap,I can’t wait to see it when it’s all done.....carry on dancing 🕺❤️🇨🇦
Thanks Sharon 😊😊😊
Alright... here we are again.. let's see what Lori's got goin on...... ok, it looks like it might be a diptych... what an ambitious piece!! Now we're talking... previously I had only seen the top panel.. and I shit on it pretty good.. Now I think I understand the piece a lot more...DAMN Lori well done... I'm really digging the composition... stellar...Glad you buffed out that magenta..I really wanna know what's banging through those headphones lol... Now this one has some BOLD moves... love seeing the speed... Fucking great... love this one so much more...RESPECT
Mind blowing work... but before knowing about your painting style, I always wanted to know what songs do you listen to 😁 can’t wait to know, as you always dance and paint.. I just loveeee it ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ur so inspiring
Thank you so much 😀 I listen to tons of different music from soca, reggae, 80 music , singer song writer....
Great video. Love this piece, saw it in the newspaper. So funny though, it wasn't until the end that the sound changed a bit. I was worried throughout it all, straining to hear you, checking all my volume controls, thinking damn, is it already I need to go get fitted for a hearing aid??? LOL
Oh that's strange that the volume is so low for you.
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist Oh, I thought it was a known problem, just a temporary new "gremlin" that popped up because of Yeti and it being 4:30am. I had watched the video first, THEN read your description for the video and saw you apologized for the sound. haha
Love it Lori!! I will never again bitch about painting large in my tiny live in home/studio lol
hahahaha that's funny Rita lol
You’re so cute and lots of energy!
Piece looks amazing! If/when you can, will you share details of where this is going? I live downtown Toronto and would love to see the piece installed.
Sure thing! I'm hoping to take a video of it on installation day too. 😊 and thanks so much 😊
Love to watch you work. And I am learning so much as I am lefthanded. It's a perspective I can relate to and learn from. Thank you so much. ✌💜🖌
You are so welcome!! YAY Lefties 😊
Hi Merry Christmas thx beautiful 🤩
Happy holidays!
Hey I love your videos and your work. Stunning! Also, you can get the bowl scraper on Amazon. Maybe they are low on stock because of COVID issues, I haven't checked, but usually they are available.
Thanks for the tip! glad you enjoyed the videos❤️
Just for context you should share what music you’re listening to... so everyone can dance with you!! 😊
Oh Gosh I know Brian but truly not easy to do....when I'm painting that has to be my only focus. So I can't remember all the songs that play while I'm painting. Also copyright reason means I can't play the music in the background either.
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist what song list do you listening? :)
@@fannycarlo9443 Maybe shes listening to kpop ;)
You are awesome! Cheers, Deb (NZ)
New Zealand!!!😊 Thank you
👋 Deb. A fellow Kiwi here. We seem to share a few artists I recognise your name from other posts. Isn’t Lori so inspiring and WOW the size of canvas sooo jealous.
Karen from Oxford NZ
@@karenmanson1782 Hi Karen. I love Lori's art - her process and generosity in sharing too .... Yep, the size of those canvases give me chills! I'm so looking forward to viewing the end result! Cheers, Deb T
I actually loved the painting as is before you added the blue then white. The colors were so appealing to me. But I like your work no matter.
Well I appreciate that thank you. This is a commissioned piece so I'm working from an image of an earlier painting I completed back on 2017. It's what the clients requested.
You are awesome and an inspiration:-) thank you. I have a question about how you use flow aid , can you share your tips please? Thank You 🙏🏻💖
Hi Gabrielle, I don't use the product flow aid. I use High Flow from golden paint when I want to thin my acrylic paints down instead of using a bunch of water.
I LOVE your videos and IG page! Learning so much and so inspired. Quick question - where do you find large (and yet affordable) canvases like that?
I had these canvases custom made for me. The 3 of them came with a price tag of $2000.
Красиво !
Would love to see a video on the final result and how the frames are joined. Are they separated by some distance? Or are they made to look like one huge painting?
You finally used your Liquidtex paintbrush
Nope....lol that's a stain brush from home depot😂
Dance is the action on the canvas
Hi Lori, this one is amazing! Can't wait for bn the close up and seeing all 3 together. I missed the part where you mentioned which way they will be mounted...all stacked on bn one another (that must be a tall lobby!) or side by bv side? Even 13 ft tall is impressive! Tthx!
It's a pretty crazy commissioned piece. They will be stacked on top of each other to make 18 feet high. I can't wait to see it all together to. lol
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist Thx! I can say is WOW! When are they scheduled for delivery?
love your paintings and watching you paint, just wondering what kind of pen you are using to make the marks at the end of your paintings
Ok, now i will be buying your workshop video
❤️❤️❤️
Hi Lori! It’s Sunday afternoon and I’m rewatching you paint your large commission in honor of your completion of the project!! Congratulations!!! 🎨🎊🥳🎉 It has been a sheer delight to watch you paint!! Thank you for sharing this journey with all of us!! You mentioned that you add a medium directly to all of the paints you’re mixing to keep the drying time open. Is that the same medium you mix with water in your spray bottle? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question Lori! 🤗🥰💖🎉🎊
So glad you enjoyed. And that pretty cool that you did that. I never posted the video of panel 3 my bad. No the medium that extends drying time is called retarder.
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist Please, please, please 🙏🏻 post the video of panel 3!! And, thank you for taking your time to answer my question. 🤗🥰💖
Hi Lori, absolutely love your work. What kind of stain brush is that you're using? I know you mentioned from Home Depot but did I miss which brush and size is that? Thank you
Love your style. I noticed you mentioned that you varnish with liquitex satin. Do you put down an isolation coat first? If so what do you use. Do you fond that the varnish is too shiny. I want to varnish my 17 painting but fear that they will be too shiny. I find matte to be too dull 😄 lol Decisions... decisions🤔
Hi Phyllis an isolation layer is only necessary if you are using something that is water soluble. What I use is Liquitex varnish with a satin finish. The middle sheen between mat and gloss.
Hi Lori Is this a diptych? Is it easy to find canvasses that size? What brand paint do you use? Btw, I love this artwork!
Thanks Cee. No this is one painting but because of the size, it has been painted on 3 panels. These were a special order from a small company local to Toronto. Thanks so much 😊
Looking good Lori! What ratio water/medium do you use?
That's truly a personal preference...So my suggest mix it until you get what you like
The cure for tennis elbow is some stretches before you start. I can suggest a couple. I suffered this too as a piano player.
yes please do!!!
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist Start with these stretches. ruclips.net/video/uFNhlBR-Ae0/видео.html
Forget the weight stuff. Just do the stretches. Hold them gently for 30 seconds each. The other one I do is lift your arm straight up in the air, then bend your elbow and touch your hand behind your head between your back wing blades. Hold and gently pull your bent elbow close to your head with your other arm . Hold this for 30 seconds. Again, do this gently, you don't want any of these to be painful or hurt. Do these 2 times a day. Once before you start painting, and once at the end of the day.
Beautiful painting, I am a new follower, I love doing large canvases also, was wondering what you charge for something this large?
haha haven't heard that term in a while. I'm on the other side of the border. The twins cities Soo Michigan and Soo Canada.
This is a private commissioned piece by a condo corporation so I'm not disclosing the price.
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist ok I understand
Hi Lori! what paints do you use and how do you get it to drip like that and make it thicker too?
Hi rose I talked about that at the end of video 😊
@@lorimirabelliabstractartist thankyou Lori and i moved your other video where you talk about the equipment your using which explained it perfectly. Thankyou.
i love watching you. sometimes I eel like you edo with different colors just when I think your done. are you changing colors for a reason. It doesnt seem that the layers always show through?
sometimes just a peek shows through and sometimes I need the under-layer to alter the top layer.
What did you say with mix the eater with to do the drips? Is it equal part?
An acrylic medium. I never measure anything lol it's why I cant bake.
Can you please let us know whicj acrylic medium?
A quick question if I may, when your painting is finished, do you use a certain type of varnish on that finished product so when you roll it before shipping it’s not going to do harm to the painting, I’m not sure if I am explaining myself very well. Hope you understand me
Hi Sharon, this one isn't being shipped. So I don't have to remove it off the frame. I use Liquitex satin varnish. It rolls fine without damaging the surface.
Me gusta mucho tu pintura te veo desde España si pudieras poner subtítulos en español sería de gran ayuda 😀🎨👏👏👏
Hey Lori! How did you land the deal selling the art to the condo? How did they find you? Or did you approach them?
A design company here in Toronto asked me to submit a proposal for the project. I believe I was one of 5 artist that submitted. I was the successful applicant.

😊
I know what you mean, its the same as being gifted a present and told not to open until tomorrow. LOL
😂😂😂
Do u sell your paintings how much do pay for large canvas
