      My hair is VERY curly, I'm the only one in my family. 2/3 of my sisters have pin-straight hair, but one of them has beautiful waves. Her mother used to treat her hair as if it were straight like the other two, and could never understand why the same processes weren't working. It wasnt until I shared some of my curly tips with no. 3 that her waves really took form and became so much more beautiful and manageable. Waves and curls - although very different in some ways - are so similar. It doesn't make sense to minimize anybody's problems 🙄 even my straight-haired sisters have things that they dislike about their textures

      I have a similar hair texture and a shag haircut and I love how much volume I get by just combing through it with a wide tooth comb. It doesn't get quite this poofy, but I get big volume. I smooth on a little argan oil if I feel like it's gone too far into frizz territory. Heatless volume is a win in my book, but the haircut is so important to avoiding triangle hair.

I also, always, brush it out before washing my hair because I find it easier to detangle, and it gets so poofy. I also heard this helps to distribute the oils from your scalp to the rest of your hair, which is why I do it because my hair is extremely dry.

    I have the same hair type and I gave up on my waves. I tried everything and realized that trying to make the waves look better was taking up so much of time. Especially when they weren’t going to last and pretty much looked bad most of the time. I grew comfortable knowing that my hair is an in-between type and that it’s not meant to look good on its own, but with minor styling I can have straight, wavy, or curly hair. I don’t use my straightener all the time but I can’t live without my hair dryer. It makes my hair look so much better without much effort. But yeah, sometimes it’s easier to not force our hair, even if that means not forcing it to be ‘natural’. There’s so much peace in that :)

    • @aoiharuko8237
      @aoiharuko8237 4 года назад +22

      Yea, my hair is something in between wavy and straight too. It's also harder to manage because where I live we have hard water which makes it a challenge to style. Usually when I try to style it my hair looks greasy and weighed down and the waves don't hold, probably from the mineral buildup. By day 3 its completely straight, and I just brush it out lol. I don't mind though, its just what my hair does, and I live with it. I have layers in my hair too which help with that dreaded "triangle head" when I go to brush it. Before I got the layers it was horrid though lol!

      I personally have hair that just does whatever it can be stick straight one wash and legit curly the next all i can do to make it look good is go with what it wants. I can usually tell when it’s air drying what it wants and go from there of it dries straight i add very little oil and brush it smooth if it is drying curly i add way more oil and scrunch.

    I think my hair must have a similar wave pattern to yours. My hair looks very close to yours before brushing and almost exactly like yours after brushing it. I thought it was interesting that you brought up the different individual hair thicknesses since I also have this and I haven't really heard many other wavies mention having some fine and some course hairs together. I feel so much better seeing someone with a hair type like mine! For the past few years I just couldn't tell if my hair was straight or wavy. I'd treat it like straight hair and suddenly I had waves and frizz, so I'd treat it as if it was wavy hair and it went back to being straight. I finally started the CGM about 7 months ago and I think that has definitely helped and it's also been so helpful seeing your videos along on this journey.

    Really, you can brush you dry hair! I brush my wavy hair on second or third day sometimes, and it gets much more poofy than yours. My hair looks wild with frizz when I brush it. After I brush it, I scrunch a bit of water into it or I mist it with water and then scrunch it. It looks great after I add the water and scrunch. Adding the water reactivates the products that are already in your hair. I don't always brush it out...it depends on how bad it looks...stringy or strange clumping. Dying your hair darker makes your hair so much BETTER LOOKING because it adds to your porous hair strands permanent colour molecules. (As long as the product doesn't have a stripping colour molecule agent to make your hair lighter such as blond dye). So you are usually safe with dark browns or potentially light brown dyes might not have a stripping agent either. Your hair is beautiful btw and I love the colour!! It's just FYI

    I have been doing the curly girl method for two years now. My unbrushed hair never looks as nice as yours, but if I brush out the curls on Day 2, it will reform the curls and on very good days, will look like your hair before you brushed it. Misting it with water or going out in the rain will also reform my curls. Some of them are full ringlets or “sausage” curls. My unbrushed curls are defined, but I don’t have enough of them to look good and they are too stringy. Try misting your hair after brushing it next time, and scrunch it and let it air dry. I bet your defined waves come back.

    Hair advice- brushing your hair from end upwards will soften the roots and make them grow faster. Also you can buy Aargon Oil that when u spray it on your hair it makes it go curly. I use it for mine I brush it root upwards and then spray it and shakeout hair or scrunch it up and you have your same curly hair as before. Sleep with your hair in a plait is it is easier to brush in the morning. I also have really curly hair

    I’ve been watching your videos since you started the Curly Girl Method and I can’t even express how healthy and beautiful your hair looks now!! I’m a wavy girl too (2b-2c) and I also follow CGM. I know the struggle of transitioning ALL TOO WELL and it can get so frustrating to feel like you’re not going anywhere with your hair. But I just wanted to say that your hair is so shiny and perfectly wavy!! Please keep going with CGM!! I can’t wait to see the rest of your hair journey.💕💕💕

    I have the exact same story as you do and it's refreshing to see that someone else understands that no matter how many times I deep condition it's not going to fix my hair, and brushing my hair is NEVER the answer!!

    Isabella please use coconut hair oil or any hair oil that suits you before shampooing your hair everytime. I had this type of hair texture from dying it 🙂 but now my hair looks straight, less poofy and is much moreee managable. Most importantly its not dry anymore.

    The head of puffy hair Isabella shows at the end it's the kind of puffy head I had for most of my teenage years. My hair was longer though, so the puffiness was a little lessened by the sheer weight of my hair. I chopped all off at 20, in 1996, choosing one of those Jean Luis David 1990s shaggy hairstyles. It took me forever to have long hair again because those haircuts - especially with not properly treated wavy hair - grow out as... crazy artichokes -_- Never ever I will brush my hair dry

    You definitely have wavy hair, cause my hair does the exact same thing when I brush it except it's worse cause mine is curlier

    The trick with brushing wavy hair is after you brush it, use a mister and dampen it and then scrunch it.
    Your waves will reclump and look really nice. I brush my 2b/2c hair sometimes and it gets pretty wild looking. I just add a bit of water and scrunch, let it dry and you have nice clumped waves. I hope that you try it.
