To be fair, they had already just dough an all-out battle against Whitebeard. Fighting two Yonkou in a row with Blackbeard also present would not be an optimal situation especially when you consider the fact they already completed their goal of killing Ace, managed to also kill Whitebeard, and had the direct option of ending the fighting without any further effort. Sengoku and Garp would be more than enough to defeat Shanks, and they still had Aokiji and Kizaru to fight the rest if Shanks' crew. If the White beard and Blackbward pirates weren't there, the marines could've probably defeated Shanks' crew, but I still doubt they would've taken the risk when they didn't have to. With them there, Sengoku made the only possible choice to prevent the entire island of Marineford form being destroyed.
John Ciulla Uh dude. The Red Haired Pirates look tiny compared to the fleet of soldiers and ships the other Emperors command, and it looks like they only have one to no Devil Fruit users. Yet BIG MOM and WHITEBEARD themselves acknowledge the power of Shanks and his crew, and he's known as one of the Four Emperors. The Four Emperors are pirates who are so powerful and have so much influence in the New World, that not even the World Government would enter their territory or meddle in their affairs. The Red Haired Pirates must have God tier Haki for the World Government and the other Emperors to acknowledge them as an established pirate empire.
John Ciulla Also the Whitebeard and Blackbeard Pirates being there were irrelevant. The Whitebeard Pirates' goal was to stall Akainu from getting to Luffy, not fight the Marines. Especially because they were demoralized and tired. And only Sengoku was fighting the Blackbeard Pirates, while the Admirals were being dumbasses worrying about a fucking rookie. While they had the psychopathic Teach causing earthquakes left and right.

ok people once again when you talk about that scene when shanks saved luffy that was in a flash back which is more than 10 years ago, now to be exact, 12 years ago, if you countdown the years from the current story line, it does not take a year to eat a devil fruit so we just don't know right now. he cud have eaten a devil fruit in that time. Although from the way he talked to luffy about eating the gum-gum fruit he probably doesn't want to lose his ability to swim, so to be honest your probably right.

To be fair, the only Shibukai that can stand up to a Yonko is Dracule Mihawk.
Vincent Rico Mercado Weevil maybe? He pretty much slapped around all the remnant commanders of the Whitebeard pirates, except Marco. Granted Marco is the strongest commander and we aren’t really sure who would win. But, I do believe even Kizaru made a comment about Weevil’s strength.
Also Hawkeye can fight Shanks evenly in terms of sword fighting, however does this mean he’d be able to fight say Big Mom who doesn’t use a sword? I actually don’t know I assume he would be able to fight Big Mom, but there is the possibility he can’t.
Also in the Z movie apparently one of the old Shichibukai cut off an admiral’s (Z’s) arm, so presumably whoever that was would’ve been able to fight a Yonkou.

Valto 16 were the words of Kizaru. However, because some of those had to be allied captains not just the fleet commanders because there isn’t 16 of them left after Ace and Thatch.

"I wagered it..... on the new age." One of my favourite lines in this show. Especially when Whitebeard remembers it when he recognizes Luffy's hat when he appears during Marineford, and then truly understands what Shanks meant.
Mihawk is the only Warlord who can stand up to a Yonko and hold his own in single combat.
I feel like Mihawk hasn't risen to a Yonko simply because he's a loner. He doesn't seem to have a crew from what we've seen so far. And as we know, Yonko have extensvie information networks and a large milatary force to back them up.

Darth Vader I mean I am guilty of having that lack of reason sometimes with One Piece. Like I do think that Zoro should be the one to beat Kaido. Something to do with Chinese or Japanese Mythology with the only thing being able to beat a Dragon or have the same level of power is a tiger. Kaido being a Dragon and Zoro being a Tiger, but at least that has some basis to it as Zoro hasn't even revealed his full power yet.

I see Shanks as the true successor of Roger of the Yonko. He's got the not so serious personality, small but high quality crew, and godly self strength (haki) over devil fruit hacks. Heck, with the straw hat, Roger even sort of choose him as his successor.
He's the embodiment of Roger Luffy must surpass before reaching one piece.
What if his Conqueror's Haki is so strong that he is able to somehow briefly "stun" time, just like how Katakuri's Observation Haki can see into the future?
Or, what if conquerer's haki has alternative abilities based on the character/will of said character, much like how in naruto the mangekyou was diversified.

Anyone that thinks that the Yonko and the Warlords are even remotely comparable, remember during the war of the Best, not only were the 7 warlords there, but a huge portion of the marines forces, including the Three Admirals and the Grand Fleet Admiral Sengoku, all against just One Yonko, Whitebeard. And the instant a Second Yonko showed up Sengoku was like "Alright even I don't get paid enough for this bullshit."

Actually most theories say that Conqueror's Haki requires the person to actually have authority and power to develop. This theories say that marines can't, or very rarely will, develop that haki and therefore Luffy would be more submissive and not really Luffy.
Nyghtking he'd probably go all the way up to admiral and notice the admirals/marines in general are Dicks and leave like Kuzan, but whould become a Pirate as soon as he knows good people like his brother Ace are pirates.

I believe luffy would leave the marines after marineford (marines trying to execute ace and luffy not being able to watch them. he would try to help ace and fail similar to the real story).

@@elijah8987 just because he's the best swordsman doesn't mean he's the strongest in the world, even if the person hes fighting is using a sword, because if he won against every one who uses a sword, shanks would lose, but they were equal, takes more than swordsmanship to win a fight (I'm not saying shanks right now is stronger, 1 arm thing, not sure how much it affects him)

This video is 3 years old and he's talking about things that haven't happened yet for me. I started binging this show since last year. I'm around episode 430+... The war of the best just finished. I'm excited to see what comes of shanks. I was always upset that we never saw much of him. Now that I know he is meant to be one of the best if not the best pirates in the world, makes it much more exciting for the day we see his full story.

There's multiple reasons, one of which is that he's biased towards OP since he's a fanboy

Another is that he doesn't want to be a 'fish in the sea' manga reviewer of One Piece (knowing that there's dozens of them already), which is why he decides to review manga which not TOO many people review (e.g. MHA)
Another is that his fanbase isn't huge for OP
I doubt Shanks has a DF since he was able to save Luffy from the Seaking in the water.
& Yeah he could have got it in the 10 years after, BUT that would make it feel like Shanks was strong before he got the DF, but wasn't able to become a Yonko until after he got it. Taking away from his Badassness
He would be too strong if he had a DF, since he's already a haki master.

The idea that Shanks let the Seaking eat his arm is silly. Oda simply hadnt thought of the concept of Haki, the Yonko or Shanks future role of the story. It was clearly a mistake and a plothole the can be forgiven since It's the first chapter, the thing about betting it on the new generation is a poor ret-con.

I dont think Oda came up with Haki at such an early point either, it was just a bad-ass anime stare like the ones you can find in other anime, the Seaking didn't even faint and he was weak enough to be beaten by Luffy after all so i think that Shanks using Haki on the Seaking is also part of the ret-con . You probably heard that Oda, at first, planned One Piece to last around 5 years but since it was massively popular at around the Arlong arc he began to plan the bigger picture and a lot of world building and history for the world. I dont think that Shanks was going to have a bigger role when Oda introduced him in chapter 1, he only came up with it later on when he wanted to expand the world.
That didn´t have to be Haki Zorro intimidated enemies alot pre timeskip through death glares. Other manga call it killing intent etc. it was a retcon and Oda has come out and said that he doesn´t care much for continuity as long as his story is entertaining much like Toriyama, who wrote a shitton of plotholes into Dragon Ball because he didn´t care either.

That's just the Marines. I doubt shanks and whitebeard's crew could stand up to the entire forces of the WG. You gotta remember that the admirals are still fresh and so are the warlords along with Garp and the other hightier vice admirals like Tsuru. Mariejois is just near marineford while WB's crew are already powerless with WB and Ace being dead, jozu an outright a goner and Marco and Vista being futile compared to a beaten up akainu. Shanks' crew could probably hold their stand against the Marines but with CP0 and Kong coming into play would change the war entirely. Though that could probably trigger Dragon to summon his crew or Big Mom to meddle.

1. the warlords has their own agenda so they are not fighting that war, except maybe for kuma but still...
2. aside from whitebeards armada of pirates, there's shanks crew, then Blackbeard is on the field as well and his fellow monsters and then the supernovas are like a hundred KM from marineford so if the chance to obliterate the marines shows itself they can fight as well.
Anyway my point is Sengoku calling off the war is through sheer goodwill to save the lives of his men, and that my friend is the wisest choice for the that sengoku made for the marines.

CP0 is formidable for the revolutionaries to try to escape from and were strong enough to clash with a post-time skip BB pirates. Shanks pales compared to the Sheer power of The WG. One must remember the balance of power. WG+warlords=4 yonkos. And by that logic, WG+warlords>Shanks+impaired and weakened WB pirates.

shanks is easily one of my favorite characters. In addition to being one of the most powerful and badass pirates in the series he is also humble, laid back and cool about everything his crew is all about having a good time.
I hope to God that Shanks doesn't have a Devil Fruit. If anything, I am a firm believer in there being more forms of Haki than we are currently aware of. Like, if it is possible for the 3 forms of Haki *(Conqueror's, Armament, and Observation)* to have subclasses of sorts, or if it is possible to unlock new forms of Haki altogether. As an Awakening of sorts, just like the Devil Fruits. I hope that Oda intends to delve deeper into that.

Brendon Don It's more Dragon is leading the Revolutionaries, who are actively fighting against the government, while the pirates are really just doing their own thing. Being the most wanted person doesn't necessarily mean you're the strongest, just that you've become the biggest threat.
