Thx for this video Nigel! I agree that listening is really important. I find it is my way of getting new ideas. In listening I also try to find out what it is that makes f.i. a solo so good, how is it built up, how does it progress, how does it bring tension and release, etc. So listening to me really becomes “dissecting” the music to learn and get new creative ideas for myself
kind of off topic here. But I was listening to one of your lessons about mouthpieces, a couple months past. And I got a Slant Sig 2 (Theo Wayne), that you were praising on. And I think it is just all that. A few years past I went and spent a couple thousand dollars on a new saxophone, thinking it would sound fuller and feel better. And it did, very little. But a better mouthpiece for not much money was really what I was looking for. thx Nigel. I never would have went there. But I'm so glad I did.
Brilliant to hear that. I love the Slant Sig too. And I agree that so long as your saxophone is in good working order, the best upgrade you can do is your mouthpiece.
Great things to remember. I do this a lot. Good to see that the masters advise it :). Thanks Nigel!
Great to hear it was helpful!

Great points here Timo. I think the key is “how” we listen.
Yes Nigel, it is a good reminder thank you.
Thanks Nigel , I echo Dave's thoughts, need to go through the improvise mini course again. Listening music and keep it simple. Thank you Nigel
That Improvising Mini Course inside Sax School is a great starting point Vinny.
